| 2 | Effects of Different Tillage Systems on Soil Properties,Root Growth,Grain Yield,and Water Use Efficiency of Winter Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) in Arid Northwest China显示文摘Studies on root development, soil physical properties, grain yield, and water-use efficiency are important for identifying suitable soil management practices for sustainable crop production. A field experiment was conducted from 2006 through 2008 in arid northwestern China to determine the effects of four tillage systems on soil properties, root development, water-use efficiency, and grain yield of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). The cultivar Fan 13 was grown under four tillage systems:conventional tillage (CT) without wheat stubble, no-tillage without wheat stubble mulching (NT), no-tillage with wheat stubble standing (NTSS), and no-tillage with wheat stubble mulching (NTS). The soil bulk density (BD) under CT system increased gradually from sowing to harvest, but that in NT, NTSS, and NTS systems had little change. Compared to the CT system, the NTSS and NTS systems improved total soil water storage (0-150 cm) by 6.1-9.6 and 10.5- 15.3% before sowing, and by 2.2-8.9 and 13.0-15.1% after harvest, respectively. The NTSS and NTS systems also increased mean dry root weight density (DRWD) as compared to CT system. The NTS system significantly improved water-use efficiency by 17.2-17.5% and crop yield by 15.6-16.8%, and the NTSS system improved that by 7.8-9.6 and 7.0-12.8%, respectively, compared with the CT system. | 4 | Ge-Gen Decoction attenuates oxytocin-induced uterine contraction and writhing response: potential application in primary dysmenorrhea therapy显示文摘The uterine tetanic contraction and uterine artery blood flow reduction are possible reasons for primary dysmenorrhea(PD). In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the uterine relaxant effect and the influence on uterine artery blood velocity of Ge-Gen Decoction(GGD), a well-known Chinese herbal formula. In female ICR mice, uterine contraction was induced by oxytocin exposure following estradiol benzoate pretreatment, and the uterine artery blood velocity was detected by Doppler ultrasound. Histopathological examination of the uterine tissue samples were performed by H&E staining. Ex vivo studies demonstrated that oxytocin, posterior pituitary, or acetylcholine induced contractions in isolated mouse uterus. GGD inhibited both spontaneous and stimulated contractions. In vivo study demonstrated that GGD significantly reduced oxytocin-induced writhing responses with a maximal inhibition of 87%. Further study demonstrated that GGD normalized oxytocin-induced abnormalities of prostaglandins F_2 alpha(PGF_(2α)) and Ca^(2+) in mice. In addition, injection of oxytocin induced a decrease in uterine artery blood flow velocity. Pretreatment with GGD reversed the oxytocin response on blood flow velocity. Histopathological examination showed pretreatment with GGD alleviated inflammation and edema in the uterus when compared with the model group. | 8 | Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors: biology, diagnosis, and treatment显示文摘Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNETs), a group of endocrine tumors arising in the pancreas, are among the most common neuroendocrine tumors. The genetic causes of familial and sporadic PNETs are somewhat understood, but their molecular pathogenesis remains unknown. Most PNETs are indolent but have malignant potential. The biological behavior of an individual PNET is unpredictable; higher tumor grade, lymph node and liver metastasis, and larger tumor size generally indicate a less favorable prognosis. Endocrine testing, imaging, and histological evidence are necessary to accurately diagnose PNETs. A 4-pronged aggressive treatment approach consisting of surgery, locoregional therapy, systemic therapy, and complication control has become popular in academic centers around the world. The optimal application of the multiple systemic therapeutic modalities is under development; efficacy, safety, availability, and cost should be considered when treating a specific patient. | 11 | Experimental and numerical study of chaff cloud kinetic performance under impact of high speed airflow显示文摘To solve the kinetic and diffusion problem of surface-type infrared decoy, multi-chaff kinetic models are established and chaff cloud holistic kinetic performance are analyzed under the impact of high speed airflow in this work. Chaffs rotate rapidly during the motion under the impact of high speed airflow. The rotation speed is correlated with lift, position of pressure center and aerodynamic damping. Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) is used to compute the aerodynamic coefficients of chaff. It is found that there exists serious aerodynamic interference which mainly relates to the overlapping area and distance among chaffs during the diffusion of chaff cloud. The chaff wind tunnel test and rocket sled experiment are carried out to verify the credibility of the models in this work. Then, the variation of chaff cloud expectation and extremum are analyzed to achieve the holistic kinetic and diffusing performance of chaff cloud. Simulation results demonstrate that the chaffs diffuse rapidly under the impact of high speed airflow and chaff cloud can be formed rapidly within 0.5 s. | 14 | H2 strain attenuated live hepatitis A vaccines:protective efficacy in a hepatitis A outbreak显示文摘AIM To investigate the protective efficacy ofH2 strain attenuated live hepatitis A vaccines(H2-strain vaccines)in hepatitis A(HA)outbreaks.METHODS With the permission of theirparents,5551 pre-school and grade 1-3 primaryschool children were inoculated with 1 dose(106.5TCID50)of H2-strain vaccines in anonrandomized,controlled trial conducted inFucheng County,Hebei Province in May 1997.Another 6485 children in the same grades andcompatible in gender and age were enrolled ascontrols.Epidemiological and serological surveywas conducted to evaluate the protectiveefficacy of the vaccines.ELISA was used todetect serum IgM anti-HAV.RESULTS HA outbreak started in early May1998,peaked in the middle of the same month,and lasted about 80 days.Overall 302 HA caseswere found,192(53.58%)were 5-9 years old.One vaccinee and 25 control cases were found tohave hepatitis A,which account for 0.28%(1/356)and 5.92%(25/422)of all vaccinees andcontrols in the 14 villages,respectively.The protective efficacy of vaccines was 95.27%(95% Cl:85.83%-104.72%).In subjects testedfor anti-HAV IgM from 13 villages,1(0.40%)overt and 11(4.06%)asymptomatic HAV caseswere found in 271 vaccinees,but 21(6.69%)ofovert and asymptomatic ones were found in 314controls.CONCLUSION H2 strain vaccines were excellent in preventing overt hepatitis A, but not so effective in preventing asymptomatic hepatitis A virus infection. | 15 | Vertical Distribution of Soil Carbon, Nitrogen, and Phosphorus in Typical Chinese Terrestrial Ecosystems显示文摘Characterization of the vertical distribution of soil organic carbon(C), nitrogen(N), and phosphorus(P) may improve our ability to accurately estimate soil C, N, and P storage. Based on a database of 21 354 records in 74 long-term monitoring plots from 2004 to 2013 in the Chinese Ecosystem Research Network(CERN), we built fitting functions to quantify the vertical distribution of soil C, N, and P(up to 100 cm depth) in the typical Chinese terrestrial ecosystems. The decrease of soil C, N, and P content with depth can be well fitted with various mathematical functions. The fitting functions differed greatly between artificial(agriculture) and natural(desert, forest, and grassland) ecosystems, and also differed with respect to soil C, N, and P content. In both the artificial and natural ecosystems, the best fitting functions were exponential functions for C, quadratic functions for N, and quadratic functions for P. Furthermore, the stoichiometric ratios of soil C, N, and P were ranked in descending order: grassland > forest > agriculture > desert, and were also associated with climate. This study is the first to build the fitting functions for the profile distribution of soil C, N, and P in China at a national scale. | 16 | Comparison of microwave assisted extraction with hot reflux extraction