1Aqueous suspension of anise “Pimpinella anisum” protects rats against chemically induced gastric ulcers显示文摘AIM: To substantiate the claims of Unani and Arabian traditional medicine practitioners on the gastroprotective potential effect of a popular spice anise, 'Pimpinella anisum L.' on experimentally-induced gastric ulceration and secretion in rats. METHODS: Acute gastric ulceration in rats was produced by various noxious chemicals including 80% ethanol, 0.2 mol/L NaOH, 25% NaCl and indomethacin. Anti-secretory studies were undertaken using pylorus- ligated Shay rat technique. Levels of gastric non-protein sulfhydryls (NP-SH) and wall mucus were estimated and gastric tissue was also examined histologically. Anise aqueous suspension was used in two doses (250 and 500 mg/kg body weight) in all experiments. RESULTS: Anise significantly inhibited gastric mu- cosal damage induced by necrotizing agents and indomethacin. The anti-ulcer effect was further confirmed histologically. In pylorus-ligated Shay rats, anise suspension significantly reduced the basal gastric acid secretion, acidity and completely inhibited the rumenal ulceration. On the other hand, the suspension significantly replenished ethanol-induced depleted levels of gastric mucosal NP-SH and gastric wall mucus concentration. CONCLUSION: Anise aqueous suspension possesses significant cytoprotective and anti-ulcer activities against experimentally-induced gastric lesions. 3Gac fruit extracts ameliorate proliferation and modulate angiogenic markers of human retinal pigment epithelial cells under high glucose conditions显示文摘Objective: To investigate the impact of the extracts of Gac fruit parts(peel, pulp, seed, and aril) on the cell viability and angiogenesis markers of human retinal pigment epithelial(ARPE-19) cells under high glucose conditions. Methods: The effect of the extracts of Gac fruit peel, pulp, seed and aril on the ARPE-19 cells was determined using MTT viability assay, Trypan blue dye and morphological changes were observed using light microscopy. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent-based assay was performed to evaluate the effect of Gac fruit parts on the reactive oxygen species(ROS), vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and pigmented epithelium-derived factor(PEDF) secretions. Results: High glucose(HG) at 30 mmol/L increased ARPE-19 cell viability and ROS and VEGF secretions. While, the exposure of ARPE-19 cells in high glucose condition to Gac fruit extracts led to inhibition of cell viability, induced morphological changes, decreased ROS and VEGF secretions, and increased PEDF level. Gac pulp, seed, and aril at 1 000 μg/mL showed significant inhibition activities [(7.5 ± 5.1)%,(2.7 ± 0.5)%,(3.2 ± 1.1)%, respectively] against HG-induced ARPE-19 cell viability. The findings also demonstrated that Gac aril at 250 μg/mL significantly decreased ROS and VEGF levels [(40.6 ± 3.3) pg/mL,(107.4 ± 48.3) pg/mL, respectively] compared to ROS [(71.7 ± 2.9) pg/mL ] and VEGF [(606.9 ± 81.1) pg/mL] in HG untreated cells. Moreover, 250 μg/mL of Gac peel dramatically increased PEDF level [(18.2 ± 0.3) ng/mL] compared to that in HG untreated cells [(0.48 ± 0.39) ng/mL]. Conclusions: This study indicates that the extracts of Gac peel, pulp, seed and aril reduced cell viability, minimized ROS generations and showed angiogenic activities. 4Wear and mechanical characterization of Mg-Gr self-lubricating composite fabricated by mechanical alloying显示文摘In this research,the wear and mechanical responses of pure magnesium-graphite(Mg-Gr)composite have been investigated aiming to get the optimum composition of reinforcement.The composite materials were fabricated by mechanical alloying.The percentage of graphite reinforcement was chosen as 3,5,7 and 10 wt.