2Nest-site Use by the Chinese Alligator (Alligator sinensis) in the Gaojingmiao Breeding Farm,Anhui,China显示文摘Nest-site and nesting material used by the Chinese alligator(Alligator sinensis) was studied at the Gaojingmiao Breeding Farm, Langxi County,Anhui, China from May to September 2009. In this study, artificial nesting materials were placed in 43 potential nesting sites before the nesting season, 11 of which were used. Additionally, eight nests were built at natural sites without artificial nesting materials provided. Seven environmental variables were measured at each nest site: distance from water, height from water surface, sunlight duration, nearest bank slope, nest site slope, vegetation coverage and concealment. Statistical analyses indicated that concealment was significantly different between used and unused nest sites, with concealment being significantly correlated to the use of materialsplaced sites. In comparing the nests at artificial vs. natural sites, only the nearest bank slope differed significantly. 3Genome-wide transcriptome analysis of roots in two rice varieties in response to alternate wetting and drying irrigation显示文摘Alternate wetting and drying(AWD)irrigation has been widely used as an efficient rice production method to obtain better yield without continuous flooding(CF)of the paddy field.However,how this practice affects gene expression to regulate rice physiology and morphology is largely unknown.In this study,we used two rice varieties,Nipponbare,a lowland rice cultivar,and Gaoshan 1,an upland cultivar,and found that root dry weight(RDW)and root oxidation activity(ROA)in both cultivars substantially increased in response to AWD.We then analyzed the differences in transcriptome profiles of their roots irrigated in AWD vs.CF conditions.AWD responsive genes are mainly involved in lignin biosynthetic pathway and phytohormone signal transduction pathway and belong mainly to b HLH,b ZIP,NAC,WRKY,and HSF transcription factor families.We discussed how these differentially expressed genes may contribute to the morphological adaptations observed in roots exposed to AWD.This analysis also provides useful information to explain the similarities and differences in adaptation to AWD irrigation between the two rice ecotypes.Tao Song Debatosh Das Feng Yang Moxian Chen Yuan Tian Chaolin Cheng Chao Sun Weifeng Xu Jianhua Zhang 2020The Crop Journal2020,8,4:1
4Practical operation and theoretical basis of difference-in-difference regression in science of science:The comparative trial on the scientific performance of Nobel laureates versus their coauthors显示文摘Purpose:In recent decades,with the availability of large-scale scientific corpus datasets,difference-in-difference(DID)is increasingly used in the science of science and bibliometrics studies.DID method outputs the unbiased estimation on condition that several hypotheses hold,especially the common trend assumption.In this paper,we gave a systematic demonstration of DID in the science of science,and the potential ways to improve the accuracy of DID method.Design/methodology/approach:At first,we reviewed the statistical assumptions,the model specification,and the application procedures of DID method.Second,to improve the necessary assumptions before conducting DID regression and the accuracy of estimation,we introduced some matching techniques serving as the pre-selecting step for DID design by matching control individuals who are equivalent to those treated ones on observational variables before the intervention.Lastly,we performed a case study to estimate the effects of prizewinning on the scientific performance of Nobel laureates,by comparing the yearly citation impact after the prizewinning year between Nobel laureates and their prizewinning-work coauthors.Findings:We introduced the procedures to conduct a DID estimation and demonstrated the effectiveness to use matching method to improve the results.As a case study,we found that there are no significant increases in citations for Nobel laureates compared to their prizewinning coauthors.Research limitations:This study ignored the rigorous mathematical deduction parts of DID,while focused on the practical parts.Practical implications:This work gives experimental practice and potential guidelines to use DID method in science of science and bibliometrics studies.Originality/value:This study gains insights into the usage of econometric tools in science of science.Yurui Huang Chaolin Tian Yifang Ma 2023Journal of Data and Information Science2023,8,1:0
5RR1 and RR2 gene deletion affects the immunogenicity of a live attenuated pseudorabies virus vaccine candidate in natural pig host显示文摘As virulence-determining genes, RR1 and RR2 encode the small subunit and large subunit of viral ribonucleotide reductase(RR) in pseudorabies virus which have been extensively studied in mice. However,their role in pigs has not been adequately investigated. In this study, we deleted RR1 and RR2 genes based on a TK/g E/g I triple gene-deleted pseudorabies virus and tested its efficacy in pigs as a vaccine candidate. The rescued virus showed similar growth properties and plaque size in vitro as its parent strain. In an animal study, the virus could elicit humoral immune responses shown by generation of g B-specific antibodies and virus neutralizing antibodies.However, vaccination could not provide protection against virulent pseudorabies virus challenge since vaccinated pigs showed clinical pseudorabies-specific syndromes.
