Inflammation, oxidative stress and renin angiotensin system in atherosclerosis显示文摘Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease associated with cardiovascular dysfunction including myocardial infarction, unstable angina, sudden cardiac death, stroke and peripheral thromboses. It has been predicted that atherosclerosis will be the primary cause of death in the world by 2020. Atherogenesis is initiated by endothelial injury due to oxidative stress associated with cardiovascular risk factors including diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cigarette smoking, dyslipidemia, obesity, and metabolic syndrome. The impairment of the endothelium associated with cardiovascular risk factors creates an imbalance between vasodilating and vasoconstricting factors, in particular, an increase in angiotensin Ⅱ(Ang Ⅱ) and a decrease in nitric oxide. The renin-angiotensin system(RAS), and its primary mediator Ang Ⅱ, also have a direct influence on the progression of the atherosclerotic process via effects on endothelial function, inflammation, fibrinolytic balance, and plaque stability. Anti-inflammatory agents [statins, secretory phospholipase A2 inhibitor, lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 inhibitor, 5-lipoxygenase activating protein, chemokine motif ligand-2, C-C chemokine motif receptor 2 pathway inhibitors, methotrexate, IL-1 pathway inhibitor and RAS inhibitors(angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors)], Ang Ⅱ receptor blockers and ranin inhibitors may slow inflammatory processes and disease progression. Several studies in human using anti-inflammatory agents and RAS inhibitors revealed vascular benefits and reduced progression of coronary atherosclerosis in patients with stable angina pectoris; decreased vascular inflammatory markers, improved common carotid intima-media thickness and plaque volume in patients with diagnosed atherosclerosis. Recent preclinical studies have demonstrated therapeutic efficacy of vitamin D analogs paricalcitol in Apo E-deficient atherosclerotic mice. | Kazim Husain Wilfredo Hernandez Rais A Ansari Leon Ferder | 2015 | World Journal of Biological Chemistry2015,6,3: | 84
Role of microRNAs in translation regulation and cancer显示文摘MicroRNAs(miRNAs) are pervasively expressed and regulate most biological functions. They function by modulating transcriptional and translational programs and therefore they orchestrate both physiological and pathological processes, such as development, cell differentiation, proliferation, apoptosis and tumor growth. miRNAs work as small guide molecules in RNA silencing, by negatively regulating the expression of several genes both at mRNA and protein level, by degrading their mRNA target and/or by silencing translation. One of the most recent advances in the field is the comprehension of their role in oncogenesis. The number of miRNA genes is increasing and an alteration in the level of miRNAs is involved in the initiation, progression and metastases formation of several tumors. Some tumor types show a distinct miRNA signature that distinguishes them from normal tissues and from other cancer types. Genetic and biochemical evidence supports the essential role of miRNAs in tumor development. Although the abnormal expression of miRNAs in cancer cells is a widely accepted phenomenon, the cause of this dysregulation is still unknown. Here, we discuss the biogenesis of miRNAs, focusing on the mechanisms by which they regulate protein synthesis. In addition we debate on their role in cancer, highlighting their potential to become therapeutic targets. | Stefania Oliveto Marilena Mancino Nicola Manfrini Stefano Biffo | 2017 | World Journal of Biological Chemistry2017,8,1: | 60
Drift and deposition of ultra-low altitude and low volume application in paddy field显示文摘Field trials were performed to evaluate various techniques for measuring spray deposition and aerial drift during spray application to paddy field. The application of a spraying agent containing the fluorescent dye Rhodamine-B was applied by an unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)which flew at a height of 5 m,a speed of 3 m/s,and the wind speed of 3 m/s.The results showed that because the downdraft produced by a helicopter rotor increased the penetrability of crops, there is a higher deposition on the upper layer and the under layer than the traditional spraying. The average deposition on the upper layer accounts for 28% of the total spraying, the deposition on the under layer accounts for 26% of the total spraying. The deposition on the under layer takes up 92.8% of the deposition on the upper layer.Droplets drift data showed that the drift of non-target area took up 12.9% of the total liquid spray. The 90% drifting droplets were located within a range of 8 m of the target area;the drift quantity was almost zero at a distance of 50 m away from the treated area. | Xue Xinyu Tu Kang Qin Weicai Yubin Lan Huihui Zhang | 2014 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2014,7,4: | 40