in acquirement and degradation of anthocyanin from powdered blueberry显示文摘Acquirement and degradation kinetics of anthocyanin from powdered blueberry were studied to analyze the degradation reason and improve the yield of anthocyanin under microwave assisted extraction(MAE)conditions.Hot reflux extraction(HRE)method was employed as a reference with MAE to discriminate the influences of the microwave irradiation under the same extraction temperature at 30℃-70℃.Ethanol was selected as extraction solvent.Microwave volumetric heating improves the diffusion and solubility of anthocyanin within powdered blueberry particles in the pre-heating period.The kinetic coefficients,in terms of delivery kinetic and diffusion kinetic,are lower in MAE than that in HRE.Four anthocyanins including delphinidin,cyanidin,malvidin and pelaronidin were detected in the anthocyanin extracts from blueberry.Delphinidin,cyaniding,and pelargonidin contents significantly decrease,but malvidin was unchanged in MAE.Anthocyanin yield increases with elevating extraction temperatures,but anthocyanin degradation occurred at 41.2℃.The acquirement amount of anthocyanin is lower than its degradation amount when microwave extraction temperature is higher than 53.6℃.The self-aggregation of anthocyanin molecules and degradation results in the reduction of anthocyanin yield extracted from blueberry powder.In MAE,microwave volumetric heating results in the rapidly elevated temperature in pre-heating stage and generation of internal pressure to improve the acquirement of anthocyanin and the non-thermal effect from microwave field may weak the effect of temperature to decline the degradation of anthocyanin to monomer.The non-thermal microwave irradiation has pronounced effects compared to the effects of temperature on the structure changes of anthocyanin molecules at extraction temperature below 50℃.In HRE,convection mode of heat transfer in extraction system form the non-uniform distribution of temperature in the extraction vials to decrease the acquirement yield of anthocyanin from the blueberry powder.The research results provide valuable data to optimize extraction temperature for high extraction yield and bioactivity of anthocyanin in microwave extraction process. | Sun Yu Xue Hongkun Liu Chenghai Liu Chai Su Xiaolin Zheng Xianzhe | 2016 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2016,9,6: | 7 |
| 17 | Humanin attenuates Alzheimer-like cognitive deficits and pathological changes induced by amyloid β-peptide in rats显示文摘Amyloid β-peptide(Aβ) has been implicated as a key molecule in the neurodegenerative cascades of Alzheimer 's disease(AD). Humanin(HN) is a secretory peptide that inhibits the neurotoxicity of Aβ. However, the mechanism(s) by which HN exerts its neuroprotection against Aβ-induced ADlike pathological changes and memory deficits are yet to be completely defined. In the present study,we provided evidence that treatment of rats with HN increases the number of dendritic branches and the density of dendritic spines, and upregulates pre- and post-synaptic protein levels; these effects lead to enhanced long-term potentiation and amelioration of the memory deficits induced by Aβ1-42. HN also attenuated Aβ1-42-induced tau hyperphosphorylation,apparently by inhibiting the phosphorylation of Tyr307 on the inhibitory protein phosphatase-2A(PP2A)catalytic subunit and thereby activating PP2 A. HN also inhibited apoptosis and reduced the oxidativestress induced by Aβ1-42. | 18 | Lingbao Huxin Pill Alleviates Apoptosis and Inflammation at Infarct Border Zone through SIRT1-Mediated FOXO1 and NF-κB Pathways in Rat Model of Acute Myocardial Infarction显示文摘Objective To investigate whether Lingbao Huxin Pill(LBHX)protects against acute myocardial infarction(AMI)at the infarct border zone(IBZ)of myocardial tissue by regulating apoptosis and inflammation through the sirtuin 1(SIRT1)-mediated forkhead box protein O1(FOXO1)and nuclear factor-κB(NF-κB)signaling pathways.Methods Six-week-old Wistar rats with normal diet were randomized into the sham,the model,Betaloc(0.9 mg/kg daily),LBHX-L(0.45 mg/kg daily),LBHX-M(0.9 mg/kg daily),LBHX-H(1.8 