1Effect of harmless acute pancreatitis score, red cell distribution width and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio on the mortality of patients with nontraumatic acute pancreatitis at the emergency department显示文摘BACKGROUND: Harmless acute pancreatitis score(HAPS), neutrophile/lymphocyte ratio and red blood cell distribution width(RDW) are used to determine the early prognosis of patients diagnosed with nontraumatic acute pancreatitis in the emergency department(ED).METHODS: Patients diagnosed with acute pancreatitis(K 85.9) in the ED according to the ICD10 coding during one year were included in the study. Patients with chronic pancreatitis and those who had missing data in their files were excluded from the study. Patients who did not have computed tomography(CT) in the ED were not included in the study.RESULTS: Ultimately, 322 patients were included in the study. The median age of the patients was 53.1(IQR=36–64). Of the patients, 68.1%(n=226) had etiological causes of the biliary tract. The mortality rate of these patients within the first 48 hours was 4.3%(n=14). In the logistic regression analysis performed by using Balthazar classification, HAPS score, RDW, neutrophile/lymphocyte ratio, age, diabetes mellitus and systolic blood pressure, the only independent variable in determining mortality was assigned as Balthazar classification(OR: 15; 95% CI: 3.5 to 64.4).CONCLUSIONS: HAPS, neutrophile/lymphocyte ratio and RDW were not effective in determining the mortality of nontraumatic acute pancreatitis cases within the first 48 hours. The only independent variable for determining the mortality was Balthazar classifi cation.Bedia Gülen Ertan Sonmez Serpil Yaylaci Mustafa Serinken Cenker Eken Ali Dur Figen Tunali Turkdogan ?zgür S?güt 2015World Journal of Emergency Medicine2015,6,1:13
2Molecular mechanism of different viruses associated with autoimmunity显示文摘Different kinds of human chronic diseases may develop the mechanism of autoimmune diseases. As a group of disorders,in the Western world autoimmunity possess as the third most prevalent morbidity and mortality. However, the mechanism of most autoimmune diseases is still under investigation.Viral infection is the principal factor involved in the induction of autoimmune diseases other than genetic factors and cytokine activity.Different mechanisms have been proposed by which viral infection might interrupt tolerance to self and induce autoimmune cascade which eventually leads to the destruction of a specific type of cell or a whole-body organ. The autoimmune attack can be understood through the different immune systems and other possible mechanisms such as molecular mimicry, bystander activation and epitope spreading. In addition to genetic and viral factors, other environmental factors are also involved including bacterial, parasitic and fungal infections. However, different animal models have been studied which provide strong evidence that viruses induced AIDs as well as accelerated and increased lesions in conditions where self-tolerance is interrupted. In the current review,we discussed the virus-induced autoimmunity and the molecular mechanism which is associated with this phenomenon. Here we also discussed the different viruses such as rubella virus, enteroviruses, measles virus, human T-lymphotropic virus type1,human cytomegalovirus, human herpes virus-6,Epstein-Barr virus, rotavirus and some other viruses which modulate the development of AIDs.Arslan Habib Zeeshan Ashraf Irfan Ullah Khan Amjad Ali Dominic Kwesi Quainoo Sajjad Ahmad Qamar Umutumwa Eric Principe Dur E Maknoon Razia 2022Life Research2022,5,1:0
3Insecticidal Potential of α-Pinene and β-Caryophyllene against Myzus persicae and Their Impacts on Gene Expression显示文摘Myzus persicae(M.persicae)is now considered a threat to agricultural crops due to economic losses.Numerous synthetic insecticides applied every year against M.persicae, are reported to be unsafe for environment, humans, and beneficial insects.Furthermore, several species of Myzus have been found to develop resistance due to over application of these insecticides. Therefore,it is required to find some novel insecticide that would be safe for the environment as well as for humans. In the current study, two major pure constituentsα-pinene andβ-caryophyllene were evaluated for their insecticidal potential against M.persicae using a fumigant toxicity assay.Furthermore, impact ofα-pinene andβ-caryophyllene on expression of five different genes,e.g.,HSP 60,FPPS I,OSD,TOL and ANT responsible for reproduction, dispersion, and growth of M.persicae has also been investigated. To perform fumigant toxicity assay, five different concentrations(3.5,4,4.5,5 and 6μL L−1)ofα-pinene andβ-caryophyllene were prepared.Lethal concentration(LC)was calculated, and gene expression studies were executed through qRT PCR at LC30 ofα-pinene andβ-caryophyllene.Both constituents demonstrated excellent fumigant toxicity effects against M.persicae at all five concentrations.However,α-pinene shows significantly better results(98%)as compared toβ-caryophyllene(80%)after 72 h at 6μL L−1 of dose. The highest upregulation in expression was demonstrated at LC30 dose ofα-pinene in five in three out of five genes understudy(TOL,ANT,and FPPS I).Conversely, two genes HSP 60 and OSD demonstrated downregulation at LC30 dose ofβ-caryophyllene.Conclusively,our results highlighted the promising insecticidal potential of both compoundsα-pinene andβ-caryophylleneby interfering with the reproduction and development related processes in M.persicae, allowing us to recommend the phytoconstituents under investigation as an ecofriendly alternative to synthetic insecticides.Talha Ali Chohan Tahir Ali Chohan Muhammad Zahid Mumtaz Muhammad Waqar Alam Salah ud Din Iqra Naseer Ayesha Riaz Tayyeba Naseem Areeba Iftikhar Dur ENajaf Ali Mubashir Hassan Hayssam M.Ali 2023Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2023,92,7:0
