1Natural^(15)N abundance in soils and plants in relation to N cycling in a rangeland in Inner Mongolia显示文摘Aims Natural 15N abundance provides integrated information about nitrogen(N)input,transformation and output,indirectly reflecting N cycling traits within terrestrial ecosystems.However,relationships between natural 15N abundance and N cycling processes are poorly understood in China.Here,our primary objectives were to(i)examine the effects of grazing at varying levels of intensity on d15N of soils and plants in a semi-arid grassland;(ii)detect the relationships between d15N of soils and four major N cycling processes(i.e.mineralization,nitrification,denitrification and ammonia volatilization);and(iii)determine whether d15N of soils can be used as an indicator of N cycling in this semi-arid grassland.Methods The field experiment was conducted within the long-term(17-year)grazing enclosures in a semi-arid grassland in Inner Mongolia.Five grazing intensities(0.00,1.33,2.67,4.00 and 5.33 sheep ha1)were designed.d15N values of topsoils(0–10 cm),surface soils(0–2 cm)and plants were measured in 2006.Differences in d15N of soils and plants between the five grazing intensities were examined.Rates of four soil N cycling processes were measured periodically during the 2005 and 2006 growing seasons.The d15N values of topsoils were linked to the four N cycling processes to investigate their relationships.Important Findings The d15N values of topsoils(5.20–5.96&)were substantially higher than the d15N values of plants(2.51–2.93&)and surface soils(1.44–2.92&)regardless of grazing intensities.The 15N-depleted N losses during microbial decomposition of organic matter in concert with the downward movement of residual substrate over time are the possible causes of higher d15N values in topsoils than in surface soils.In addition,the d15N values of topsoils were positively correlated with the d15N values of both plants and surface soils.Grazing,especially the high-intensity grazing(5.33 sheep ha1),resulted in a significant decrease in d15N of surface soils.However,no statistically significant variations in d15N of topsoils and plants were found in response to grazing.The d15N values of topsoils exhibited significant dependence on the cumulative rates of NH3 volatilization,net nitrification and denitrification in 2005 but not in 2006.Yuqing Xu Jicheng He Weixin Cheng Xuerong Xing Linghao Li 2010Journal of Plant Ecology2010,3,3:12
2Internal States Influence the Representation and Modulation of Food Intake by Subthalamic Neurons显示文摘Deep brain stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus(STN)is an effective therapy for motor deficits in Parkinson’s disease(PD),but commonly causes weight gain in late-phase PD patients probably by increasing feeding motivation.It is unclear how STN neurons represent and modulate feeding behavior in different internal states.In the present study,we found that feeding caused a robust activation of STN neurons in mice(GCaMP6 signal increased by 48.4%±7.2%,n=9,P=0.0003),and the extent varied with the size,valence,and palatability of food,but not with the repetition of feeding.Interestingly,energy deprivation increased the spontaneous firing rate(8.5±1.5 Hz,n=17,versus 4.7±0.7 Hz,n=18,P=0.03)and the depolarization-induced spikes in STN neurons,as well as enhanced the STN responses to feeding.Optogenetic experiments revealed that stimulation and inhibition of STN neurons respectively reduced(by 11%±6%,n=6,P=0.02)and enhanced(by 36%±15%,n=7,P=0.03)food intake only in the dark phase.In conclusion,our results support the hypothesis that STN neurons are activated by feeding behavior,depending on energy homeostatic status and the palatability of food,and modulation of these neurons is sufficient to regulate food intake.Haichuan Wu Xiang Yan Dongliang Tang Weixin Gi Yiwen Luan Haijiang Cai Chunyi Zhou Cheng Xiao 2020Neuroscience Bulletin2020,36,11:3
3Priming effect and its regulating factors for fast and slow soil organic carbon pools: A meta-analysis显示文摘The priming effect (PE) plays a critical role in the control of soil carbon (C) cycling and influences the alteration of soil organic C (SOC) decomposition by fresh C input.However,drivers of PE for the fast and slow SOC pools remain unclear because of the varying results from individual studies.Using meta-analysis in combination with boosted regression tree (BRT) analysis,we evaluated the relative contribution of multiple drivers of PE with substrate and their patterns across each driver gradient.The results showed that the variability of PE was larger for the fast SOC pool than for the slow SOC pool.Based on the BRT analysis,67%and 34%of the variation in PE were explained for the fast and slow SOC pools,respectively.There were seven determinants of PE for the fast SOC pool,with soil total nitrogen (N) content being the most important,followed by,in a descending order,substrate C:N ratio,soil moisture,soil clay content,soil pH,substrate addition rate,and SOC content.The directions of PE were negative when soil total N content and substrate C:N ratio were below 2 g kg~(-1)and 20,respectively,but the directions changed from negative to positive with increasing levels of this two factors.Soils with optimal water content (50%–70%of the water-holding capacity) or moderately low pH (5–6) were prone to producing a greater PE.For the slow SOC pool,soil p H and soil total N content substantially explained the variation in PE.The magnitude of PE was likely to decrease with increasing soil pH for the slow SOC pool.In addition,the magnitude of PE slightly fluctuated with soil N content for the slow SOC pool.Overall,this meta-analysis provided new insights into the distinctive PEs for different SOC pools and indicated knowledge gaps between PE and its regulating factors for the slow SOC pool.Changfu HUO Junyi LIANG Weidong ZHANG Peng WANG Weixin CHENG 2022Pedosphere2022,32,1:2

