1Ablation of gut microbiota alleviates obesity-induced hepatic steatosis and glucose intolerance by modulating bile acid metabolism in hamsters显示文摘Since metabolic process differs between humans and mice, studies were performed in hamsters, which are generally considered to be a more appropriate animal model for studies of obesityrelated metabolic disorders. The modulation of gut microbiota, bile acids and the farnesoid X receptor(FXR) axis is correlated with obesity-induced insulin resistance and hepatic steatosis in mice. However,the interactions among the gut microbiota, bile acids and FXR in metabolic disorders remained largely unexplored in hamsters. In the current study, hamsters fed a 60% high-fat diet(HFD) were administeredvehicle or an antibiotic cocktail by gavage twice a week for four weeks. Antibiotic treatment alleviated HFD-induced glucose intolerance, hepatic steatosis and inflammation accompanied with decreased hepatic lipogenesis and elevated thermogenesis in subcutaneous white adipose tissue(sWAT). In the livers of antibiotic-treated hamsters, cytochrome P450 family 7 subfamily B member 1(CYP7 B1) in the alternative bile acid synthesis pathway was upregulated, contributing to a more hydrophilic bile acid profile with increased tauro-β-muricholic acid(TβMCA). The intestinal FXR signaling was suppressed but remained unchanged in the liver. 2Eco-toxicity of petroleum hydrocarbon contaminated soil显示文摘Total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) contaminated soil samples were collected from Shengli Oilfield of China. Toxicity analysis was carried out based on earthworm acute toxicity, plant growth experiment and luminescent bacteria test. The soil was contaminated by-petroleum hydrogcarbons with TPH concentration of 10.57%. With lethal and sub-lethal rate as endpoint, earthworm test showed that the LD 50 (lethal dose 50%) values in 4 and 7 days were 1.45% and 1.37% respectively, and the inhibition rate of earthworm body weight increased with higher oil concentration. TPH pollution in the soil inhibited seed germination in both wheat and maize experiment when the concentration of petroleum was higher than 0.1%. The EC 50 (effective concentration 50%) for germination is 3.04% and 2.86% in maize and wheat, respectively. While lower value of EC 50 for root elongation was to be 1.11% and 1.64% in maize and wheat, respectively, suggesting higher sensitivity of root elongation on petroleum contamination in the soil. The EC 50 value in luminescent bacteria test was 0.47% for petroleum in the contaminated soil. 3Effect of probiotic treatment on cirrhotic patients with minimal hepatic encephalopathy: A meta-analysis显示文摘Background: Minimal hepatic encephalopathy(MHE) is an early and reversible form of hepatic encephalopathy. The documentations on the treatment with probiotics are inconsistent. The present meta-analysis was to verify the role of probiotics in the treatment of cirrhotic patients with MHE.Data sources: Seven electronic databases were searched for relevant randomized controlled trials(RCTs)published until July 2015. The effects of probiotics on serum ammonia, endotoxin, and MHE were evaluated.Results: A total of 14 RCTs(combined n = 1132) were included in the meta-analysis. When probiotics were compared to placebo or no treatment, probiotics were more likely to reduce values in the number connection test(NCT; week 4: MD =-30.25, 95% CI:-49.85 to-10.66), improve MHE(week 4: OR = 0.18,95% CI: 0.07 to 0.47; week 12: OR = 0.15, 95% CI: 0.07 to 0.32), and prevent overt HE progression(week4: OR = 0.22, 95% CI: 0.07 to 0.67) in patients with liver cirrhosis. When probiotics was compared to lactulose, probiotics tended to reduce serum ammonia levels(week 4: MD =-0.33 μmol/L, 95% CI:-5.39 to 4.74; week 8: MD = 6.22 μmol/L, 95% CI:-24.04 to 36.48), decrease NCT(week 8: MD = 3.93, 95% CI:-0.72 to 8.58), improve MHE(week 4: OR = 0.93, 95% CI: 0.45 to 1.91; week 12: OR = 0.73, 95% CI: 0.35 to 1.51) and prevent the development of overt HE(week 4: OR = 0.96, 95% CI: 0.17 to 5.44; week 12:OR = 2.7, 95% CI: 0.50 to 14.64) in patients with liver cirrhosis. 