1Rates of litter decomposition in terrestrial ecosystems:global patterns and controlling factors显示文摘Aims We aim to construct a comprehensive global database of litter decomposition rate(k value)estimated by surface floor litterbags,and investigate the direct and indirect effects of impact factors such as geographic factors(latitude and altitude),climatic factors(mean annual tempePlrature,MAT;mean annual precipitation,MAP)and litter quality factors(the contents of N,P,K,Ca,Mg and C:N ratio,lignin:N ratio)on litter decomposition.Methods We compiled a large data set of litter decomposition rates(k values)from 110 research sites and conducted simple,multiple regression and path analyses to explore the relationship between the k values and impact factors at the global scale.Important findings The k values tended to decrease with latitude(LAT)and lignin content(LIGN)of litter but increased with temperature,precipitation and nutrient concentrations at the large spatial scale.Single factor such as climate,litter quality and geographic variable could not explain litter decomposition rates well.However,the combination of total nutrient(TN)elements and C:N accounted for 70.2%of the variation in the litter decomposition rates.The combination of LAT,MAT,C:N and TN accounted for 87.54%of the variation in the litter decomposition rates.These results indicate that litter quality is the most important direct regulator of litter decomposition at the global scale.This data synthesis revealed significant relationships between litter decomposition rates and the combination of climatic factor(MAT)and litter quality(C:N,TN).The global-scale empirical relationships developed here are useful for a better understanding and modeling of the effects of litter quality and climatic factors on litter decomposition rates.Deqiang Zhang Dafeng Hui Yiqi Luo Guoyi Zhou 2008Journal of Plant Ecology2008,1,2:99
2Soil temperature and moisture sensitivities of soil CO_2 efflux before and after tillage in a wheat field of Loess Plateau,China显示文摘As a conventional farming practice,tillage has lasted for thousands of years in Loess Plateau,China.Although recent studies show that tillage is a prominent culprit to soil carbon loss in croplands,few studies have investigated the influences of tillage on the responses of soil CO2 efflux(SCE) to soil temperature and moisture.Using a multi-channel automated CO2 efflux chamber system,we measured SCE in situ continuously before and after the conventional tillage in a rain fed wheat field of Loess Plateau,China.The changes in soil temperature and moisture sensitivities of SCE,denoted by the Q10 value and linear regression slope respectively,were compared in the same range of soil temperature and moisture before and after the tillage.The results showed that,after the tillage,SCE increased by 1.2-2.2 times;the soil temperature sensitivity increased by 36.1%-37.5%;and the soil moisture sensitivity increased by 140%-166%.Thus,the tillage-induced increase in SCE might partially be attributed to the increases in temperature and moisture sensitivity of SCE.Hongxing Zhang Xiaoke Wang Zongwei Feng Junzhu Pang Fei Lu Zhiyun Ouyang Hua Zheng Wenzhao Liu Dafeng Hui 2011Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,1:7

4Estrogen inhibits lipid peroxidation after hypoxic-ischemic brain damage in neonatal rats显示文摘Sprague-Dawley neonatal rats within 7 days after birth were used in this study. The left common carotid artery was occluded and rats were housed in an 8% O2 environment for 2 hours to establish a hypoxic-ischemic brain damage model. 17β-estradiol (1 × 10-5 M) was injected into the rat abdominal cavity after the model was successfully established. The left hemisphere was obtained at 12, 24, 48, 72 hours after operation. Results showed that malondialdehyde content in the left brain of neonatal rats gradually increased as modeling time prolonged, while malondialdehyde content of 17β-estrodial-treated rats significantly declined by 24 hours, reached lowest levels at 48 hours, and then peaked at 72 hours after injury. Nicotinamide-adenine dinucleotide phosphate histochemical staining showed the nitric oxide synthase-positive cells and fibers dyed blue/violet and were mainly distributed in the cortex, hippocampus and medial septal nuclei. The number of nitric oxide synthase-positive cells peaked at 48 hours and significantly decreased after 17β-estrodial treatment. 17Quantifying the short-term dynamics of soil organic carbon decomposition using a power function model显示文摘Introduction:Soil heterotrophic respiration(Rh,an indicator of soil organic carbon decomposition)is an important carbon efflux of terrestrial ecosystems.However,the dynamics of soil Rh and its empirical relations with climatic factors have not been well understood.Methods:We incubated soils of three subtropical forests at five temperatures(10,17,24,31,and 38°C)and five moistures(20,40,60,80,and 100%water holding capacity(WHC))over 90 days.Rh was measured throughout the course of the incubation.Three types of models(log-linear,exponential,and power model)were fitted to the measurements and evaluated based on the coefficient of determination(r2)and Akaike Information Criterion(AIC)of the model.Further regression analysis was used to derive the empirical relations between model parameters and the two climatic factors.Results:Among the three models,the power function model(Rh=R1 t−k)performed the best in fitting the descending trend of soil Rh with incubation time(r2>0.69 for 26 of 30 models).Both R1 and k generally increased linearly with soil temperature but varied quadratically with soil moisture in the three forest soils.Conclusions:This study demonstrated that the power function model was much more accurate than the exponential decay model in describing the decomposition dynamics of soil organic carbon(SOC)in mineral soils of subtropical forests.The empirical relations and parameter values derived from this incubation study may be incorporated into process-based ecosystem models to simulate Rh responses to climate changes.Weiping Zhou Jinhong He Dafeng Hui Weijun Shen 2017Ecological Processes2017,6,1:0