mg/kg daily),and LBHX+EX527(0.9 mg/kg daily)groups according to the method of random number table,13 in each group.In this study,left anterior descending coronary artery(LADCA)ligation was performed to induce an AMI model in rats.The myocardial infarction area was examined using a 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride solution staining assay.A TdT-mediated dUTP nick-end labeling(TUNEL)assay was conducted to assess cardiomyocyte apoptosis in the IBZ.The histopathology of myocardial tissue at the IBZ was assessed with Heidenhain,Masson and hematoxylineosin(HE)staining assays.The expression levels of tumor necrosis factorα(TNF-α),interleukin(IL)-6,IL-1β,and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays(ELISAs).The mRNA expressions of SIRT1 and FOXO1 were detected by real-time qPCR(RT-qPCR).The protein expressions of SIRT1,FOXO1,SOD2,BAX and NF-κB p65 were detected by Western blot analysis.Results The ligation of the LADCA successfully induced an AMI model.The LBHX pretreatment reduced the infarct size in the AMI rats(P<0.01).The TUNEL assay revealed that LBHX inhibited cardiomyocyte apoptosis at the IBZ.Further,the histological examination showed that the LBHX pretreatment decreased the ischemic area of myocardial tissue(P<0.05),myocardial interstitial collagen deposition(P<0.05)and inflammation at the IBZ.The ELISA results indicated that LBHX decreased the serum levels of inflammatory cytokines in the AMI rats(P<0.05 or P<0.01).Furthermore,Western blot analysis revealed that the LBHX pretreatment upregulated the protein levels of SIRT1,FOXO1 and SOD2(P<0.05)and downregulated NF-κB p65 and BAX expressions(P<0.05).The RT-qPCR results showed that LBHX increased the SIRT1 mRNA and FOXO1 mRNA levels(P<0.05).These protective effects,including inhibiting apoptosis and alleviating inflammation in the IBZ,were partially abolished by EX527,an inhibitor of SIRT1.Conclusion LBHX could protect against AMI by suppressing apoptosis and inflammation in AMI rats and the SIRT1-mediated FOXO1 and NF-κB signaling pathways were involved in the cardioprotection effect of LBHX. | TAN Yu BIE Yu-long CHEN Li ZHAO Yi-han SONG Lei MIAO Li-na YU Yan-qiao CHAI Hua MA Xiao-juan SHI Da-zhuo | 2022 | Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine2022,28,4: | 6 |
| 19 | Differentiation of Hepatocellular Carcinoma from Hepatic Hemangioma and Focal Nodular Hyperplasia using Computed Tomographic Spectral Imaging显示文摘Background and Aims:Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is the most common primary hepatic malignancy.This study was designed to investigate the value of computed tomography(CT)spectral imaging in differentiating HCC from hepatic hemangioma(HH)and focal nodular hyperplasia(FNH).Methods:This was a retrospective study of 51 patients who underwent spectral multiple-phase CT at 40–140 keV during the arterial phase(AP)and portal venous phase(PP).Slopes of the spectral curves,iodine density,water density derived from iodine-and water-based material decomposition images,iodine uptake ratio(IUR),normalized iodine concentration,and the ratio of iodine concentration in liver lesions between AP and PP were measured or calculated.Results:As energy level decreased,the CT values of HCC(n=31),HH(n=17),and FNH(n=7)increased in both AP and PP.There were significant differences in IUR in the AP,IUR in the PP,normalized iodine concentration in the AP,slope in the AP,and slope in the PP among HCC,HH,and FNH.The CT values in AP,IUR in the AP and PP,normalized iodine concentration in the AP,slope in the AP and PP had high sensitivity and specificity in differentiating HH and HCC from FNH.Quantitative CT spectral data had higher sensitivity and specificity than conventional qualitative CT image analysis during the combined phases.Conclusions:Mean CT values at low energy(40–90 keV)and quantitative analysis of CT spectral data(IUR in the AP)could be helpful in the differentiation of HCC,HH,and FNH. | Weixia Li Ruokun Li Xiangtian Zhao Xiaozhu Lin Yixing Yu Jing Zhang Kemin Chen Weimin Chai Fuhua Yan | 2021 | Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology2021,9,3: | 6 |
