1Identification of Lagrangian coherent structures in the turbulent boundary layer显示文摘Using Finite-Time Lyapunov Exponents (FTLE) method, Lagrangian coherent structures (LCSs) in a fully developed flat-plate turbulent boundary layer are successfully identified from a two-dimensional (2D) velocity field obtained by time-resolved 2D PIV measurement. The typical LCSs in the turbulent boundary layer are hairpin-like structures, which are characterized as legs of quasi-streamwise vor- tices extending deep into the near wall region with an inclination angle θ to the wall, and heads of the transverse vortex tube located in the outer region. Statistical analysis on the characteristic shape of typical LCS reveals that the probability density distribution of θ accords well with t-distribution in the near wall region, but presents a bimodal distribution with two peaks in the outer region, corresponding to the hairpin head and the hairpin neck, respectively. Spatial correlation analysis of FTLE field is im- plemented to get the ensemble-averaged inclination angle θ R of typical LCS. θ R first increases and then decreases along the wall-normal direction, similar to that of the mean value of θ. Moreover, the most probable value of θ saturates at y+=100 with the maximum value of about 24°, suggesting that the most likely position where hairpins transit from the neck to the head is located around y+=100. The ensem- ble-averaged convection velocity Uc of typical LCS is finally calculated from temporal-spatial correla- tion analysis of FTLE field. 4Evaluating the accuracy performance of Lucas-Kanade algorithm in the circumstance of PIV application显示文摘Lucas-Kanade(LK) algorithm, usually used in optical flow filed, has recently received increasing attention from PIV community due to its advanced calculation efficiency by GPU acceleration. Although applications of this algorithm are continuously emerging,a systematic performance evaluation is still lacking. This forms the primary aim of the present work. Three warping schemes in the family of LK algorithm: forward/inverse/symmetric warping, are evaluated in a prototype flow of a hierarchy of multiple two-dimensional vortices. Second-order Newton descent is also considered here. The accuracy & efficiency of all these LK variants are investigated under a large domain of various influential parameters. It is found that the constant displacement constraint, which is a necessary building block for GPU acceleration, is the most critical issue in affecting LK algorithm's accuracy, which can be somehow ameliorated by using second-order Newton descent. 6Accurate measurement of wall skin friction by single-pixel ensemble correlation显示文摘The present work deals with accurately estimating wall-skin friction from near-wall mean velocity by means of PIV measurement.The estimation accuracy relies on the spatial resolution and the precision of the resolved velocity profile inside the viscous sublayer,which is a big challenge for conventional window-based correlation method(K?hler C J,et al.Exp Fluids,2012,52:1641–1656).With the help of single-pixel ensemble correlation,the ensemble-averaged velocity vector can be resolved at significant spatial resolution,thus improving the measurement accuracy.To demonstrate the feasibility of this single-pixel ensemble correlation method,we first study the velocity estimation precision in a case of steady near-wall flow.Synthetic particle images are used to investigate the effect of different image parameters.It is found that the velocity RMS-uncertainty level of the single-pixel ensemble correlation method can be equivalent to the conventional window correlation method once the effective particle number used for the ensemble correlation is large enough.Furthermore,a canonical turbulent boundary layer is synthetically simulated based on velocity statistics resolved by previous Direct Numerical Simulation(DNS)work(Schlatter P,et al.J Fluid Mech,2010,659:116–126).The relative error of wall skin friction coefficient is shown to be one-order smaller than that of the window correlation method.And the optimization strategy to further minimize the measurement uncertainty is discussed in the last part.SHEN JunQi PAN Chong WANG JinJun 2014Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2014,57,7:8
