1Real time endoscopic ultrasound elastography and strain ratio in the diagnosis of solid pancreatic lesions显示文摘AIM To evaluate the accuracy of the elastography score combined to the strain ratio in the diagnosis of solid pancreatic lesions(SPL). METHODS A total of 172 patients with SPL identified by endoscopic ultrasound were enrolled in the study to evaluate the efficacy of elastography and strain ratio in differentiating malignant from benign lesions. The semi quantitative score of elastography was represented by the strain ratio method. Two areas were selected, area(A) representing the region of interest and area(B) representing the normal area. Area(B) was then divided by area(A). Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value(PPV), negative predictive value(NPV), and accuracy were calculated by comparing diagnoses made by elastography, strain ratio and final diagnoses.RESULTS SPL were shown to be benign in 49 patients and malignant in 123 patients. Elastography alone had a sensitivity of 99%, a specificity of 63%, and an accuracy of 88%, a PPV of 87% and an NPV of 96%. The best cut-off level of strain ratio to obtain the maximal area under the curve was 7.8 with a sensitivity of 92%, specificity of 77%, PPV of 91%, NPV of 80% and an accuracy of 88%. Another estimated cut off strain ratio level of 3.8 had a higher sensitivity of 99% and NPV of 96%, but with less specificity, PPV and accuracy 53%, 84% and 86%, respectively. Adding both elastography to strain ratio resulted in a sensitivity of 98%, specificity of 77%, PPV of 91%, NPV of 95% and accuracy of 92% for the diagnosis of SPL. 2Corneal sensitivity,ocular surface health and tear film stability after punctal plug therapy of aqueous deficient dry eye显示文摘·AIM: To evaluate the effect of punctal occlusion using thermosensitive(smart plug) versus silicone plug for management of aqueous deficient dry eye on cornea sensitivity, ocular surface health and tear film stability.·METHODS: A comparative prospective interventiona case study included 45 patients with bilateral severe form of aqueous deficient dry eye. In each patient, the smar plug was inserted in the lower punctum of the right eye which was considered as study group 1 and silicone plug was inserted in the lower punctum of the left eye o the same patient which was considered as study group2. All patients were subjected to careful history taking and questionnaire for subjective assessment of severity of symptoms. Corneal sensitivity, corneal fluorescein rose bengal staining, Schirmer's I test, tear film break up time and conjunctival impression cytology were performed pre and 1, 3 and 6mo post plug insertion.·RESULTS: A statistically significant improvement in subjective and objective manifestations occurred following treatment with both types of plugs(P <0.01)The thermosensitive plug caused significant overal improvement, decrease in frequency of application o tear substitutes and improvement of conjunctiva impression cytology parameters in the inserted side(P <0.01). Canaliculitis was reported in two eyes(4.4% following punctal occlusion using thermosensitive plug(study group 1). Spontaneous plug loss occurred in 21eyes(46.6%) in the silicone plug group(study group 2).·CONCLUSION: Improvement of subjective and objective manifestations of aqueous deficient dry eye occurs following punctal plug occlusion. 3Flavonoid chemical composition and antidiabetic potential of Brachychiton acerifolius leaves extract显示文摘Objective:To evaluate Brachychiton acerifolius leaf extracts as antidiabetic potential agent and to identify the main active constituents using bioactivity guided fractionation.Methods:In vitro antioxidant activity was evaluated for B.acerifolius different extracts using DPPH assay and vitamin C as control.Antidiabetic activity was then determined using STZ-induced rats treated daily with ethyl acetate and 70% ethanol leaf extracts for4 weeks at a dose of 200 g/kg body weight against gliclazide reference drug.Blood glucose,a-amylase,lipid profile,liver function enzymes and oxidative stress markers were assessed along with histopathological study for liver and pancreatic tissues.Isolation and structural elucidation of active compounds were made using Diaion and Sephadex followed by spectral analyses.Results:The results indicated that ethyl acetate and ethanol leaf extracts exhibited the strongest antioxidant activity compared to that of vitamin C(IC500.05,0.03 and 12 mg/m L,respectively).Both extracts showed potent anti-hyperglycemic activity evidenced by a significant decrease in serum glucose levels by 82.5% and 80.9% and a-amylase by45.2% and 53.6%,as compared with gliclazide 68% and 59.4%,respectively.Fractionation of ethanol extract resulted in the isolation of 9 flavonoids including apigenin-7-O-arhamnosyl(1/2)-b-D-glucuronide,apigenin-7-O-b-D-glucuronide,apigenin-7-O-b-Dglucoside and luteolin-7-O-b-D-glucuronide.Conclusions:This study highlights the potential use of B.acerifolius leaf extract enriched in flavones for the treatment of diabetes that would warrant further clinical trials investigation.Aisha Hussein Abou Zeid Mohamed Ali Farag Manal Abdel Aziz Hamed Zeinab Abdel Aziz Kandil Radwa Hassan El-Akad Hanaa Mohamed El-Rafie 2017Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2017,7,5:1

6Exploration of structural,optical,and photoluminescent properties of (1-x)NiCo_(2)O_(4)/xPbS nanocomposites for optoelectronic applications显示文摘The(1-x)NiCo_(2)O_(4)/x PbS(0≤x≤0.2)nanocomposite samples are synthesized using the hydrothermal and thermolysis procedures.The different phases developed in the obtained nanocomposite samples are accurately determined using the x-ray diffraction technique equipped with a line-detector.The percentage of the formed phases(NiCo_(2)O_(4)(NCO),PbS,PbSO_(4)),structural and microstructure parameters are determined using Rietveld quantitative phase analysis.The transmission electron microscope(TEM)images and Rietveld analysis reveal almost isotropic particle size in the nano range with a very narrow size distribution.The obtained phase percentage of PbS and PbSO4are smaller than nominated values(x)suggesting dissolving of some Pb and S ions into NCO which is then confirmed by the analysis of Fourier-transform infrared(FTIR)spectra of nanocomposite samples.The absorption spectra are modified upon doping NCO with PbS.The optical band gaps of the nanocomposites increase as the amount of PbS augments.The effect of alloying on extinction coefficient,refractive index,dielectric constant,optical conductivity,the intensity,and emitted color from the photoluminescence of the nanocomposite samples are also studied.The refractive index value of NCO and NCO-PbS nanocomposite samples exhibit normal dispersions.The photoluminescent measurements reveal that the NCO-PbS nanocomposites can emit a violet color.The improvement in the values of the nonlinear optical(NLO)parameters of pristine NCO at high frequencies or the nanocomposite samples at low frequencies,are made them used in NLO photonic devices.Zein K Heiba Mohamed Bakr Mohamed Noura M Farag Ali Badawi 2022Chinese Physics B2022,31,6:0