%to identify its potential for self-lubricating property under dry sliding conditions.The mechanical properties including hardness,tensile strength and flexural strength of the composites and the base material were tested.The wear tests were conducted by using a pin-on-disc tribometer.The results show that the mechanical properties decrease with increasing graphite content as compared to that of the base material.The wear rate and average coefficient of friction decrease with the addition of graphite and was found to be minimum at 5 wt.%graphite reinforcement.The addition of 5 wt.%graphite in the composite exhibits superior wear properties as compared to that of the matrix material and other compositions of the Mg-Gr composites.Azzat Esam Abdulqader Al-maamari AKMAsif Iqbal Dewan Muhammad Nuruzzaman 2019Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2019,7,2:2

7Antioxidant compounds and capacities of Gac (Momordica cochinchinensis Spreng) fruits显示文摘Objective: To identify and determine the composition of antioxidant compounds, and to evaluate the antioxidant abilities of Gac fruit parts(peel, pulp, seed and aril) grown in Malaysia. Methods: LC-MS/MS was used for identification of antioxidant compounds and UV-Vis for estimation of the contents of phenolics, flavonoids, and carotenoids. Lycopene and β-carotene were quantified using high-performance liquid chromatography. DPPH(2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) and ferric reducing antioxidant power assays were employed to evaluate antioxidant capacities. Results: Phytochemicals were found amongst all the fruit parts. Notably, significant amounts of carotenoids [(107.4 ± 4.5),(85.7 ± 4.4),(110.6 ± 2.1) mg/100 g dry weight(DW)], and relatively high levels of both phenolics [(27.3 ± 1.7),(28.9 ± 2.4),(30.8 ± 2.7) mg/100 g DW] and flavonoids [(38.1 ± 2.2),(8.8 ± 1.3),(24.5 ± 3.3) mg/100 g DW] were found in the fruit's peel, pulp and aril, respectively. Seed part also showed a relatively high level of flavonoids [(18.1 ± 2.3) mg/100 g DW]. Lycopene and β-carotene were found to be significantly high(P < 0.05) in aril [(579.3 ± 22.7) and(621.0 ± 35.0) μg/g DW], followed by peel [(51.0 ± 7.5) and(210.0 ± 12.5) μg/g DW] and pulp [(37.6 ± 10.9) and(205.6 ± 22.1) μg/g DW)]. Antioxidant assays revealed that aril possessed the highest scavenging activity(IC_(50) = 865 μg/mL), while the peel possessed the highest ferric reducing power of 140 μmol FeSO4/μg. Conclusions: The current results demonstrate that Gac fruit grown in Malaysia is a rich source of phytochemicals, especially carotenoids, and possesses antioxidant activities. 8Attention-Based Bi-LSTM Model for Arabic Depression Classification显示文摘Depression is a common mental health issue that affects a large percentage of people all around the world.Usually,people who suffer from this mood disorder have issues such as low concentration,dementia,mood swings,and even suicide.A social media platform like Twitter allows people to communicate as well as share photos and videos that reflect their moods.Therefore,the analysis of social media content provides insight into individual moods,including depression.Several studies have been conducted on depression detection in English and less in Arabic.The detection of depression from Arabic social media lags behind due the complexity of Arabic language and the lack of resources and techniques available.In this study,we performed a depression analysis on Arabic social media content to understand the feelings of the users.A bidirectional long short-term memory(Bi-LSTM)with an attention mechanism is presented to learn important hidden features for depression detection successfully.The proposed deep learning model combines an attention mechanism with a Bi-LSTM to simultaneously focus on discriminative features and learn significant word weights that contribute highly to depression detection.In order to evaluate our model,we collected a Twitter dataset of approximately 6000 tweets.The data labelling was done by manually classifying tweets as depressed or not depressed.Experimental results showed that the proposed model outperformed state-of-the-art machine learning models in detecting depression.The attention-based BiLSTM model achieved 0.83%accuracy on the depression detection task.Abdulqader M.Almars 2022Computers, Materials & Continua2022,,5:1