18Plant carbon substrate supply regulated soil nitrogen dynamics in a tallgrass prairie in the Great Plains, USA: results of a clipping and shading experiment显示文摘Land use management affects plant carbon(C)supply and soil environments and hence alters soil nitrogen(N)dynamics,with consequent feedbacks to terrestrial ecosystem productivity.The objective of this study was to better identify mechanisms by which land-use management(clipping and shading)regulates soil N in a tallgrass prairie,OK,USA.Methods We conducted 1-year clipping and shading experiment to investigate the effects of changes in land-use management(soil microclimates,plant C substrate supply and microbial activity)on soil inorganic N(NH_(4)^(+)-N and NO_(3)^(-)-N),net N mineralization and nitrification in a tallgrass prairie.Important Findings Land-use management through clipping and/or shading significantly increased annual mean inorganic N,possibly due to lowered plant N uptake and decreased microbial N immobilization into biomass growth.Shading significantly increased annual mean mineralization rates(P<0.05).Clipping slightly decreased annual mean N nitrification rates whereas shading significantly increased annual mean N nitrification rates.Soil microclimate significantly explained 36%of the variation in NO_(3)^(-)-N concentrations(P=0.004).However,soil respiration,a predictor of plant C substrate supply and microbial activity,was negatively correlated with NH_(4)^(+)-N concentrations(P=0.0009),net N mineralization(P=0.0037)and nitrification rates(P=0.0028)across treatments.Our results suggest that change in C substrate supply andmicrobial activity under clipping and/or shading is a critical control on NH_(4)^(+)-N,net N mineralization and nitrification rates,whereas clipping and shading-induced soil microclimate change can be important for NO_(3)^(-)-N variation in the tallgrass prairie.Xiaoli Cheng Yiqi Luo Bo Su Shiqiang Wan Dafeng Hui Quanfa Zhang 2011Journal of Plant Ecology2011,4,4:0
19Al-induced proteomics changes in tomato plants over-expressing a glyoxalase I gene显示文摘Glyoxalase I(Gly I)is the first enzyme in the glutathionine-dependent glyoxalase pathway for detoxification of methylglyoxal(MG)under stress conditions.Transgenic tomato‘Money Maker’plants overexpressing tomato SlGlyI gene(tomato unigene accession SGN-U582631/Solyc09g082120.3.1)were generated and homozygous lines were obtained after four generations of self-pollination.In this study,SlGlyI-overepxressing line(GlyI),wild type(WT,negative control)and plants transformed with empty vector(ECtr,positive control),were subjected to Al-treatment by growing in Magnavaca’s nutrient solution(pH 4.5)supplemented with 20μM Al3+ion activity.After 30 days of treatments,the fresh and dry weight of shoots and roots of plants from Al-treated conditions decreased significantly compared to the non-treated conditions for all the three lines.When compared across the three lines,root fresh and dry weight of GlyI was significant higher than WT and ECtr,whereas there was no difference in shoot tissues.The basal 5mm root-tips of GlyI plants expressed a significantly higher level of glyoxalase activity under both non-Al-treated and Al-treated conditions compared to the two control lines.Under Al-treated condition,there was a significant increase in MG content in ECtr and WT lines,but not in GlyI line.Quantitative proteomics analysis using tandem mass tags mass spectrometry identified 4080 quantifiable proteins and 201 Al-induced differentially expressed proteins(DEPs)in roottip tissues from GlyI,and 4273 proteins and 230 DEPs from ECtr.The Al-down-regulated DEPs were classified into molecular pathways of gene transcription,RNA splicing and protein biosynthesis in both GlyI and ECtr lines.The Alinduced DEPs in GlyI associated with tolerance to Al3+and MG toxicity are involved in callose degradation,cell wall components(xylan acetylation and pectin degradation),oxidative stress(antioxidants)and turnover of Al-damaged epidermal cells,repair of damaged DNA,epigenetics,gene transcription,and protein translation.A protein–protein association network was constructed to aid the selection of proteins in the same pathway but differentially regulated in GlyI or ECtr lines.Proteomics data are available via ProteomeXchange with identifiers PXD009456 under project title‘25Dec2017_Suping_XSexp2_ITAG3.2’for SlGlyI-overexpressing tomato plants and PXD009848 under project title‘25Dec2017_Suping_XSexp3_ITAG3.2’for positive control ECtr line transformed with empty vector.Xudong Sun Hui Li Santosh Thapa Sasikiran Reddy Sangireddy Xiaobo Pei Wei Liu Yuping Jiang Shaolan Yang Dafeng Hui Sarabjit Bhatti Suping Zhou Yong Yang Tara Fish Theodore W.Thannhauser 2020Horticulture Research2020,7,1:0
