1Magnetotelluric investigation of lithospheric electrical structure beneath the Dharwar Craton in south India:Evidence for mantle suture and plume-continental interaction显示文摘Broad-band and long period magnetotelluric measurements made at 63 locations along -500 km long Chikmagalur-Kavali profile,that cut across the Dharwar craton (DC) and Eastern Ghat Mobile Belt (EGMB) in south India,is modelled to examine the lithosphere architecture of the cratonic domain and define tectonic boundaries.The 2-D resistivity model shows moderately conductive features that intersperse a highly resistive background of crystalline rocks and spatially connect to the exposed schist belts or granitic intrusions in the DC.These features are therefore interpreted as images of fossil pathways of the volcanic emplacements associated with the greenstone belt and granite suite formation exposed in the region.A near vertical conductive feature in the upper mantle under the Chitradurga Shear Zone represents the Archean suture between the western and eastern blocks of DC.Although thick (-200 km) cratonic (highly resistive) lithosphere is preserved,significant part of the cratonic lithosphere below the western DC is modified due to plume-continental lithosphere interactions during the CretaceouseTertiary period.A west-verging moderately conductive feature imaged beneath EGMB lithosphere is interpreted as the remnant of the Proterozoic collision process between the Indian land mass and East Antarctica.Thin (-120 km) lithosphere is seen below the EGMB,which form the exterior margin of the India shield subsequent to its separation from East Antarctica through rifting and opening of the Indian Ocean in the Cretaceous.D. 2喜马拉雅西北部逆冲带的地壳电性结构(英文)显示文摘印度板块北部地形起伏较大的喜马拉雅山地区由几个构造互异的地质单元组成,依地形高、低把喜马拉雅碰撞带分成低喜马拉雅和高喜马拉雅.为了研究与主要逆冲带(含主缝合带MCT和主边界带MBT)有关的地壳电性结构,沿Rohtangpass(海拔4000 m)到Mandi(海拔400 m)剖面进行了MT探测.通过对16个测点观测资料的分析和考虑地形的二维反演,获得了沿剖面的二维电性结构.电性结构显示,在Chail和主逆冲边界带下方,东西走向的缝合带突然转向北.在下喜马拉雅的Rampur区段的元古代基底为范围较大的高阻体,而浅部地壳被逆冲带分成向北倾的电导性块体和电阻性块体.Chail逆冲带东侧低喜马拉雅Rampur区段的推挤和它西侧的基底脊柱体导致主边界带及相关的逆冲带(Kangra拐角)向北转弯,Kangra拐角处的应力可能是由于西侧基底脊柱体进入到Kangra区引起的.K. 5Comparitive evaluation of different systems of medicines and the present scenario of chikungunya in Kerala显示文摘Objective:To identify the chikungunya outbreaks in both indoor and outdoor patients in some selected hospitals in our locality and the burden and magnitude of the disease,to compare different system of medicines(allopathic,Ayurvedic,homeopathy etc) and to explore the knowledge,attitude and practices of pharmacists and other health care professionals in the treatment of chikungunya.Methods:A six-month study was carried out.Detailed history was taken from the case history,personal interview of doctors and suspected cases.Personal data such as name age,sex,location,date of onset of illness,medical history,general/systemic examination features,drugs used(allopathy,Ayurveda,homeopathy,or traditional) for the treatment,etc.were noted down.A simple questionnaire was prepared and distributed to various doctors practicing various systems of medicines.Results:A total of 209 suspected cases were identified from July to December,2009.People in the age group of 20-40 years were more affected.The study revealed that females were more affected than males.The Grade-Ⅲ(58.73%) population was more prone to chikungunya than Grade-Ⅱ(38.75%) and Grade-Ⅰ(2.87%).It showed that fever,pain in muscles, and sleeping disturbances were the intense symptoms of chikungunya.Myocarditis and arthritis were concomitant diseases which worsened chikungunya symptoms.It also indicated the effective medicine for compliance is nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs(NSAIDS).Conclusions:From our study we found that in some places there is no proper documentation,even though there are proper guidelines framed by the relevant authorities.It can be concluded from the study that all the systems of medicine are equally important for the management of chikungunya.Additional effort in promoting the guidelines at local level and proper documentation helps to achieve the goal of curbing the chikungunya.It is high time to increase our effort and promote these messages at grassroot level which benefits the society/ community as a whole.Dilip C Saraswathi R Krishnan PN AK Azeem Raseena Abdul azeez Ramya Jaywin jose 2010Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,6:0