10以L-亮氨酸为底物一步法生物合成α-酮异己酸显示文摘α-酮异己酸是重要的有机合成和药物合成中间体,在食品、医药和化工行业中应用广泛。目前,α-酮异己酸的合成以化学法为主,需要高成本的催化剂或特殊的起始结构,导致α-酮异己酸生产成本较高。首次在食品安全性菌株枯草芽孢杆菌(Bacillus subtilis)168中异源表达了普通变形杆菌(Proteus vulgaris)来源的L-氨基酸脱氨酶,以重组枯草芽孢杆菌作为全细胞催化剂、L-亮氨酸为底物实现了α-酮异己酸的一步法生物合成。其次,针对全细胞催化条件进行优化,最优条件(全细胞催化剂20 g/L、L-亮氨酸浓度100 mmol/L、反应温度45℃、pH 10.0、MgCl 2浓度5 mmol/L)下,转化24 h,可获得3.66 g/L的α-酮异己酸,且重复转化3次后,固定化细胞比游离细胞的再利用率提高了37.3%。该研究成功实现了以食品安全菌株B.subtilis 168为宿主一步法生物合成α-酮异己酸,为α-酮异己酸以及其他重要α-酮酸的工业化安全合成提供了新策略。AL-ADEEB Abdulqader 乔郅钠 徐美娟 杨套伟 张显 邵明龙 饶志明 2021食品与发酵工业2021,47,13:1

12An IoT-Based Energy Conservation Smart Classroom System显示文摘With the increase of energy consumption worldwide in several domains such as industry,education,and transportation,several technologies played an influential role in energy conservation such as the Internet of Things(IoT).In this article,we describe the design and implementation of an IoT-based energy conser-vation smart classroom system that contributes to energy conservation in the edu-cation domain.The proposed system not only allows the user to access and control IoT devices(e.g.,lights,projectors,and air conditions)in real-time,it also has the capability to aggregate the estimated energy consumption of an IoT device,the smart classroom,and the building based on the energy consumption and cost model that we propose.Moreover,the proposed model aggregates the estimated energy cost according to the Saudi Electricity Company(SEC)rates.Furthermore,the model aggregates in real-time the estimated energy conservation percentage and estimated money-saving percentage compared to data collected when the system wasn't used.The feasibility and benefits of our system have been validated on a real-world scenario which is a classroom in the college of computer science and engineering,Taibah University,Yanbu branch.The results of the experimental studies are promising in energy conservation and cost-saving when using our proposed system.Talal H.Noor El-Sayed Atlam Abdulqader M.Almars Ayman Noor Amer S.Malki 2023Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing2023,,3:0

15Natural regeneration of Pinus brutia Ten. in a recreational public forest in Zawita-Kurdistan region, Iraq显示文摘Zawita natural forest has recently has been subject to mass recreational activities during spring that have denuded large areas of the forest.It was thus essential to assess regeneration before designing optimizing strategies.To this end,we studied the overstory canopy and microhabitat conditions for recruitment of Pinus brutia Ten in 10 plots(20×25 m)on the southern aspects where the Zawita natural forest is still present.In total,1540 regenerating P.brutia were recorded,854 seedlings,597 saplings,and 89 trees.Seedlings and saplings were more frequent beyond the canopy than under the canopy of the parent trees.Regeneration requirements differed between seedlings and saplings.The probability of the occurrence of seedlings was negatively correlated with increasing litter depth and increasing soil compaction.The density of saplings only showed a positive significant correlation with increasing slope.The nearest neighbor index showed a trend toward a positive spatial association between understory shrubs with their neighboring seedlings at a mean distance of 1.6 m.Overall,the study highlighted the requirements for seedling regeneration as a relatively open canopy cover,a light understory litter layer,and noncompacted soils.These results are a step towards designing effective management and restoration programs.Hassan Muhamed Sami Youssef Ahmed Mustafa Hishyer Suliman Aree Abdulqader Hishyer Mohammed Richard Michalet 2019Journal of Forestry Research2019,30,5:0