Effects of citrus tree-shape and spraying height of small unmanned aerial vehicle on droplet distribution显示文摘In order to explore the droplet penetration of spraying with unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)on citrus trees with different shapes, the tests were carried out at different working heights. The material was five years old Cocktail grapefruit(Citrus paradisi cv.Cocktail)grafted on Trafoliata(Poncirus trifoliata L.Raf.)and the type of UAV sprayer used was the 3W-LWS-Q60S.A solution of 300 times Ponceau 2R diluents liquid instead of pesticide was used for citrus fields spraying and the droplets were collected by paper cards.Droplets deposition parameters were extracted and analyzed using digital image processing after scanning the cards. The results showed that:1)For the trees with round head shape canopy, the droplet depositions of the upper, middle and lower layers had a significant difference at 0.05 level. The droplet deposition had the best effect when the working height was 1.0 m,where the average droplet deposition densities were 39.97 droplets/cm2 and the average droplet size was 0.30 mm,but the droplet coverage(3.19%)was lower than that at the working height of 1.5 m(4.27%).2)Under three different working heights of UAV,the tree with open center shape can obtain higher droplet deposition density at all three layers than that with the round head shape canopy. It was especially prominent when the working height was 1.0 m,as the middle layer increased by 49.92%.However,the higher range of droplet deposition density meant larger fluctuation and dispersion.3)The open center shape canopy and the 1.0 m working height obviously improved the droplet coverage rate and droplet density in the citrus plant. For these parameters of open center shape citrus tree, there was no obvious difference in the front and rear direction, but in the left and middle part of the tree crown, the difference reached a 0.05 significant level.Considering droplet deposition characteristics and the spray uniformity, the UAV performed better when working on open center shape plants at a 1.0 m working height. | Zhang Pan Deng Lie Lyu Qiang He Shaolan Yi Shilai Liu Yande Yu Yongxu Pan Haiyang | 2016 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2016,9,4: | 37

New insight in expression, transport, and secretion of brain-derived neurotrophic factor: Implications in brainrelated diseases显示文摘Brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF) attracts increasing attention from both research and clinical fields because of its important functions in the central nervous system. An adequate amount of BDNF is critical to develop and maintain normal neuronal circuits in the brain. Given that loss of BDNF function has beenreported in the brains of patients with neurodegenerative or psychiatric diseases, understanding basic properties of BDNF and associated intracellular processes is imperative. In this review, we revisit the gene structure, transcription, translation, transport and secretion mechanisms of BDNF. We also introduce implications of BDNF in several brain-related diseases including Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease, depression and schizophrenia. | Naoki Adachi Tadahiro Numakawa Misty Richards Shingo Nakajima Hiroshi Kunugi | 2014 | World Journal of Biological Chemistry2014,5,4: | 30
Recent development of unmanned aerial vehicle for plant protection in East Asia显示文摘Recently, the growing use of unmanned aerial vehicles(UAV)for pesticide application has been reported against a wide range of crops with promising results in East Asian countries such as Japan,South Korea and China. This UAV-based application technology for agrochemicals is considered as a high efficiency alternative to the conventional manual spray operations and a low-cost choice as compared to the classical manned aerial application. However, the technology adoption rate and the designed optimal sprayer suitable for drone application for small scale farm remains at the development stage in China and also in Japan. This paper reports the current status of drone pesticide application in China and makes comparisons with its neighbor countries Japan and South Korea in terms of different UAV platforms and their implementation in plant protection for different crops.Challenges and opportunities for future development of UAV-based pesticide application technology are also discussed. | He Xiongkui Jane Bonds Andreas Herbst Jan Langenakens | 2017 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2017,10,3: | 29
