2Sustainable oil-in-water analysis using a supercritical fluid carbon dioxide extraction system directly interfaced with infrared spectroscopy显示文摘A direct aqueous supercritical fluid extraction(SFE) system using carbon dioxide provides a sustainable means by which a vast range of industries may continue to depend on well established infrared(IR) techniques to determine oil-in-water.The SFE-IR method provides an environmentally friendly substitute for current national standard IR reference methods for measuring oil-in-water that rely on using increasingly restricted ozone depleting solvents whose manufacture is being phased out in accordance with international law.The SFE-IR analysis of a 500 mL water sample can be accomplished in 15 min.A rapid on-line SFE-IR calibration method has been implemented. With this calibration method,SFE-IR accuracy for determining diesel oil in 500 mL spiked water samples using single wave number measurement was 86.0%-98.8% with precision(RSD) ranging from 2.5%-7.0%.Using a general purpose calculation which involves measuring infrared absorbance values at three different wave numbers,SFE-IR method accuracy for determining diesel oil in 500 mL spiked water samples was 83.7%-92.2% with RSD 1.0%-9.3%.Data is presented that indicates current long established national standard IR reference methods involving three wave number calculations should be reviewed since, without careful consideration, the inclusion of calculated aromatic hydrocarbon species contributions to final oil-in-water concentration values may provide less accurate results.Edward D.Ramsey 2010Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,9:1
3Quantitative characterization of polyacrylamide–shale interaction under various saline conditions显示文摘Interaction of polymer-containing injected fluids with shale is a widely studied phenomenon, but much is still unknown about the interaction of charged polyacrylamides such as anionic and cationic polyacrylamides with shale. The nature of interaction of charged polyacrylamides with shale is not well understood, especially from the perspective of assessing the potential for polyacrylamides to cause formation damage. Zeta potential and rheological measurements were made for Chattanooga and Pride Mountain shales suspended in polyacrylamide solutions with and without inorganic salts and tetramethyl ammonium chloride(TMAC). The change in zeta potential and viscosity with time was recorded. The magnitude of decrease in the absolute value of zeta potential with time is indicative of adsorption of polymer on the surface of shale and serves as a measure of the extent of polymer interaction with shale. The salts that were used in this study are potassium chloride(KCl), sodium chloride(Na Cl). This study quantified the interaction of anionic and cationic polyacrylamide with different North American shales. From the experimental results, it was determined that the polyacrylamides can interact strongly with shale, particularly the cationic polyacrylamide. The objective of this study was to determine the extent of interaction of anionic and cationic polyacrylamide with each shale sample in the presence of additives such as salts.Samyukta Koteeswaran Jack C.Pashin Josh D.Ramsey Peter E.Clark 2017Petroleum Science2017,14,3:0
4Shock standards Cu, Ag, Ir, and Pt in a wide pressure range显示文摘Although they are polymorphic(multiphase)materials, both copper and silver are reliable Hugoniot standards, and thus it is necessary to establish an accurate analytic model of their principal Hugoniots. Here we present analytic forms of their principal Hugoniots,as well as those of iridium and platinum, two“pusher”standards for shock-ramp experiments, over a wide range of pressures. They are based on our new analytic model of the principal Hugoniot[Burakovsky et al.,J.Appl.Phys.132,215109(2022)].Comparison of the four Hugoniots with experimental and independent theoretical data(such data exist to very high pressures for both copper and silver)demonstrates excellent agreement.Hence, the new model for copper and silver can be considered as providing the corresponding Hugoniot standards over a wide pressure range. We also suggest an approach for calculating the Grüneisen parameter along the Hugoniot and apply it to copper as a prototype, and our results appear to be in good agreement with the available data.Leonid Burakovsky Dean L.Preston Scott D.Ramsey Charles E.Starrett Roy S.Baty 2023Matter and Radiation at Extremes2023,8,4:0
