| 1 | Elevational patterns and determinants of plant diversity in the Baekdudaegan Mountains,South Korea:Species vs.functional diversity显示文摘The elevational gradient present in mountainous areas provides the most powerful natural experimental system available to clarify the ecological and evolutionary responses of living organisms to geophysical influences. In this study,we explored the elevational patterns of plant species and functional diversity and the effects of area,mid-domain effect, climatic variables and net primary productivity on the observed diversity patterns along the ridge of the Baekdudaegan Mountains,South Korea.Rapoport’s elevational rule was also evaluated by examining the relationship between elevational range size of plant species and elevation.A total of 802 plant species from 97 families and 342 genera were found in 1100 plots along a 200-–1900-m elevational gradient along the ridge. The elevational patterns of plant species diversity along the ridge of the Baekdudaegan depicted distinctly hump-shaped patterns, whereas the functional diversity decreased monotonically with elevation. The mid-domain effect was the most powerful explanatory variable for species diversity patterns. However, climatic variables were better predictors for functional diversity. Moreover,Rapoport’s elevational rule was not supported. Our study suggests that different elevational patterns may be observed among different diversity measurements even in the same taxon and that there may be fundamental differences in the mechanisms underlying these diversity patterns. | LEE ChangBae CHUN JungHwa CHO HyunJe | 2013 | Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,31: | 4 |
| 2 | Accurate parameter estimation of systematic odometry errors for two-wheel differential mobile robots显示文摘Odometry using incremental wheel encoder sensors provides the relative robot pose estimation. However, the odometry suffers from the accumulation of kinematic modeling errors of wheels as the robot's travel distance increases. Therefore, the systematic errors need to be calibrated. The University of Michigan Benchmark(UMBmark)method is a widely used calibration scheme of the systematic errors in two-wheel differential mobile robots. In this paper, the accurate parameter estimation of systematic errors is proposed by extending the conventional method. The contributions of this paper can be summarized as two issues. The first contribution is to present new calibration equations that reduce the systematic odometry errors. The new equations were derived to overcome the limitation of conventional schemes. The second contribution is to propose the design guideline of the test track for calibration experiments. The calibration performance can be improved by appropriate design of the test track. The simulations and experimental results show that the accurate parameter estimation can be implemented by the proposed method. | Changbae Jung Woojin Chung | 2012 | Journal of Measurement Science and Instrumentation2012,3,3: | 2 |

| 9 | Stochasticity dominates assembly processes of soil nematode metacommunities on three Asian mountains显示文摘Nematodes play an important role in ecosystems;however, very little is known about their assembly processes and the factors influencing them.We studied nematode communities in bulk soils from three Asian mountain ecosystems to determine the assembly processes of free-living nematode metacommunities and their driving factors. On each mountain, elevations span a range of climatic conditions with the potential to reveal assembly processes that predominate across multiple biomes.A phylogenetic null modeling framework was used to analyze 18S rRNA gene amplicons to quantify various assembly processes. We found that phylogenetic turnover between nematode communities on all mountains was dominated by stochastic processes, with“undominated processes”being the most predominant stochastic factor.Elevation has a significant impact on the relative importance of deterministic and stochastic processes.A variety of climatic and edaphic variables significantly influenced the variations in community assembly processes with elevation, even though their impacts were not consistent between the mountains.Overall, our results indicate that free-living nematode metacommunities in a wide range of environments are largely structured by stochastic processes rather than by niche-based deterministic processes, suggesting that metacommunities of soil free-living nematodes may respond to climate change in a largely unpredictable way. | Shuqi ZOU Jonathan ADAMS Zhi YU Nan LI Dorsaf KERFAHI Binu TRIPATHI Changbae LEE Teng YANG Itumeleng MOROENYANE Xing CHEN Jinsoo KIM Hyun Jeong KWAK Matthew Chidozie OGWU Sang-Seob LEE Ke DONG | 2023 | Pedosphere2023,33,2: | 0 |