FoxO3a and disease progression显示文摘The Forkhead box O(FoxO) family has recently been highlighted as an important transcriptional regulator of crucial proteins associated with the many diverse functions of cells. So far, FoxO1, FoxO3 a, FoxO4 and FoxO6 proteins have been identified in humans. Although each FoxO family member has its own role, unlike the other FoxO families, FoxO3 a has been extensively studied because of its rather unique and pivotal regulation of cell proliferation, apoptosis, metabolism, stress management and longevity. FoxO3 a alteration is closely linked to the progression of several types of cancers, fibrosis and other types of diseases. In this review, we will examine the function of FoxO3 a in disease progression and also explore FoxO3a's regulatory mechanisms. We will also discuss FoxO3 a as a potential target for the treatment of several types of disease. | Richard Seonghun Nho Polla Hergert | 2014 | World Journal of Biological Chemistry2014,5,3: | 28
Numerical simulation and experimental verification on downwash air flow of six-rotor agricultural unmanned aerial vehicle in hover显示文摘Recently,multi-rotor unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)becomes more and more significantly irreplaceable in the field of plant protection against diseases, pests and weeds of crops. The easy takeoff and landing performance, hover function and high spraying efficiency of UAV are urgently required to spray pesticide for crop timely and effectively, especially in dispersed plots and hilly mountains. In such situations, the current researches about UAV spray application mainly focus on studying the influence of the UAV spraying parameters on the droplet deposition, such as operation height, operation velocity and wind velocity. The deposition and distribution of pesticide droplets on crops which depends on installation position of nozzle and airflow distribution characteristics of UAV are directly related to the control effect of pesticide and crop growth in different growth periods. As a preliminary step, this study focuses on the dynamic development law and distribution characteristics of the downwash air flow for the SLK-5 six-rotor agricultural UAV.Based on compressible Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS)equations with an RNG k-εturbulence model and dynamic mesh technology, the efficient three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics(CFD)method was established to analyze the flow field distribution characteristics of UAV in hover. Then the unsteady interaction flow field of the wing was investigated in detail. The downwash wind speed of the marked points for the SLK-5 UAV in hover was also tested by weather tracker. It was found that the maximum velocity value of the downwash flow was close to 10 m/s;the z-direction velocity was the main body of the wind velocity in the downwash airflow, and the comparison of the wind velocity experiment test and simulation showed that the relative error was less than 12%between the experimental and simulated values of the z-direction velocity at the marked points. Then the flow characteristics of the longitudinal and cross section were analyzed in detail, the results obtained can be used as a reference for drift and sedimentation studies for multi-rotor unmanned aerial vehicle. | Yang Fengbo Xue Xinyu Zhang Ling Sun Zhu | 2017 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2017,10,4: | 28
Development of single row automatic transplanting device for potted vegetable seedlings显示文摘In China, low degree of automation seriously affects the working efficiency and quality in vegetable transplanting. As one of the most important vegetables in China even in the world, tomato was taken as the research object in this study. An automatic single-row transplanting device was designed, based on the statistical analysis of the physical and mechanical properties of tomato seedlings of a typical variety.Based on the technology of mechatronics, the device integrated the functions of transporting seedling tray, automatic seedling extraction and mechanical planting. The kinematics orthogonality solution combined with the dynamic sequence solution method was used to optimize and analyze the kinematic parameters of the automatic seeding mechanism, and the“sickle”trajectory was obtained.According to the position and movement requirement for taking and dropping seedling, the mechanical conditions and the working parameters of key execution parts were obtained by using analytic drawing method to analyze the mechanical condition of seedling collecting mechanism. The transplanting experiment was conducted at room temperature of 25°C,and the age and moisture content of the seedlings were 40 d and 55%,respectively.The results showed that the highest success rate was 92.59%,and the lowest rate of leakage was 23.13%,when the transplanting frequency was 60 plants/min.The lowest success rate was 77.78%,and the highest rate of leakage was 38.75%,when transplanting frequency was 120 plants/min.When the transplanting frequency is between 60-90 plants/min,the device can meet the requirement of high speed transplanting for potted vegetable seedling. | Xin Jin Daoyi Li Hao Ma Jiangtao Ji Kaixuan Zhao Jing Pang | 2018 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2018,11,3: | 27
