| 1 | Prevalence and associated factors of hospitalization for dysglycemia among elderly type 2 diabetes patients: A nationwide study显示文摘BACKGROUND The prevalence of older individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is increasing due to the aging population and improved medical care. These patients are very susceptible to disease and treatment-related hospitalizations, resulting in higher health care costs, morbidity, and decreased quality of life. However, data of treatment-related complications, especially dysglycemiarelated hospitalizations, are lacking. AIM To assess the prevalence and associated factors for dysglycemia-related hospitalizations among elderly diabetic patients in Thailand using nationwide patient sample. METHODS T2DM patients aged ≥ 65 years who received medical care at public hospitals in Thailand in the year 2014 were included. The prevalence of hospitalization due to dysglycemia within one year was examined. Multivariable logistic regression was performed to assess the independent factors associated with hospitalization due to hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia RESULTS A total of 11404 elderly T2DM patients were enrolled in this study. The mean age was 72.9 ± 5.5 years. The prevalence of hospital admissions due to diabetic ketoacidosis, hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state, hyperglycemic dehydration syndrome, and hypoglycemia among elderly T2DM patients in the year 2014 was 0.1%, 0.1%, 1.7% and 3.1%, respectively. Increased hospitalization due to hypoglycemia was associated with older age, female sex, had hypertension, dementia, lower body mass index, elevated hemoglobin A1C (HbA1C), decreased kidney function, insulin use. Increased hospitalization due to hyperglycemia was associated with dementia, depression, lower body mass index, elevated HbA1C, and insulin use. CONCLUSION The prevalence of dysglycemia-related hospitalization in elderly T2DM patients in Thailand was 4.9%. | 6 | Modeling vaccination strategies with limited early COVID-19 vaccine access in low-and middle-income countries:A case study of Thailand显示文摘Low-and middle-income countries faced significant challenges in accessing COVID-19 vaccines during the early stages of the pandemic.In this study,we utilized an agestructured modeling approach to examine the implications of various vaccination strategies,vaccine prioritization,and vaccine rollout speeds in Thailand,an upper-middleincome country experiencing vaccine shortages during the early stages of the pandemic.The model directly compares the effectiveness of several vaccination strategies,including the heterologous vaccination where CoronaVac(CV)vaccine was administered as the first dose,followed by ChAdOx1 nCoV-19(AZ)vaccine as the second dose,under varying disease transmission dynamics.We found that the traditional AZ homologous vaccination was more effective than the CV homologous vaccination,regardless of disease transmission dynamics.However,combining CV and AZ vaccines via either parallel homologous or heterologous vaccinations was more effective than relying solely on AZ homologous vaccination.Additionally,prioritizing vaccination for the elderly aged 60 years and above was the most effective way to reduce mortality when community transmission is wellcontrolled.On the other hand,prioritizing workers aged 20e59 was most effective in lowering COVID-19 cases,irrespective of the transmission dynamics.Lastly,despite the vaccine prioritization strategy,rapid vaccine rollout speeds were crucial in reducing COVID-19 infections and deaths.These findings suggested that in low-and middle-income countries where early access to high-efficacy vaccines might be limited,obtaining any accessible vaccines as early as possible and using them in parallel with other higherefficacy vaccines might be a better strategy than waiting for and relying solely on higher-efficacy vaccines. | Suparinthon Anupong Tanakorn Chantanasaro Chaiwat Wilasang Natcha CJitsuk Chayanin Sararat Kan Sornbundit Busara Pattanasiri Dhammika Leshan Wannigama Mohan Amarasiri Sudarat Chadsuthi Charin Modchang | 2023 | Infectious Disease Modelling2023,8,4: | 0 |
| 7 | Molecular characterization of basidiomycetes associated with the decayed mangrove tree Xylocarpus granatum in Thailand显示文摘This study reports the frequency of decay(stem/butt rot)of Xylocarpus granatum trees at Hat Khanom-Mu Ko Thale Tai National Park,Nakhonsithammarat province,and other locations in Thailand,and the identification of purported causal basidiomycetes based on morphological and molecular analyses.Four survey plots at Hat KhanomMu Ko Thale Tai National Park were established and the incidence of butt rot determined.Percentage stem/butt rot incidence of X.granatum trees varied from 40.9 to 94.4%with an average of 85.5%along all four Plots.Trees in Plot 2 supported the heaviest incidence rate(94.4%),with the lowest rate in Plot 3(40.9%).Ninety-two basidiomes were collected,and 46 fungal strains(50%)isolated into axenic culture,the majority associated with tree roots(68.5%of all collections)with 31.5%from the tree trunks.Molecular results,based on LSU and ITS1,2,5.8 S rDNA analyses,confirmed that all samples belonged to the poroid genus Fulvifomes in the Hymenochaetaceae within the Hymenochaetales,Basidiomycota.The 43 specimens sequenced grouped into three clades;one clade comprised specimens isolated from only the trunks and branches(14 strains),while the remainders were from roots(29 strains)and shown to be salt tolerant.The stem/butt rot strains formed unique phylotypes which did not group with other known Fulvifomes species. | Jariya Sakayaroj Sita Preedanon Satinee Suetrong Anupong Klaysuban E.B.Gareth Jones Tsutomu Hattori | 2012 | Fungal Diversity2012,,5: | 0 |
