| 2 | Carbon isotopic composition of modern soil and paleosol as a response to vegetation change on the Chinese Loess Plateau显示文摘The relationship between the carbon isotopic composition of paleosols and paleovegetation on the Loess Plateau is still unclear. One of the main reasons is that we are short of knowledge about the characteristics of the carbon isotopic composition of modern soil in this area. A preliminary investigation of the carbon isotopic compositions of the modern soil and the loess/paleosol sequence on the Loess Plateau shows that the carbon isotopic composition of modern soil is consistent with the distribution of modern plants on the Loess Plateau, where the ecosystem is dominated by a mixture of C4 and C3 plants. | 3 | Overexpression of p27^(KIP1)induced cell cycle arrest in G_1 phase and subsequent apoptosis in HCC-9204 cell line显示文摘AIM We have previously reported that inducibleover-expression of Bak may prolong cell cycle inG1 phase and lead to apoptosis in HCC-9204 cells.This study is to investigate whether p27KIP1playsan important role in this process.METHODS In order to elucidate the exactfunction of p27KIP1in this process,a zinc induciblep27KIP1stable transfectant and transient p27KIP1-GFP fusion transfectant were constructed.Theeffects of inducible,p27KIP1on cell growth,cellcycle arrest and apoptosis were examined in themock,control pMD vector,and pMD-KIP1transfected HCC-9204 cells.RESULTS This p27KIP1-GFP transfectant maytransiently express the fusion gene.The cellgrowth was reduced by 35% at 48 h of p27KIP1induction with zinc treatment as determined bytrypan blue exclusion assay.These differencesremained the same after 72 h of p27KIP1expression,p27KIP1caused cell cycle arrest after24 h of induction,with 40% increase in G1population.Prolonged p27KIP1expression in thiscell line induced apoptotic cell death reflected byTUNEL assay.Fourty-eight h and 72 h of p27KIP1expression showed a characteristic DNA ladder onagarose gel electrophoresis. | 5 | Improvement of type 2 diabetes mellitus after gastric cancer surgery:Short-term outcome analysis after gastrectomy显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the effect of gastrectomy on diabetes control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and early gastric cancer.METHODS:Data from 64 patients with early gastric cancer and type 2 diabetes mellitus were prospectively collected.All patients underwent curative gastrectomy(36 subtotal gastrectomy with gastroduodenostomy,16subtotal gastrectomy with gastrojejunostomy,12 total gastrectomy)and their physical and laboratory data were evaluated before and 3,6 and 12 mo after surgery.RESULTS:Fasting blood glucose(FBS),HbA1c,insulin,C-peptide,and homeostasis model assessment-estimated insulin resistance were significantly improved 3mo after surgery,regardless of operation type,and the significant improvement in all measured values,except HbA1c,was sustained up to 12 mo postoperatively.Approximately 3.1%of patients stopped diabetes medication and had HbA1c<6.0%and FBS<126 mg/dL.54.7%of patients decreased their medication,and had reduced FBS or HbA1c.In multivariate analysis,good diabetic control was not associated with operation type,but was associated with diabetes duration.CONCLUSION:Diabetes improved in more than 50%of patients during the first year after gastric cancer surgery.The degree of diabetes control was related to diabetes duration. | Ji Yeong An Yoo Min Kim Min Ah Yun Byeong Hee Jeon Sung Hoon Noh | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,48: | 11 |

| 7 | Identification and primary genetic analysis of Arabidopsis stomatal mutants in response to multiple stresses显示文摘In response to variable environmental conditions, guard cells located in the leaf epidermis can integrate and cope with a multitude of complicated stimuli, thereby making stomata in an appro- priate state. However, many signaling components in guard cell signaling remain elusive. In our laboratory, a tool for non-invasive remote infrared thermal images was used to screen an ethyl methane sulfonate-mutagenized population for Arabidopsis stomatal response mutants under multiple stresses (ABA, H2O2, CO2, etc.). More than forty 'hot' or 'cold' mutants were