1Saponins as adipokines modulator: A possible therapeutic intervention for type 2 diabetes显示文摘Development of type 2 diabetes has been linked to β-cell failure coupled with insulin resistance and obesity. Adipose tissue, known as the fat store, secretes a number of hormones and proteins collectively termed adipokines some of which regulate insulin sensitivity. Dysregulation in the secretion of adipokines has been linked to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. In this review, we sum-marized evidence of the role of adipokines with focus on leptin, adiponectin, adipsin, visfatin and apelin in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes and discussed the potential of saponins to modify the ill-regulated adipokines secretions, which could promote the use of this class of phytochemicals as potential antidiabetics agents.Olusola Olalekan Elekofehinti Oluwamodupe Cecilia Ejelonu Jean Paul Kamdem Oluwaseun Benedicta Akinlosotu Isaac Gbadura Adanlawo 2017World Journal of Diabetes2017,8,7:2
2Schwannoma of the upper cervical spine-a case report显示文摘Upper cervical schwannoma is rare, and belongs to benign tumors that is usually asymptomatic. It accounted for only ten percent of schwannomas cases and mostly occurs in 40-50 years old patients.Aggressive and total resection is the treatment of choice for this tumor.Preoperative diagnosis is difficult, relying on clinical suspicion, and confirmed by surgical pathology. We report a 54-year-old male patient with chief complain of progressive weakness and numbness of his right arm for four months. He had a history of lymph node tumor in 2007 and excised in 2011.Neurological decrease was found on the right arm.The radiographic examination showed lytic lesion on the second, third, and fourth cervical spine.Computed tomography scan showed destruction extending to the first cervical vertebra.Capsulated extradural and extramedullary mass and compression to the spinal cord was found from the magnetic resonance imaging.Two-stage operation was performed. The first stage was posterior decompression with occipitocervical fusion and instrumentation, while the second was anterior decompression and iliac strut graft. Both operations performed using the surgical ultrasonic dissector.During three months'follow-up,it showed neurological improving.Neurological deficit appears when there is compression on the spinal cord.Total resection is the treatment of choice for these tumors.Preoperative imaging should be performed to exclude malignant tumor and found tumor extension.Primadenny Ariesa Airlangga Bambang Prijambodo Aries Rakhmat Hidayat Steesy Benedicta 2019Chinese Journal of Traumatology2019,22,6:1

7Anti-inflammatory activity of the essential oils of Cymbopogon validus(Stapf) Stapf ex Burtt Davy from Eastern Cape, South Africa显示文摘Objective: To evaluate the essential oil composition and the anti-inflammatory activity of Cymbopogon validus(C. validus) leaves and flowers. Methods: A total of 300 g of fresh or dry(leaves and flowers) of C. validus were cut into small pieces and subjected to hydro-distillation method for approximately 5 h using the Clevenger apparatus. The extracted essential oils were then used for testing the anti-inflammatory activity. The anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated by using egg-albumin induced paw edema. Results: The extracted oils had the following yields 2.2% for fresh leaves, 2.0% for dry leaves and 2.4% v/w for dry flowers. GCMS results revealed that the oils contained artemisia ketone(37.5%), linalool(3.2%-29.6%), northujane(4.4%-16.8%), verbenone(13.5%), naphthalene(1.7%-9.6%), δ-cadinene(0.5%-8.1%), hedycaryol(5.4%-7.6%) and α-eudesmol(6.5%-6.7%) as the major constituents. C. validus essential oils showed significant(P<0.05) anti-inflammatory effects from the first 30 min after albumin injection compared to aspirin which had a later onset of effect. Conclusions: The findings of this study show that the essential oil extracted from C. validus fresh or dry leaves and flowers have anti-inflammatory properties; that might be associated with the major components and the minor components found in the essential oils.Pamela Rungqu Opeoluwa Oyedeji Benedicta Nkeh-Chungag Sandile Songca Oluwatobi Oluwafemi Adebola Oyedeji 2016Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2016,9,5:1

9Effects of Broussonetia papyrifera invasion and land use on vegetation characteristics in a tropical forest of Ghana显示文摘The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of Broussonetia papyrifera(paper mulberry)invasion and land use on the floristic composition of a dry semideciduous forest in Ghana.Forty-five plots(25 m×25 m each),distributed among three land uses-selectively logged(SL);abandoned farmlands(AF);and an undisturbed reference(RF)-were surveyed. Results showed lower tree species richness(S),diversity(H’),evenness(S)and basal area(BA)in the SL(46,0.78,0.32 and 269.12 m2 ha-1,respectively)and AF(40,0.53,0.45,and 131.16 m^2 ha^-1)sites compared to the RF site(79,2.66,0.87,963.72 m^2 ha^-1).Similar patterns were found at the shrub layer, but no differences were observed at the herb layer.Non-metric multidimensional scaling ordination revealed distinct species composition among the land uses. The two disturbed habitats,SL and AF,were associated with increased B.papyrifera invasion particularly in the overstory, with importance value index and mean relative density of 45 and 65.03%,and 42 and 53.29%,correspondingly.However,the species was only sparsely represented in the RF site.Tree density of B.papyrifera correlated negatively with H’,S,E,BA,and native tree density and richness. These findings highlight the strong link between human land use(i.e.,logging and slash-andburn farming),invasion, and vegetation characteristics, and suggest the need to limit these disturbances to conserve biodiversity within tropical forest ecosystems.David M.Adigbli Alexander K.Anning James K.Adomako Benedicta Y.Fosu-Mensah 2019Journal of Forestry Research2019,30,4:0
