1Role of autophagy in the pathophysiology of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease:A controversial issue显示文摘Autophagy is a mechanism involved in cellular homeostasis under basal and stressed conditions delivering cytoplasmic content to the lysosomes for degradation to macronutrients.The potential role of autophagy in disease is increasingly recognised and investigated in the last decade.Nowadays it is commonly accepted that autophagy plays a role in the hepatic lipid metabolism.Hence,dysfunction of autophagy may be an underlying cause of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.However,controversy of the exact role of autophagy in the lipid metabolism exists:some publications report a lipolytic function of autophagy,whereas others claim a lipogenic function.This review aims to give an update of the present knowledge on autophagy in the hepatic lipid metabolism,hepatic insulin resistance,steatohepatitis and hepatic fibrogenesis.Wilhelmus J Kwanten Wim Martinet Peter P Michielsen Sven M Francque 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,23:17
2Challenges and prospects for consumer acceptance of cultured meat显示文摘Consumer acceptance of cultured meat is expected to depend on a wide diversity of determinants ranging from technologyrelated perceptions to product-specific expectations, and including wider contextual factors like media coverage, public involvement, and trust in science, policy and society. This paper discusses the case of cultured meat against this multitude of possible determinants shaping future consumer acceptance or rejection. The paper also presents insights from a primary exploratory study performed in April 2013 with consumers from Flanders(Belgium)(n=180). The concept of cultured meat was only known(unaided) by 13% of the study participants. After receiving basic information about what cultured meat is, participants expressed favorable expectations about the concept. Only 9% rejected the idea of trying cultured meat, while two thirds hesitated and about quarter indicated to be willing to try it. The provision of additional information about the environmental benefits of cultured meat compared to traditional meat resulted in 43% of the participants indicating to be willing to try this novel food, while another 51% indicated to be ‘maybe' willing to do so. Price and sensory expectations emerged as major obstacles. Consumers eating mostly vegetarian meals were less convinced that cultured meat might be healthy, suggesting that vegetarians may not be the ideal primary target group for this novel meat substitute. Although exploratory rather than conclusive, the findings generally underscore doubts among consumers about trying this product when it would become available, and therefore also the challenge for cultured meat to mimic traditional meat in terms of sensory quality at an affordable price in order to become acceptable for future consumers.Wim Verbeke Pierre Sans Ellen J Van Loo 2015Journal of Integrative Agriculture2015,14,2:10
3Diagnostic yield of small bowel capsule endoscopy depends on the small bowel transit time显示文摘AIM:To investigate whether the small bowel transit time(SBTT)influences the diagnostic yield of capsule endoscopy(CE).METHODS:Six hundred and ninety-one consecutive CE procedures collected in a database were analyzed.SBTT and CE findings were recorded.A running mean for the SBTT was calculated and correlated to the diagnostic yield with a Spearman's correlation test.Subgroup analyses were performed for the various indications for the procedure.RESULTS:There was a positive correlation between the diagnostic yield and SBTT(Spearman's rho 0.58,P <0.01).Positive correlations between diagnostic yield and SBTT were found for the indication obscure gastrointestinal bleeding(r=0.54,P<0.01),for polyposis and carcinoid combined(r=0.56,P<0.01)and for the other indications(r=0.90,P<0.01),but not for suspected Crohn's disease(r=-0.40).CONCLUSION:The diagnostic yield in small bowel capsule endoscopy is positively correlated with the small bowel transit time.This is true for all indications except for suspected Crohn's disease.Jessie Westerhof Jan J Koornstra Reinier A Hoedemaker Wim J Sluiter Jan H Kleibeuker Rinse K Weersma 2012World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,13:10