isolated (above or below 0.5℃ in con- trast to normal plantlets). Identification and primary genetic analysis of these mutants show that they are monogenic recessive mutations and there exist distinct difference in stomata apertures compared to wild type. | 10 | Chondrogenesis mediates progression of ankylosing spondylitis through heterotopic ossification显示文摘Ankylosing spondylitis(AS)is chronic inflammatory arthritis with a progressive fusion of axial joints.Anti-inflammatory treatments such as anti-TNF-αantibody therapy suppress inflammation but do not effectively halt the progression of spine fusion in AS patients.Here we report that the autoimmune inflammation of AS generates a microenvironment that promotes chondrogenesis in spine ligaments as the process of spine fusion.Chondrocyte differentiation was observed in the ligaments of patients with earlystage AS,and cartilage formation was followed by calcification.Moreover,a large number of giant osteoclasts were found in the inflammatory environment of ligaments and on bony surfaces of calcified cartilage.Resorption activity by these giant osteoclasts generated marrow with high levels of active TGF-β,which induced new bone formation in the ligaments.Notably,no Osterix+osteoprogenitors were found in osteoclast resorption areas,indicating uncoupled bone resorption and formation.Even at the late and maturation stages,the uncoupled osteoclast resorption in bony interspinous ligament activates TGF-βto induce the progression of ossification in AS patients.Osteoclast resorption of calcified cartilage-initiated ossification in the progression of AS is a similar pathologic process of acquired heterotopic ossification(HO).Our finding of cartilage formation in the ligaments of AS patients revealed that the pathogenesis of spinal fusion is a process of HO and explained why anti-inflammatory treatments do not slow ankylosing once there is new bone formation in spinal soft tissues.Thus,inhibition of HO formation,such as osteoclast activity,cartilage formation,or TGF-βactivity could be a potential therapy for AS. | Tao Yu Jianguo Zhang Wei Zhu Xiao Wang Yun Bai Bin Feng Qianyu Zhuang Chang Han Shengru Wang Qimiao Hu Senbo An Mei Wan Shiwu Dong Jianzhong Xu Xisheng Weng Xu Cao | 2021 | Bone Research2021,9,2: | 7 |
| 11 | High-entropy(La_(0.2)Nd_(0.2)Sm_(0.2)Eu_(0.2)Gd_(0.2))_(2)Ce_(2)O_(7):A potential thermal barrier material with improved thermo-physical properties显示文摘High-entropy oxides(HEOs)are widely researched as potential materials for thermal barrier coatings(TBCs).However,the relatively low thermal expansion coefficient(TEC)of those materials severely restricts their practical application.In order to improve the poor thermal expansion property and further reduce the thermal conductivity,high-entropy(La_(0.2)Nd_(0.2)Sm_(0.2)Eu_(0.2)Gd_(0.2))_(2)Ce_(2)O_(7) is designed and synthesized in this work.The as-prepared multicomponent material is formed in a simple disordered fluorite structure due to the high-entropy stabilization effect.Notably,it exhibits a much higher TEC of approximately 12.0×10^(−6) K^(−1) compared with those of other high-entropy oxides reported in the field of TBCs.Besides,it presents prominent thermal insulation behavior with a low intrinsic thermal conductivity of 0.92 W·m^(−1)·K^(−1) at 1400℃,which can be explained by the existence of high concentration oxygen vacancies and highly disordered arrangement of multicomponent cations in the unique high-entropy configuration.Through high-temperature in-situ X-ray diffraction(XRD)measurement,this material shows excellent phase stability up to 1400℃.Benefiting from the solid solution strengthening effect,it shows a higher hardness of 8.72 GPa than the corresponding single component compounds.The superior thermo-physical performance above enables(La_(0.2)Nd_(0.2)Sm_(0.2)Eu_(0.2)Gd_(0.2))_(2)Ce_(2)O_(7) a promising TBC material. | Yun XUE Xiaoqin ZHAO Yulong AN Yijing WANG Meizhen GAO Huidi ZHOU Jianmin CHEN | 2022 | Journal of Advanced Ceramics2022,11,4: | 7 |