Effect of wind field below unmanned helicopter on droplet deposition distribution of aerial spraying显示文摘Wind field is one of the important factors affecting the distribution characteristics of aerial spraying droplet deposition. In order to reveal the impact mechanism of droplet deposition distribution by the wind field below agricultural unmanned helicopter rotor,in this study, the wind field distribution below uniaxial single-rotor electric unmanned helicopter rotor was measured by using a wireless wind speed sensor network measurement system for unmanned helicopter. The effects of wind field in three directions(X,Y,Z)below the rotor on droplet deposition distribution were analyzed with the condition of aerial spraying droplet deposition in rice canopy, and the regression model was established via variance and regression analyses of experiment results. The results showed that, the wind field in Y direction had a significant effect on droplet deposition in effective spray area, the wind field in Z direction had an extremely significant effect on droplet deposition in effective spray area, and the corresponding significance(sig.)values were 0.011 and 0.000.Furthermore,the wind field in Z direction had a significant effect on the penetrability and uniformity of droplet deposition in effective spray area, the corresponding sig.values were 0.025 and 0.011 respectively. The wind speed in Y direction at the edge of effective spray area had a significant effect on droplet drift, the sig.value was 0.021.In addition, the correlation coefficient R of the regression model was 0.869 between droplet deposition in effective spray area and the wind speed in Y and Z directions, and 0.915 between the uniformity of droplet deposition in effective spray area and the maximum wind speed in Z direction. The result revealed the influencing mechanism of the wind field below the rotor of uniaxial single-rotor electric unmanned helicopter on the distribution of aerial spraying droplet deposition. The results can provide guidance for the actual production application of aerial spraying to reduce liquid drift and improve the utilization rate of pesticide. | Chen Shengde Yubin Lan Li Jiyu Zhou Zhiyan Liu Aimin Mao Yuedong | 2017 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2017,10,3: | 25
Performances evaluation of four typical unmanned aerial vehicles used for pesticide application in China显示文摘In recent years, unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)for plant protection have achieved rapid development in China. In order to test and evaluate the performances of pesticides application and development status of UAVs in China, four typical UAV models were selected to test the spraying coverage, penetrability, droplets density and the work efficiency. The results showed that the deposition and spraying liquid coverage were inconsistent both in lateral and longitudinal direction.Under the condition of the similar amount of spray volume and operation parameters, the volume median diameter(VMD)of the droplet was negatively correlated with the coverage density. The failure of the UAVs for plant protection mainly took up on the blockage of nozzle, transfusion tube and the liquid pump. The failure rate of UAVs took up 3.73%-4.36%of the total working time. The operation of UAVs during ground service took up 50%of the total working time, the preparation work took up 10%,and the route planning took up around 10%,while net operation time only took up around 30%.On the whole, the high efficiency of UAV was not fully achieved;the daily operated area was not in a satisfactory level now.The spraying performances of UAVs still need further improvement. | Wang Shilin Song Jianli He Xiongkui Song Le Wang Xiaonan Wang Changling Wang Zhichong Ling Yun | 2017 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2017,10,4: | 25
