Arsenic redox transformation by Pseudomonas sp.HN-2 isolated from arsenic-contaminated soil in Hunan,China显示文摘A mesophilic,Gram-negative,arsenite[As(Ⅲ)]-oxidizing and arsenate[As(V)]-reducing bacterial strain,Pseudomonas sp.HN-2,was isolated from an As-contaminated soil.Phylogenetic analysis based on 16 S r RNA gene sequencing indicated that the strain was closely related to Pseudomonas stutzeri.Under aerobic conditions, this strain oxidized 92.0%(61.4 μmol/L) of arsenite to arsenate within 3 hr of incubation.Reduction of As(V) to As(Ⅲ) occurred in anoxic conditions.Pseudomonas sp.HN-2 is among the first soil bacteria shown to be capable of both aerobic As(Ⅲ) oxidation and anoxic As(V) reduction. The strain,as an efficient As(Ⅲ) oxidizer and As(V) reducer in Pseudomonas, has the potential to impact arsenic mobility in both anoxic and aerobic environments, and has potential application in As remediation processes. | Zhennan Zhang Naiyi Yin Xiaolin Cai Zhenzhou Wang Yanshan Cui | 2016 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2016,28,9: | 6
Speciation and bioaccessibility of lead and cadmium in soil treated with metal-enriched Indian mustard leaves显示文摘Indian mustard (Brassica juncea (L.) Czern.) has shown good potential for the phytoremediation of soil contaminated with heavy metals. However, there is little information about the speciation and bioaccessibility of heavy metals in soil during the decomposition of metal-rich Indian mustard leaves. Incubation experiments (1-, 3-, and 6-month) were carried out in Beijing and Hunan soil with metal-rich Indian mustard leaves addition (1% and 3%) and the effects of mustard leaves addition on the speciation and bioaccessibility of heavy metals were studied. The results showed that the addition of mustard leaves led to significant increases in pH and DOC in the Hunan soil. Both 1% and 3% of mustard leaf amendment caused the percentage of the exchangeable (F1), precipitated with carbonates (F2), bound to Fe/Mn oxides (F3) and bound to organic matter (F4) fractions of Pb and Cd to increase dramatically, while the percentage of the residual fraction (F5) of Cd and Pb significantly dropped in both Beijing and Hunan soils. Mustard leaf addition caused the bioaccessibility of Pb to decrease in the gastric phase, whereas the values increased in the small intestinal phase. The Cd bioaccessibility increased with mustard leaf addition in both the gastric and small intestinal phases. In conclusion, the metal-enriched mustard leaves addition induces Pb and Cd concentrations and their mobility increasing in the Beijing and Hunan soils. Therefore, heavy metal risk in metal-enriched plant leaves should be considered in phytoremediation system in which heavy metal might be brought back to soil and changed over time. | Yanshan Cui Jin Fu Xiaochen Chen | 2011 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,4: | 5

Evolution of kaolinite subgroup minerals and mixed-layer illite/smectite in the Paleogene Damintun Depression in Liaohe Basin of China and its implication for paleotemperature显示文摘The oil-rich Damintun Depression is located in the Liaohe Basin, Northeast China, and was formed during the Paleogene. The major oil-producing strata in the depression are mudstone and shale. To explore the burial diagenetic history of the basin and the formation thresholds of hydrocarbons, the characters of the kaolinite subgroup minerals and mixed-layer illite/smectite in the mudstone and the shale are studied by using X-ray diffraction, electron probe, scanning electron microscope, and Fourier infrared spectrum. The kaolinite subgroup consists of kaolinite and halloysite. The kaolinite is flake-like or vermiform-like. The halloysite is in long tubular shape and its length is related to its iron content. A longer tube has lower iron content. The crystallinity of kaolinite is 0.40 °2θ, and its degree of order increases from 0.03 to 1.17 with the burial depth. Kaolinite is in disorder when the buried depth is less than or equal to 2479 m , and it is partially ordered when the buried depth is greater than 2479 m. Kaolinite is supposed to turn into dickite when the depth is greater than 2550 m, but low penetrability and low porosity of the shale and mudstone prevent such a change. The mixed-layer illite/smectite changes from disorder to order continually as the buried depth increases. Its disorder (R0I/S), as defined by illite layer content (I%), is smaller than 50% at depths less than 2550.25 m. Based on Hoffman & Hower’s model, the paleo-geothermal gradients of 3.37–3.76°C/100 m (3.57°C /100 m on average) can be derived in the Paleocene Damintun Depression, which is significantly higher than the present geothermal gradient (2.9°C/100 m). The threshold depth of the oil formation in the depression is about 2550 m. | ZHAO Ming JI JunFeng CHEN ZhenYan CHEN XiaoMing CUI XiangDong WANG YanShan | 2011 | Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,1: | 3
Effect of two biogas residues' application on copper and zinc fractionation and release in different soils显示文摘Biogas residue (BR) is widely used as a new green fertilizer in agriculture in China. However, it often contains a high concentration of heavy metals so its application should cause our concern. An incubation experiment was conducted to study the risk of pig biogas residue (PBR) and chicken biogas residue (CBR) application on Liuminying soil (LS) and Yixing soil (YS). The soils were incubated for one, three and six months with 0, 2%, 4% and 6% addition of BRs. According to BCR extraction results, the PBR and CBR applications induced an increase in the concentration of exchangeable fraction of Zn. As for the concentration of exchangeable fraction of Cu, an increase was only observed in the treatments with PBR application. The heavy metal binding intensity also showed a similar trend. With the PBR application, for the LS and YS, the highest concentrations of exchangeable Zn increased 3.6 and 9.5 times, respectively, while the exchangeable Cu was increased by 52.6% and 187.1%. Dissolved organic carbon was the limiting factor for the exchangeable Cu while the exchangeable Zn was controlled by soil pH. PBR presented more agricultural risk than CBR when used as fertilizer. Meanwhile, BRs were more adaptable to LS than YS according to the heavy metal release results. | Miao Chen Yanshan Cui Fan Bai Jiaojiao Wang | 2013 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2013,25,9: | 2

New insight into the synergy of nitrogen-related sites on biochar surface for sulfamethoxazole adsorption from water显示文摘In-depth exploration of the relationship among different adsorption sites is conducive to design of efficient adsorbents for target pollutants removal from water. In this study, the experiments, multivariate non-linear regression and density functional theory calculations are applied to explore the possible synergistic effects of three nitrogen(N)-containing sites on cow dung biochar surface for sulfamethoxazole(SMX)adsorption.Notably,a strong synergistic effect between pyridinic N and pyrrolic N sites was found for sulfamethoxazole adsorption. The adsorption energies of SMX on four pyrrolic N-coupled pyridinic N structures were-1.02,-0.41,-0.49 and-0.72 e V,much higher than the sum of adsorption energies(-0.31 e V)on pyrrolic N and pyridinic N.Besides, the alteration of Mulliken charge revealed that the simultaneous presence of pyridinic N and pyrrolic N improved the electron transfer remarkably from-0.459 e and 0.094 e to-0.649 e and 0.186 e,benefiting for SMX adsorption. This work firstly explored the possible synergies of adsorption sites on biochar surface for organic contaminants removal from water, which shed new lights on the adsorption mechanism and provided valuable information to design efficient adsorbents in the field of water treatment. | Chuanbin Wang Lingchao Kong Yanshan Wang Xiaoqiang Cui Ning Li Beibei Yan Guanyi Chen | 2023 | Chinese Chemical Letters2023,34,9: | 0