| 12 | Role of nitric oxide in the genotoxic response to chronic microcystin-LR exposure in human–hamster hybrid cells显示文摘Microcystin-LR(MC-LR) is the most abundant and toxic microcystin congener and has been classified as a potential human carcinogen(Group 2B) by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. However, the mechanisms underlying the genotoxic effects of MC-LR during chronic exposure are still poorly understood. In the present study, human–hamster hybrid(AL) cells were exposed to MC-LR for varying lengths of time to investigate the role of nitrogen radicals in MC-LR-induced genotoxicity. The mutagenic potential at the CD59 locus was more than 2-fold higher(p < 0.01) in ALcells exposed to a cytotoxic concentration(1 μmol/L) of MC-LR for 30 days than in untreated control cells, which was consistent with the formation of micronucleus. MC-LR caused a dose-dependent increase in nitric oxide(NO) production in treated cells. Moreover, this was blocked by concurrent treatment with the NO synthase inhibitor NG-methyl-L-arginine(L-NMMA), which suppressed MC-LRinduced mutations as well. The survival of mitochondrial DNA-depleted(ρ0) ALcells was markedly decreased by MC-LR treatment compared to that in ALcells, while the CD59 mutant fraction was unaltered. | 14 | Induction of Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress by Cadmium and Its Regulation on Nrf2 Signaling Pathway in Kidneys of Rats显示文摘Objective This study was conducted to investigate the regulation of endoplasmic reticulum stress on Nrf2 signaling pathway in the kidneys of rats. Methods Rats were divided into twelve groups of six animals each. Some groups were pre-administered with bacitracin or tauroursodeoxycholic acid(TUDCA), and all of them were treated with 5-20 μmol/kg cadmium(Cd) for 48 h. The oxidative stress levels were analyzed using kits. The mRNA and protein expression levels of endoplasmic reticulum stress-related factors and Nrf2 signaling pathway-related factors were determined using RT-PCR and western blot. Results Cd exposure resulted in oxidative stress in the kidneys of rats and upregulated the expression of endoplasmic reticulum stress(ERS)-related factors and Nrf2 signaling pathway-related factors, especially at doses of 10 and 20 μmol/kg Cd, and the expression changes were particularly obvious. Moreover, after pretreatment with bacitracin, Cd upregulated the expression of ERS-related factors to a certain extent and, at higher doses, increased the mRNA expression of Nrf2. After pretreatment with TUDCA, Cd reduced the level of ERS to a certain extent; however, at these doses, there were no significant changes in the expression of Nrf2. Conclusion Cadmium can result in ERS and oxidative stress in the kidneys of rats, activate Nrf2, and upregulate the transcriptional expression of phase II detoxification enzymes under these experimental conditions. | 19 | The heterogeneity of islet autoantibodies and the progression of islet failure in type 1 diabetic patients显示文摘Type 1 diabetes mellitus is heterogeneous in many facets. The patients suffered from type 1 diabetes present several levels of islet function as well as variable number and type of islet-specific autoantibodies. This study was to investigate prevalence and heterogeneity of the islet autoantibodies and clinical phenotypes of type 1 diabetes mellitus; and also discussed the process of islet failure and its risk factors in Chinese type 1 diabetic patients. A total of 1,291 type 1 diabetic patients were enrolled in this study. Demographic information was collected. Laboratory tests including mixed-meal tolerance test, human leukocyte antigen alleles, hemoglobin A1 c, lipids, thyroid function and islet autoantibodies were conducted. The frequency of islet-specific autoantibody in newly diagnosed T1 DM patients(duration shorter than half year) was 73% in East China. According to binary logistic regressions, autoantibody positivity, longer duration and lower Body Mass Index were the risk factors of islet failure. As the disease developed, autoantibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase declined as well as the other two autoantibodies against zinc transporter 8 and islet antigen 2. The decrease of autoantibodies was positively correlated with aggressive beta cell destruction. Autoantibodies can facilitate the identification of classic T1 DM from other subtypes and predict the progression of islet failure.