7Single atom accelerates ammonia photosynthesis显示文摘Atomically dispersed metal has gained much attention because of the new opportunities they offer in catalysis. However, it is still crucial to understand the mechanism of single-atom catalysis at molecular level for expanding them to other more difficult catalytic reactions, such as ammonia synthesis from nitrogen. In fact, developing ammonia synthesis under ambient conditions to overcome the high energy consumption in well-established Haber-Bosch process has fascinated scientists for many years.Herein, we demonstrate that single Cu atom yields facile valence-electron isolation from the conjugated π electron cloud of p-CN. Electron spin resonance measurements reveal that these isolated valence electrons can be easily excited to generate free electrons under photo-illumination, thus inducing high efficient photo-induced ammonia synthesis under ambient conditions.The NH_3 producing rate of copper modified carbon nitride(Cu-CN) reached 186 μmol g^(-1) h^(-1) under visible light irradiation with the quantum efficiency achieved 1.01% at 420 nm monochromatic light. This finding surely offers a model to open up a new vista for the ammonia synthesis at gentle conditions. 8Removal of VOCs from gas streams with double perovskite-type catalysts显示文摘Double perovskite-type catalysts including La2 CoMnO_6 and La_2 CuMnO_6 are first evaluated for the effectiveness in removing volatile organic compounds(VOCs), and single perovskites(La CoO_3, LaMnO_3, and La Cu O3) are also tested for comparison. All perovskites are tested with the gas hourly space velocity(GHSV) of 30,000 hr^(-1), and the temperature range of100–600°C for C_7H_8 removal. Experimental results indicate that double perovskites have better activity if compared with single perovskites. Especially, toluene(C_7H_8) can be completely oxidized to CO_2 at 300°C as La2 Co MnO_6 is applied. Characterization of catalysts indicates that double perovskites own unique surface properties and are of higher amounts of lattice oxygen,leading to higher activity. Additionally, apparent activation energy of 68 k J/mol is calculated using Mars-van Krevelen model for C7 H8 oxidation with La2 Co Mn O6 as catalyst. For durability test, both La2 Co Mn O6 and La_2 CuMnO_6 maintain high C7 H8 removal efficiencies of 100% and98%, respectively, at 300°C and 30,000 hr^(-1), and they also show good resistance to CO_2(5%) and H2 O(g)(5%) of the gas streams tested. 10Highly efficient generation of GGTA1 knockout pigs using a combination of TALEN m RNA and magnetic beads with somatic cell nuclear transfer显示文摘The transcription activator-like effector nuclease(TALEN) technique combined with the somatic cell nuclear transfer(SCNT) method has been successfully applied for creating genetically modified pigs. However, methods for isolating cells with biallelic indels requires further improvement because of the relatively low enrichment efficiency of mutated somatic cells. Moreover, little is known regarding the off-target effects of the TALEN system and the heredity of TALEN-modified pigs. In this study, an efficient method to increase the enrichment efficiency of TALEN-mediated biallelic knockout(KO) cells was established, and corresponding genetically modified pigs with the expected genotype were generated whose off-target effect, fertility and heredity characteristics were aslo evaluated. Two TALEN pairs were constructed to target the porcine α-1,3-galactosyltransferase(GGTA1) gene locus. TALEN m RNA was transfected into the ear fibroblasts followed by the enrichment of α-Gal null cells of minipigs using isolectin B4(IB4) lectin and m agnetic beads. A total of 115 cell c olonies were formed and validated to be GGTA1 KO cells by sequencing and 10 biallelic KO cell colonies were used as nuclear donors for SCNT. Thirty GGTA1 biallelic KO piglets were successfully delivered and grew normally. Seventeen potential off-target sites were investigated, and no off-target events were detected in the live piglets. To determine t he fertility and heredity characteristics of TALEN-modified pigs, 10 mature founders w ere mated with each other and the mutations were determined to be transmitted to the F1 piglets. 11Fourier mode decomposition of PIV data.显示文摘The modal decomposition technique is one of the most effective methods for studying the flow dynamics in a complex flow. By rejuvenating the discrete Fourier transform(DFT), this paper proposes a Fourier mode decomposition(FMD) method for the time series of particle image velocimetry(PIV) data from the fluid field. An experimental case concerning the control of the flow around a circular cylinder by a synthetic jet positioned at the rear stagnation point is used to demonstrate the use of the FMD method. In the three different regimes where the natural shedding frequency and actuation frequency dominate respectively or simultaneously, it is found that the FMD method is capable of extracting the dynamic mode along with its amplitude and phase according to the selected characteristic frequency based on the global power spectrum. For the quasiperiodic flow phenomena presented in this particular case, the FMD method can reconstruct the original flow field using the zero-th mode and the selected mode corresponding to the characteristic frequency. 