Development and prospect of unmanned aerial vehicle technologies for agricultural production management显示文摘Unmanned aerial vehicles have been developed and applied to support agricultural production management.Compared with piloted aircraft,an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV)can focus on small crop fields at lower flight altitudes than regular aircraft to perform site-specific farm management with higher precision. They can also“fill in the gap”in locations where fixed winged or rotary winged aircraft are not readily available. In agriculture,UAVs have primarily been developed and used for remote sensing and application of crop production and protection materials.Application of fertilizers and chemicals is frequently needed at specific times and locations for site-specific management.Routine monitoring of crop plant health is often required at very high resolution for accurate site-specific management as well. This paper presents an overview of research involving the development of UAV technology for agricultural production management.Technologies, systems and methods are examined and studied. The limitations of current UAVs for agricultural production management are discussed,as well as future needs and suggestions for development and application of the UAV technologies in agricultural production management. | Yanbo Huang Steven J.Thomson W.Clint Hoffmann Yubin Lan Bradley K.Fritz | 2013 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2013,6,3: | 22
Development of mechatronic driving system for seed meters equipped on conventional precision corn planter显示文摘Precision planters are more and more widely used for planting corn in China.Seed meters of conventional precision corn planters are usually driven by ground wheel and chain and sprocket system at present.Because of the slippage of ground wheels and vibration of chains, planting accuracy cannot be ensured, especially at higher forward speed. To improve the planting performance of precision planters,a mechatronic driving system was designed and its field working performance was evaluated in this research.A two-row pneumatic precision planter was modified to allow simultaneously using two different driving systems,i.e,with one row unit equipped with the newly designed mechatronic driving system and the other row unit equipped with conventional mechanical driving system, and used for planting at three forward speeds(9,11 and 12 km/h)on no-tillage and rotary-tillage lands. The distances between adjacent seeds in each plot were measured and the indices of uniformity in seed spacing, quality of feeding index(QFI),missing-seeding index and precision index were analyzed. With the average 4.70%increase of QFI and 3.54%decrease of missing-seeding index, the mechatronic driving system performed better than the mechanical driving system both on no-tillage and rotary-tillage lands at each forward speed. The values of QFI,missing-seeding index and precision index of the mechatronic driving system on rotary-tillage land are comparable to those on no-tillage land,by contrast, these indices of the mechanical driving system on rotary-tillage land are significantly worse than those on no-tillage land. The result indicates that the mechatronic driving system can eliminate the effect of ground wheel slippage on planting quality and maintain the uniformity of seed distribution.Although the QFI,missing-seeding index and precision index become worse with the increase of forward speed, with the worst values of QFI of 89.93%,missing-seeding index of 5.08%and precision index of 18.92%at the highest forward speed of 12 km/h,the mechatronic driving system can reduce the effect of forward speed on planting accuracy effectively. The result indicates that planters equipped with the mechatronic driving system are suitable for high speed planting. As compared to the mechanical driving system, the advantage of the mechatronic driving system is more noticeable especially when the forward speed is more than 11 km/h. | Yang Li He Xiantao Cui Tao Zhang Dongxing Shi Song Zhang Rui Wang Mantao | 2015 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2015,8,4: | 22
Biochemical changes in the injured brain显示文摘Brain metabolism is an energy intensive phenomenon involving a wide spectrum of chemical intermediaries. Various injury states have a detrimental effect on the biochemical processes involved in the homeostatic and electrophysiological properties of the brain. The biochemical markers of brain injury are a recent addition in the armamentarium of neuro-clinicians and are being increasingly used in the routine management of neuropathological entities such as traumatic brain injury, stroke, subarachnoid haemorrhage and intracranial space occupying lesions. These markers are increasingly being used in assessing severity as well as in predicting the prognostic course of neuro-pathological lesions. S-100 protein, neuron specific enolase, creatinine phosphokinase isoenzyme BB and myelin basic protein are some of the biochemical markers which have been proven to have prognostic and clinical value in the brain injury. While S-100, glial fibrillary acidic protein and ubiquitin C terminal hydrolase are early biomarkers of neuronal injury and have the potential to aid in clinical decisionmaking in the initial management of patients presenting with an acute neuronal crisis, the other biomarkers are of value in predicting long-term complications and prognosis in such patients. In recent times cerebral microdialysis has established itself as a novel way of monitoring brain tissue biochemical metabolites such as glucose, lactate, pyruvate, glutamate and glycerol while small non-coding RNAs have presented themselves as potential markers of brain injury for future. | Seelora Sahu Deb Sanjay Nag Amlan Swain Devi Prasad Samaddar | 2017 | World Journal of Biological Chemistry2017,8,1: | 22