13Activation and surface reactions of CO and H2 on ZnO powders and nanoplates under CO hydrogenation reaction conditions显示文摘Activation and surface reactions of CO and H2 on ZnO powders and nanoplates under CO hydrogenation reaction conditions were(quasi) in situ studied using temperature programmed surface reaction spectra, diffuse reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, inelastic neutron scattering spectroscopy and electron paramagnetic resonance. CO undergoes disproportion reaction to produce gaseous CO2 and surface carbon adatoms, and adsorbs to form surface formate species. H2 adsorption forms dominant irreversibly-adsorbed surface hydroxyl groups and interstitial H species and very minor surface Zn-H species. Surface formate species and hydroxyl groups react to produce CO2 and H2, while surface carbon adatoms are hydrogenated by surface Zn-H species sequentially to produce CH(a), CH2(a), CH3(a)and eventually gaseous CH4. 15Synthesis and evaluation of poly(N-vinyl caprolactam)-co-tert-butyl acrylate as kinetic hydrate inhibitor显示文摘Low dosage kinetic hydrate inhibitors(KHIs)are a kind of alternative chemical additives to high dosage thermodynamic inhibitors for preventing gas hydrate formation in oil&gas production wells and transportation pipelines.In this paper,a new KHI,poly(N-vinyl caprolactam)-co-tert-butyl acrylate(PVCapco-TBA),was successfully synthesized with N-vinyl caprolactam(NVCap)and tert-butyl acrylate.The kinetic inhibition performances of PVCap-co-TBA on the formations of both structureⅠmethane hydrate and structureⅡnatural gas hydrate were investigated by measuring the onset times of hydrate formation under different conditions and compared with commercial KHIs such as PVP,PVCap and inhibex 501.The results indicated that PVCap-co-TBA outperformed these widely applied inhibitors for both structureⅠand structureⅡhydrates.At the same dosage of KHI,the maximum tolerable degree of subcooling under which the onset time of hydrate formation exceeded 24 hours for structureⅠhydrate was much lower than that for structureⅡhydrate.The inhibition strength increased with the increasing dosage of PVCap-co-TBA;The maximum tolerable degree of subcooling for the natural gas hydrate is more than10 K when the dosage was higher than 0.5%(mass)while it achieved 12 K when that dosage rose to0.75%(mass).Additionally,we found polypropylene glycol could be used as synergist at the dosage of 1.0%(mass)or so,under which the kinetic inhibition performance of PVCap-co-TBA could be improved significantly.All evaluation results demonstrated that PVCap-co-TBA was a very promising KHI and a competitive alternative to the existing commercial KHIs.Xing Huang Ran Zhu Liwei Cheng Yijian Zhu Peng Xiao Xiaohui Wang Bei Liu Changyu Sun Weixin Pang Qingping Li Guangjin Chen Xinjing Xu Jinfeng Ji 2022Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2022,,10:0
16Bouquet-like uranium-containing selenotungstate consisting of two different Keggin-/Anderson-type units with excellent photoluminescence quantum yield显示文摘We present the synthesis,characterization and photoluminescence properties of uranium-containing selenotungstate,[(UO_(2))_(3)(SeO_(3))_(3)Na_(5)(H_(2)O)_(6)(SeW_(6)O_(21))(SeW_(9)O_(33))_(3)]^(21–),which was isolated by a one-pot reaction of uranium nitrate with sodium tungstate and sodium selenite in a pH 5.2 aqueous solution at 90°C.In this study,the effect of the introduction of lone-electron pair containing heteroatoms on the structure is demonstrated,a three-layered heterometallic{Se_(3)U_(3)Na_(5)}cluster is encapsulated by two different anionic building block units:three trivacant Keggin{B-α-Se W_(9)O_(33)}and one Anderson{SeW_(6)O_(21)}.To our knowledge,the{Se_(3)U_(3)Na_(5)}cluster has never been observed in the polyoxometalate chemistry.The solidstate photoluminescence properties and lifetime decay behaviours of the title compound(1)have been measured at room temperature,and the photoluminescence spectrum displays the characteristic emission bands of corresponding uranyl cations.In addition,the photoluminescence quantum yield of 1 is 72%,which is almost three times that of starting material UO_(2)(NO_(3))_(2)·6H_(2)O(27%).By using this strategy,we envision that an increasing number of assemblies with‘open’clusters may be designed and obtained,in which the exposed oxygen atoms show strong affinity towards metal ions,providing new opportunities to generate bigger clusters or to tune existing properties.Mengyuan Cheng Haiying Wang Yufeng Liu Jingwen Shi Mingqi Zhou Weixin Du Dongdi Zhang Guoping Yang 2023Chinese Chemical Letters2023,34,1:0
