1Elevated alanine aminotransferase activity is not associated with dyslipidemias,but related to insulin resistance and higher disease grades in non-diabetic non-alcoholic fatty liver disease显示文摘Objective:To explore demographic and metabolic factors associated with increased alanine aminotransferase(ALT)activity in non-diabetic non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)patients.Methods:Overall 372 patients who consecutively attended to Gastroenterology Clinic of Baqiyatallah University of Medical Sciences,Tehran,Iran awere diagnosed as NAFLD entered into analysis.Exclusion criteria were having diabetes mellitus and fasting blood glucose over126 mg/dL,active hepatitis B virus infection,having hepatitis C virus positive serology,and to be under corticosteroid therapy.ALT levels were considered pathologically high when it was over30 IU/L for men and over 19 IU/L for women.Results:Bivariate analyses using t test and chisquare test showed that patients with pathologically augmented ALT levels had significantly higher NAFLD grades in their ultrasonographic evaluations(P=0.003).Moreover,these patients represented significantly higher homeostatic model assessment levels(P=0.003),levels of serum insulin(P=0.002),fasting blood glucose(P<0.001),and uric acid(P=0.02).The prevalence of insulin resistance was also higher in patients with increased serum ALT concentrations.Multifactorial logistic regression models showed that ultrasonographic grading of NAFLD(P=0.027)and insulin resistance(P=0.013)were the only variables significantly associated with abnormal ALT levels.Conclusions:This study shows that the associations of increased ALT serum levels in NAFLD patients are different from what are supposed before.By excluding diabetic patients from our population,we find that increased ALT levels are not associated with dyslipidemias but are independently associated with insulin resistance and NAFLD grading on ultrasonographic evaluations.Further studies are needed to confirm our results.Mohammad Ebrahim Ghamar-Chehreh Mohsen Amini Hossein Khedmat Seyed Moayed Alavian Fatemeh Daraei Reza Mohtashami Reza Hadi Bent-Al-Hoda Beyram Saeed Taheri 2012Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012,2,9:5

6Modified criterion for prediction of tunnel deformation in non-squeezing ground conditions显示文摘The strength factor-based criterion for tunnel deformation prediction proposed by Hoek in 2000 is reckoned to be the most practical criterion among the tunnel deformation criteria since 1980s. In view of the fact that Hoek's criterion was obtained based on case studies under squeezing ground conditions, it has a limited range of applications, applicable mainly in squeezing tunnels. In this work, this criterion was modified by taking into consideration the conditions of eight unstable stations in three non-squeezing tunnels in Iran to amplify its application range. Relative displacements and strength factor(defined as a strength-to-stress ratio) were obtained in unstable stations first. Then, the parametric values were plotted on a Cartesian coordinate's plane. By using the optimal regression line passing through all points, a criterion for prediction of tunnel deformation was proposed finally. A comparison made between the measured values and the ones predicted by the new criterion shows that the variance accounted for was 77% and the root mean square error was 2%, an acceptable accuracy and a small error implying the effectiveness of the new criterion in tunnel deformation prediction. In addition, the results show that the strength factor of 0.38 can be used to determine the boundary between squeezing and non-squeezing conditions; the behavior and type of failure of the tunnel would be predictable by use of the strength factor.Ako Daraei Shokrollah Zare 2019Journal of Modern Transportation2019,27,1:1

15Prediction of overbreak depth in Ghalaje road tunnel using strength factor显示文摘It is well known that the overbreak caused by the blasting damage during tunnel excavation increases costs associated with filling the collapsed area with shotcrete and results in filing of a claim by the contractor. This paper outlines a new approach for prediction the overbreak depth during tunnel construction. Hence, firstly excavation damage zone(EDZ) are determined by average specific charge in each zone. Numerical modelling is used to simulate the EDZ around tunnel boundary and the overbreak depth are calculated by the rock strength factor. The predicted overbreak depth compared with observed field data from a case study. The results show that there exists an approximately up to 40% difference between the prediction and the observed volume of overbreak depth. Therefore, the method can be well used to predict the overbreak depth to estimate more precision of shotcrete and concrete volumes in tunnelling cost during design phase.Ako Daraei Shokrollah Zare 2018International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2018,28,4:1

18Biotoxicity evaluation of zinc oxide nanoparticles on bacterial performance of activated sludge at COD,nitrogen,and phosphorus reduction显示文摘The unique properties and growing usage of zinc oxide nanoparticles increase their release in municipal wastewater treatment plants.Therefore,these nanoparticles,by interacting with microorganisms,can fail the suitable functioning of biological systems in treatment plants.For this reason,research into the toxicity of ZnO is urgent.In the present study,the toxicity mechanism of ZnO-NPs towards microbial communities central to granular activated sludge(GAS)performance was assessed over 120-day exposure.The results demonstrate that the biotoxicity of ZnO-NPs is dependent upon its dosage,exposure time,and the extent of reactive oxygen species(ROS)production.Furthermore,GAS performance and the extracellular polymeric substances(EPS)content were significantly reduced at 50 mg/L ZnO-NPs.This exposure led to decreases in the activity of ammonia monooxygenase(25.2%)and nitrate reductase(11.9%)activity.The Field emission scanning electron microscopy images confirmed that ZnO-NPs were able to disrupt the cell membrane integrity and lead to cell/bacterial death via intracellular ROS generation which was confirmed by the Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy analysis.After exposure to the NPs,the bacterial community composition shifted to one dominated by Gram-positive bacteria.The results of this study could help to develop environmental standards and regulations for NPs applications and emissions.Hasti Daraei Kimia Toolabian Ian Thompson Guanglei Qiu 2022Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2022,16,2:0