RESULTS We followed 776 ICU patients for 4818 bed-days. The central line-associated bloodstream infection(CLABSI) rate was 6.5 per 1000 central line(CL)-days, the ventilator-associated pneumonia(VAP) rate was 44.3 per 1000 mechanical ventilator(MV)-days, and the catheterassociated urinary tract infection(CAUTI) rate was 5.7 per 1000 urinary catheter(UC)-days. CLABSI and CAUTI rates in our ICUs were similar to INICC rates [4.9(CLABSI) and 5.3(CAUTI)] and higher than NHSN rates [0.8(CLABSI) and 1.3(CAUTI)]- although device use ratios for CL and UC were higher than INICC and CDC/NSHN's ratios. By contrast, despite the VAP rate was higher than INICC(16.5) and NHSN's rates(1.1), MV DUR was lower in our ICUs. Resistance of A. baumannii to imipenem and meropenem was 75.0%, and of Pseudomonas aeruginosa to ciprofloxacin and piperacillin-tazobactam was higher than 72.7%, all them higher than CDC/NHSN rates. Excess length of stay was 7.4 d for patients with CLABSI, 4.8 for patients with VAP and 9.2 for patients CAUTI. Excess crude mortality in ICUs was 30.9% for CLABSI, 14.5% for VAP and 17.6% for CAUTI. CONCLUSION DA-HAI rates in our ICUs from Ecuador are higher than United States CDC/NSHN rates and similar to INICC international rates. | Estuardo Salgado Yepez Maria M Bovera Victor D Rosenthal Hugo A González Flores Leonardo Pazmino Francisco Valencia Nelly Alquinga Vanessa Ramirez Edgar Jara Miguel Lascano Veronica Delgado Cristian Cevallos Gasdali Santacruz Cristian Pelaéz Celso Zaruma Diego Barahona Pinto | 2017 | World Journal of Biological Chemistry2017,8,1: | 23 |
Simulation analysis and match experiment on negative and positive pressures of pneumatic precision metering device for rapeseed显示文摘Positive and negative pressures determine the performance of pneumatic precision metering device for rapeseed. In order to investigate the relationship between positive and negative pressures of nozzles, fluid models of chamber were developed to simulate the airflow, and the k-εturbulence model was conducted to capture the pressure and velocity of nozzles.Through these efforts linear models were achieved.Meanwhile, the three-factor factorial split-split experiment was designed with negative pressure, positive pressure and the rotating speeds varying from-1000 to-4500 Pa,50 to 250 Pa and 10 to 45 r/min,respectively.The mathematical models were developed through employing the stepwise regression method. The sequence of influential factors on the quality of feed index was positive pressure, negative pressure and rotating speed. To obtain the match regulation of negative and positive pressures with“good”performance, the ratio coefficient K of negative and positive pressures was introduced to build mathematical models.Models relating ratio coefficient K with positive pressure were fitted in different rotating speeds. The results showed that the ratio coefficient was matchedГ∈[f1(x),f2(x)]from the fitting equations with the rotating speed of 10-30 r/min;while the rotating speed has greater influence when it was 35-40 r/min and the setsΛ∈[g1(x),g2(x)]were achieved, where x∈[100,250].This study could be conducted to adjust the rotating speed of the pneumatic system to optimize the ideal performance of the seeder. | Yu Jiajia Liao Yitao Cong Jinling Yang Song Liao Qingxi | 2014 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2014,7,3: | 21

Regulation and function of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3显示文摘Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3(STAT3), a member of the STAT family, is a key regulator of many physiological and pathological processes. Significant progress has been made in understanding the transcriptional control, posttranslational modification, cellular localization and functional regulation of STAT3. STAT3 can translocate into the nucleus and bind to specific promoter sequences, thereby exerting transcriptional regulation. Recent studies have shown that STAT3 can also translocate into mitochondria, participating in aerobic respiration and apoptosis. In addition, STAT3 plays an important role in inflammation and tumorigenesis by regulating cell proliferation, differentiation and metabolism. Conditional knockout mouse models make it possible to study the physiological function of STAT3 in specific tissues and organs. This review summarizes the latest advances in the understanding of the expression, regulation and function of STAT3 in physiological and tumorigenic processes. | Qian-Rong Qi Zeng-Ming Yang | 2014 | World Journal of Biological Chemistry2014,5,2: | 20
