13Speed vernalization to accelerate generation advance in winter cereal crops显示文摘There are many challenges facing the development of high-yielding,nutritious crops for future environments.One limiting factor is generation time,which prolongs research and plant breeding timelines.Recent advances in speed breeding protocols have dramatically reduced generation time for many short-day and long-day species by optimizing lightand temperature conditions during plant growth.However,winter crops with a vernalization requirement stillrequire upto 6-10weeks in low-temperature conditions before thetransition to reproductivedevelopment.Here,we tested a suite of environmental conditions and protocols to investigate whether the vernalization process can be accelerated.We identified a vernalization method consisting of exposing seeds at the soil surface to an extended photoperiod of 22 h day:2 h night at 10°C with transfer to speed breeding conditions that dramatically reduces generation time in both winter wheat(Triticum aestivum)and winter barley(Hordeum vulgare).Implementation of the speedvernalization protocolfollowed byspeedbreedingallowed the completion ofuptofivegenerations per yearforwinter wheat or barley,whereas only two generations can be typically completed under standard vernalization and plant growth conditions.The speed vernalization protocol developed in this study has great potential to accelerate biological research and breeding outcomes for winter crops.Jin-Kyung Cha Kathryn O'Connor Samir Alahmad Jong-Hee Lee Eric Dinglasan Hyeonjin Park So-Myeong Lee Dominique Hirsz Soon-Wook Kwon Youngho Kwon Kyeong-Min Kim Jong-Min Ko Lee T.Hickey Dongjin Shin Laura E.Dixon 2022Molecular Plant2022,15,8:1

15Morphology selective construction of β-cyclodextrin functionalized Fe3O4-Bi2WO6 nanocomposite with superior adsorptivity and visible-light-driven catalytic activity显示文摘Controlled growth of Bi2WO6 nanorods with exposed[001]facets and the fabrication of an Fe2O4-Bi2WO6 magnetic composite by a microwave-assisted polyol process,were achieved in this study.The adsorp-tivity and photocatalytic performance of the composite toward sunset yellow dye degradation were greatly enhanced by the β-cyclodextrin cavities on its surface,firmly anchored through a cetyltrimethylammonium bro-mide linkage.A series of examinations and characteriza-tions were carried out to determine the influence of various factors on the morphological modulation-photocatalytic behavior of the pure Bi2WO6 prior to final functionaliza-tion.Changing the pH of the precursor solution impacted the formation of 0D,2D,and 3D structures;however,the presence of hexamethylenetetramine surfactant induced the development of 1D nanorod structure.A reasonable crystal growth mechanism was proposed to elucidate the formation process.Conversely,the mechanism of the activity enhancement of β-cyclodextrin functionalized Fe2O4-Bi2WO6,compared to that of the non-functiona-lized samples,could be realized with the assistance of chemical trapping experiments on sunset yellow,and was confirmed on the colorless antibiotic(sulfamethoxazole).The high performance and durability of this composite can be attributed to the facet-dependent activity,large adsorp-tion capacity due to inclusion interactions,enhanced visible light absorption,and efficient charge separation.Maher Darwish Ali Mohammadi Navid Assi Samer Abuzerr Youssef Alahmad 2020Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering2020,14,4:1
