| 2 | Formation history and protolith characteristics of granulite facies metamorphic rock in Central Cathaysia deduced from U-Pb and Lu-Hf isotopic studies of single zircon grains显示文摘The petrochemical as well as zircon U-Pb and Lu-Hf isotopic studies of granulite facies metamorphic rock from the Taoxi Group in eastern Nanling Range, Central Cathaysia indicate that its protolith is the sedimentary rock with low maturation index. The clastic materials are mostly from middle Neoproterozoic (~736 Ma) granitoid rocks with minor Neoarchaean and Paleoproterozoic rocks. The timing of this Neoproterozoic magmatism is in agreement with the second period of magmatism widespread surrounding the Yangtze Block. Hf isotopic data indicate that the Neoproterozoic granitoids resulted from the recycled Paleoproterozoic mantle-derived crustal materials. The sedimentary rock was deposited in Late Neoproterozoic Era, and carried into low crust in Early Paleozoic. The partial melting of the meta-sedimentary rock took place at about 480 Ma and subsequently granulite facies metamorphism occurred at ca. 443 Ma. The zircons forming during this time interval (Early Paleozoic) show large Hf isotope variations, and their -Hf(t) values increase from -13.2 to +2.36 with decreasing age, suggesting the injection of mantle-derived materials during partial melting and metamorphism processes in the Early Paleozoic. Calculation results show that this metamorphic rock, if evolved to Mesozoic, has similar isotopic composition to the nearby Mesozoic high Si peraluminous granites, implying that this kind of granulite facies metamorphic rock is probably the source material of some Mesozoic peraluminous granitoids in eastern Nanling Range. | YU Jinhai ZHOU Xinmin Y. | 3 | Variability in rainfall threshold for debris flow after the Chi-Chi earthquake in central Taiwan,China显示文摘The purpose of this study is to analyze variability in rainfall threshold for debris flow(critical rainfall for debris flow triggering) after the ML 7.3 Chi-Chi earthquake in central Taiwan in 1999. Two study sites with different geological conditions were surveyed in the earthquake area. Streambed surveys were conducted to continuously monitor debris flows between 1999 and 2006. During the 7-year study period,every debris flow event was identified,and the streambed characterized. Results show that the rainfall threshold for debris flow was remarkably lower just after the Chi-Chi Earthquake,but gradually recovered. To date,this rainfall threshold is still lower than the original level prior to the earthquake. This variability in rainfall threshold is closely related to the amount of sediment material in the initiation area of debris flow,which increased rapidly due to landslides resulting from the earthquake. With the increase in sediment material,the rainfall threshold was lowered severely during the first year following the Chi-Chi earthquake. However,heavy rainfalls mobilized the sediment material,causing debris flows and transporting sediment downstream. With the decrease in sediment material,the rainfall threshold recovered gradually over time. Furthermore,debris flows occurred only in the subbasins that had sufficient sediment material to cause significant movement. | 8 | GIS-based risk analysis of debris flow:an application in Sichuan,southwest China显示文摘Debris flow is a serious geologic hazard in China.It is estimated that nationally debris flows cause up to 2 billion RMB(250 million US$) in damages and 300-600 deaths and injuries annually.To mitigate debris flow hazards,it is necessary to map,model,and identify zones of debris flow hazards and vulnerability as to inform the local people about the potential risk with a geographic information system.This research presents a regional scale case study modeling debris flow risk(hazard and vulnerability) in Sichuan Province,Southwestern China.In this area,3,290 debris flows have been identified and the spatial-temporal distribution and activity characteristics of them have been documented.Based on the available meteorological data,a Digital Elevation Model with the rate of 1:250,000 and a regional geological map,the 24-hr rainfall threshold(y) for debris flow occurrence is closely related(significant at 99% confidence level) to the index(x) defined using a geology factor(rock hardness:a) and a topographical factor(channel gradient:d) where y = 21 + 10200 / x,in which x = 2.7 × ea + 1000 × d.The discipline is constructive in developing the rainfall threshold for debris flow activity in remote mountainous areas that lack data.For a given watershed,a four-level debris flow hazard map is developed by comparing the rainfall threshold to the design rainfall intensities with 50-,20-,and 5-year average recurrence intervals,respectively.The degree of debris flow vulnerability is determined by the watershed socio-economic conditions.A four-class debris flow risk