12Effect of drag reducing riblet surface on coherent structure in turbulent boundary layer显示文摘The characteristics of turbulent boundary layer over streamwise aligned drag reducing riblet surface under zero-pressure gradient are investigated using particle image velocimetry. The formation and distribution of large-scale coherent structures and their effect on momentum partition are analyzed using two-point correlation and probability density function. Compared with smooth surface, the streamwise riblets reduce the friction velocity and Reynolds stress in the turbulent boundary layer, indicating the drag reduction effect. Strong correlation has been found between the occurrence of hairpin vortices and the momentum distribution. The number and streamwise length scale of hairpin vortices decrease over streamwise riblet surface. 13Porphyromonas gingivalis exacerbates ulcerative colitis via Porphyromonas gingivalis peptidylarginine deiminase显示文摘Abstract:Ulcerative Colitis(UC)has been reported to be related to Porphyromonas gingivalis(P.gingivalis).Porphyromonas gingivalis peptidylarginine deiminase(PPAD),a virulence factor released by P.gingivalis,is known to induce inflammatory responses.To explore the pathological relationships between PPAD and UC,we used homologous recombination technology to construct a P.gingivalis strain in which the PPAD gene was deleted(Δppad)and aΔppad strain in which the PPAD gene was restored(comΔppad).C57 BL/6 mice were orally gavaged with saline,P.gingivalis,Δppad,or comΔppad twice a week for the entire 40 days(days 0-40),and then,UC was induced by dextran sodium sulfate(DSS)solution for 10 days(days 31-40).P.gingivalis and comΔppad exacerbated DDS-induced colitis,which was determined by assessing the parameters of colon length,disease activity index,and histological activity index,butΔppad failed to exacerbate DDS-induced colitis.Flow cytometry and ELISA revealed that compared withΔppad,P.gingivalis,and comΔppad increased T helper 17(Th17)cell numbers and interleukin(IL)-17 production but decreased regulatory T cells(Tregs)numbers and IL-10 production in the spleens of mice with UC.We also cocultured P.gingivalis,Δppad,or comΔppad with T lymphocytes in vitro and found that P.gingivalis and comΔppad significantly increased Th17 cell numbers and decreased Treg cell numbers.Immunofluorescence staining of colon tissue paraffin sections also confirmed these results.The results suggested that P.gingivalis exacerbated the severity of UC in part via PPAD.Xida Zhao Jingbo Liu Chong Zhang Ning Yu Ze Lu Shuwei Zhang Yuchao Li Qian Li Junchao Liu Dongjuan Liu Yaping Pan 2021International Journal of Oral Science2021,13,3:5
14Effects of sinusoidal leading edge on delta wing performance and mechanism显示文摘Lift and drag characteristics of delta wings with low swept angle and various sinusoidal leading edges(SLE) were investigated in a wind tunnel.Three amplitudes and three wavelengths of SLE were tested.It is revealed that,in comparison with the baseline case,when the leading-edge amplitude A?5%C(root chord length of a delta wing),the stall of the delta wing can be delayed without penalty on the maximum lift coefficient;meanwhile,the lift-to-drag ratio was kept nearly unchanged.These are beneficial to aircraft maneuverability and agility.Surface oil and hydrogen-bubble flow visualization experiments were further conducted to provide a general view of the underlying flow mechanism of SLE on delta wings.It was found that,for the flow over delta wing with SLE,vortices were generated from every crest of SLE,in contrast to the dual leading-edge vortex structure generated from the apex of the base wing.At high angle of attack,the breakdown of those vortices originating from the crests of SLE may provide additional turbulent kinetic energy to the flow,resulting in the increase of the flow reattachment region on the leeward side,therefore the stall can be delayed.CHEN Huang PAN Chong WANG JinJun 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,7:4
15Effects of surface shapes on properties of turbulent/non-turbulent interface in turbulent boundary layers显示文摘The effects of directional riblets surfaces on the turbulent/non-turbulent(T/NT) interface in turbulent boundary layers are experimentally investigated using two-dimensional time-resolved particle image velocimetry(PIV). The velocity field of streamwise-wall-normal plane for the smooth surface, converging and diverging riblets surfaces are measured. The interface is detected using the criterion of local kinetic energy. The statistical properties of interface height and conditional averaged velocity for different surfaces are analyzed. It is shown that, the converging and diverging riblets surfaces have little effect on the fractal dimension of the T/NT interface, but they cause the intermittency profile deviate from error function and the probability distribution of interface height deviate from Gaussian function. To be specific, the distribution of interface height for the converging riblets surface shows a positive skewness while it shows a negative skewness for the diverging riblets surface.Moreover, the conditional averaged streamwise velocity and spanwise vorticity across the interface are analyzed, and it is found that their self-similarities are preserved for different surfaces when normalized with respective friction velocity. 17Ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration of retropharyngeal lymph nodes after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma: a novel technique for accurate diagnosis显示文摘Background:Enlarged retropharyngeal lymph nodes(RLNs)are very common in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC)undergoing radiotherapy.The most suitable treatment option for enlarged RLNs depends on the pathological results.However,RLN sampling is difficult and imminent in the clinic setting.We recently developed a novel minimally invasive technique termed endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration(EUS-FNA)for sam-pling RLN tissues sufficient for pathological or cytological diagnosis.Methods:We enrolled 30 post-radiotherapy patients with NPC with suspected RLN metastasis detected via mag-netic resonance imaging(MRI).The EUS probe was introduced into the nasopharynx via the nostrils,and EUS was then used to scan the retropharyngeal space and locate the RLN in the anterior carotid sheath.EUS-FNA was subsequently performed.The safety and efficacy of using EUS-FNA to sample the RLN tissues were assessed.Results:Strips of tissue were successfully sampled from all patients using EUS-FNA.Of the 30 patients,23 were confirmed to have cancer cells in the biopsied tissues via pathology or cytology examinations with 1 EUS-FNA biopsy session.The seven cases without confirmed cancer cells were subsequently reanalyzed by using another EUS-FNA biopsy session,and two more cases were confirmed possessing cancer cells.The other five patients without con-firmed cancer cells were closely followed with MRI every month for 3 months.After follow-up for 3 months,three patients were still considered cancer-free due to the presence of RLNs with stable or shrinking diameters.The rest two patients who showed progressive disease underwent a third EUS-FNA biopsy procedure and were further confirmed to be cancer cell-positive.In the whole cohort reported here,the EUS-FNA procedure was not associated with any severe complications.Conclusion:EUS-FNA is a safe and effective diagnostic approach for sampling tissues from the RLNs in patients with suspected recurrent NPC.Long-Jun He Chuanbo Xie Yin Li Lin-Na Luo Ke Pan Xiao-Yan Gao Li-Zhi Liu Jian-Ming Gao Guang-Yu Luo Hong-Bo Shan Ming-Yuan Chen Chong Zhao Wei-Jun Fan Ping Yang Guo-Liang Xu Jian-Jun Li 2018Cancer Communications2018,38,1:3
18Anisotropy of wrought magnesium alloys: A focused overview显示文摘In this paper, the relationship between anisotropic mechanical properties and the corresponding microstructure evolution of wrought magnesium alloys is critically reviewed. Experimental observations of the strong anisotropy(including the strength differential effect) induced by texture and twinning are discussed under different loading conditions(i.e., monotonic, cyclic and multiaxial loading). An accurate constitutive model is essential to describe the mechanical responses and to predict the forming performance considering engineering applications. Therefore, macroscale constitutive modeling of the anisotropy of magnesium alloys with directional distortional hardening are comprehensively reviewed with different approaches. 20Effect of surface roughness element on near wall turbulence with zero-pressure gradient显示文摘In the present paper,we present an investigation on the effect of roughness elements onto near-wall kinematics of a zeropressure-gradient turbulent boundary layer.An array of spanwisely-aligned cylindrical roughness elements was attached to the wall surface to regulate the near-wall low-speed streaky structures.With both qualitative visualization and quantitative measurement,we found that the regularization only occurs in the region below the height of the roughness elements.Statistical analysis on the probability distribution of the streak spanwise spacing showed that the mean spanwise streak spacing is dominated by the roughness elements;however,the latter's effect is in competition with the intrinsic streak generation mechanisms of smooth wall turbulence.Below the top of the roughness elements,local streamwise turbulent fluctuation intensity can be reduced by about 10%.We used POD analysis to depict such regularization effect in terms of near-wall structure modulation.We further found that if the spanwise spacing of roughness elements increased to be larger than the mean streak spacing in the smooth wall turbulence,there is no streak-regularization effect in the buffer region,so that the near-wall streamwise turbulent fluctuation intensity doesn't reduce.ZHANG Xin PAN Chong SHEN JunQi WANG JinJun 2015Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2015,58,6:3