6Improved Heat FT Induction Leads to Earlier and More Prolific Flowering in Poplar显示文摘Trees have a long juvenile phase before reproductive onset.This makes their breeding and studying floral development difficult.Precocious flowering using FT technology has shown promise.However,transgenic FT overexpression has significant negative pleiotropic effects.Hence,there has been interest in inducible FT expression for flower induction.Previously reported heat inducible expression of FT in poplar successfully induced flowering.However,flowering was sporadic and took up to 6 weeks.Here we report improvements in the protocol,which led to faster and more prolific flowering.Specifically,we increased the once to three times daily heat treatment.The repeated heat inductive treatments led to nearly five times higher FT expression,compared to the single daily treatment.The highly increased FT expression led to significant acceleration and abundance of flowering.Abdul Azeez Victor Busov 2019Journal of Botanical Research2019,1,2:0
7Effect of Food Safety Training on Achieving Good Hygiene Practices in Restaurants in the Emirates of Dubai显示文摘Food safety,specifically in restaurants,is becoming a key public health priority because of the increased number of meals eaten outside the home.Foodborne illness prevention thus is a significant concern and a public health priority in the United Arab Emirates,particularly Dubai,because of the extensive tourism industry.The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of using demonstrations in training sessions to improve food safety knowledge and practices amongst food handlers.A descriptive and quantitative approach has been applied to collect the quantifiable information related to the research study.This has been further analyzed using the correlation tests to gather the required data.On comparison of the pre-test scores between the intervention and the control group,the t-test analysis showed significant difference in the level of food safety knowledge between the two groups.Pre-test score for the control group was 78.33 and post-test score was 104.66.In the case of the intervention group,pre-test score was 91.37 and post-test score was 130.75.The scores of food handlers’food safety practice for control group:pre-treatment score was 470 and post-treatment score was 646.For intervention group:pre-test score was 723 and post-test score was 1,056.The study concluded that training with demonstration techniques is an effective way of improving compliance with food safety guidelines.It has been understood that training helps in improving the performance of the employees while reducing the foodborne diseases and maintaining hygiene in the food.The study recommends every restaurant needs to provide regular trainings to the employees so that the restaurants can maintain hygiene and food safety practices.Abdul Azeez Mullattu Ebrahim 2020Journal of Agricultural Science and Technology(B)2020,10,6:0
8Estimating commute-travel implications of telecommuting by female employees in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia显示文摘A number of Malaysian cities are experiencing severe traffic congestion resulting from rapidly increasing vehicle ownership and usage, and the insufficient supply and inferior quality of public transport. The trend of congestion, frequent traffic accidents and air pollution is nowhere more prevalent in Kuala Lumpur where telecommuting is increasingly being perceived as a viable travel demand management strategy. Due to a number of unique travel characteristics of female commuters and the relatively large participation rate of women in the Malaysian work force, telecommuting by female employees seems a more relevant and potentially more crucial means of alleviating rush hour traffic in the Kuala Lumpur metropolitan area. The aim of this study is to estimate both the potential and actual travel implications of telecommuting by female employees. Therefore, this study is exploratory in nature as it mainly aims to explore the influence of the propagation of a phenomenon(i.e., telecommuting among female employees in Kuala Lumpur) on travel demand, and is thus mainly a quantitative research. The travel implications estimated in this paper include the reduction in commute trips, with a particular emphasis on the reduction in single occupancy vehicles(SOVs) entering the city of Kuala Lumpur during peak hours; vehicle and passenger-kilometers forgone; and time savings as a result of the elimination of the daily commute. The findings clearly show the potential of substantial reduction in vehicle and passenger-kilometers travelled, as well as potential time savings of more than 7000 employee-hours/day under an optimal adoption scenario.