map,at the final phase of the research,is generated by combining debris flow hazards and vulnerability.With the debris flow risk assessment,the Sichuan Province is classified into the slight,moderate,severe and very severe regions,which accounts for 36%,19%,20% and 25% of total area respectively. | B. | 11 | Parameters in wind-wave frequency spectra and their bearings on spectrum forms and growth显示文摘The spectrum variance m0, peak frequency ω0 and peakness factor p are expressed in terms of nondimensional fetch and duration by making use of relations which are derived through comparing and analyzing existing empirical formulas for the growth of significant wave height and period. The main features of spectrum growth as specified by these parameters agree with those of the JONS-WAP experiments. For given wind speed and fetch, the high frequency parts beyond the peaks of shallow water spectra almost coincide with that of the corresponding deep water spectrum, whereas the low frequency parts differ appreciably. The method developed in this paper predicts smaller significant wave height as well as smaller wave period for shallow water spectra in contrast to the theoretical result of Kitaigorodskii ef al, in which the peak frequency, and consequently the significant wave period, remains basically unchanged for different water depths. | 14 | Contamination by Organochlorine Pesticides in the Estuaries of Southeast China显示文摘Persistent organic pollutants(POPs) such as organochlorine pesticides are of global concern due to their widespread occurrence and persistence. This paper reports recent research studying the distribution and fate of organochlorine pesticides in the Jiulong River, the Minjiang River and the Pearl River estuaries in Southeast China. Eighteen organochlorine pesticides were extracted from water, pore water and sediment samples, followed by analysis by GC ECD. The results showed that the contamination levels were similar in these three estuaries. The levels of the total organochlorine pesticides in porewater were significantly higher than those in surface water, due to the high affinity of these hydrophobic compounds for sediment phase. Among the hexachlorocyclohexane(HCH) compounds, β HCH was found to be the most important isomer. The analysis of 1,1,1 trichloro 2,2 bis chlorophenyl ethane(DDT) and its metabolites showed that 1,1 dichloro 2[ o chlorophenyl] 2[ p chlorophenyl] ethylene(DDE) was dominant in the group. | Z. L. In addition to the field data collected in the Bohai Sea region and used in the previous papers, those obtained in the Huanghai Sea, the East China Sea and the South China Sea have been employed so that the improved spectra can be verified on a more extensive observational basis. Computed results agree with the observations well. Further comparisons have been made between the proposed spectra and the JONSWAP spectrum. Though the two types of spectrum are close to each other in form, the former shows, as a whole, better agreement with the observation than the latter. By introducing an improved relation between the peak-ness factor and significant wave steepness, the spectrum contains only significant wave height and period as parameters. | 18 | Temporal and Spatial Dynamics of Bacterial Community in the Rhizosphere of Soybean Genotypes Grown in a Black Soil显示文摘The dynamics of rhizosphere microbial communities is important for plant health and productivity, and can be influenced by soil type, plant species or genotype, and plant growth stage. A pot experiment was carried out to examine the dynamics of microbial communities in the rhizosphere of two soybean genotypes grown in a black soil in Northeast China with a long history of soybean cultivation. The two soybean genotypes, Beifeng 11 and Hai 9731, differing in productivity were grown in a mixture of black soil and siliceous sand. The bacterial communities were compared at three zone locations including rhizoplane, rhizosphere, and bulk soil at the third node (V3), early flowering (R1), and early pod (R3) stages using polymerase chain reaction-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE) of 16S rDNA. The results of principal component analyses (PCA) showed that the bacterial community structure changed with growth stage. Spatially, the bacterial communities in the rhizoplane and rhizosphere were significantly different from those in the bulk soil. Nevertheless, the bacterial communities in the rhizoplane were distinct from those in the rhizosphere at the V3 stage, while no obvious differences were found at the R1 and R3 stages. For the two genotypes, the bacterial community structure was similar at the V3 stage, but differed at the R1 and R3 stages. In other words, some bacterial populations became dominant and some others recessive at the two later stages, which contributed to the variation of the bacterial community between the two genotypes.