8Daclatasvir plus asunaprevir in treatment-na?ve patients with hepatitis C virus genotype 1b infection显示文摘AIM To assess daclatasvir plus asunaprevir(d UAL) in treatment-na?ve patients from China's Mainland, Russia and South Korea with hepatitis C virus(HCV) genotype 1 b infection. METHODS Patients were randomly assigned(3:1) to receive 24 wk of treatment with d UAL(daclatasvir 60 mg once daily and asunaprevir 100 mg twice daily) beginning on day 1 of the treatment period(immediate treatment arm) or following 12 wk of matching placebo(placebodeferred treatment arm). The primary endpoint was a comparison of sustained virologic response at posttreatment week 12(SVR12) compared with the historical SVR rate for peg-interferon plus ribavirin(70%) among patients in the immediate treatment arm. The first 12 wk of the study were blinded. Safety was assessed in d UAL-treated patients compared with placebo patients during the first 12 wk(doubleblind phase), and during 24 wk of d UAL in both arms combined.RESULTS In total, 207 patients were randomly assigned to immediate(n = 155) or placebo-deferred(n = 52) treatment. Most patients were Asian(86%), female(59%) and aged < 65 years(90%). Among them, 13% had cirrhosis, 32% had IL28 B non-CC genotypes and 53% had baseline HCV RNA levels of ≥ 6 million IU/m L. Among patients in the immediate treatment arm, SVR12 was achieved by 92%(95% confidence interval: 87.2-96.0), which was significantly higher than the historical comparator rate(70%). SVR12 was largely unaffected by cirrhosis(89%), age ≥ 65 years(92%), male sex(90%), baseline HCV RNA ≥ 6 million(89%) or IL28 B non-CC genotypes(96%), although SVR12 was higher among patients without(96%) than among those with(53%) baseline NS5 A resistanceassociated polymorphisms(at L31 or Y93 H). during the double-blind phase, aminotransferase elevations were more common among placebo recipients than among patients receiving d UAL. during 24 wk of d UAL therapy(combined arms), the most common adverse events(≥ 10%) were elevated alanine aminotransferase and upper respiratory tract infection; emergent grade 3-4 laboratory abnormalities were infrequently observed, and all grade 3-4 aminotransferase abnormalities(alanine aminotransferase, n = 9; aspartate transaminase, n = 6) reversed within 8-11 d. Two patients discontinued d UAL treatment; one due to aminotransferase elevations, nausea, and jaundice and the other due to a fatal adverse event unrelated to treatment. 10Chemical and optical properties of aerosols and their interrelationship in winter in the megacity Shanghai of China显示文摘A field campaign on air quality was carried out in Shanghai in winter of 2012. The concentrations of NO, NO2, NOx, SO2, CO, and PM2.5increased during haze formation. The average masses of SO42-, NO3-and NH4+were 10.3, 11.7 and 6.7 μg/m3 during the haze episodes, which exceeded the average(9.2, 7.9, and 3.4 μg/m3) of these components in the non-haze days. The mean values for the aerosol scattering coefficient(b sp), aerosol absorption coefficient(b ap) and single scattering albedo(SSA) were 288.7, 27.7 and0.91 Mm-1, respectively. A bi-peak distribution was observed for the mass concentrations of CO, NO, NO2, and NOx. More sulfate was produced during daytime than that in the evening due to photochemical reactions. The mass concentration of NH4+achieved a small peak at noontime. NO3-showed lower concentrations in the afternoon and higher concentrations in the early morning. There were obvious bi-peak diurnal patterns for b sp and b ap as well as SSA. b sp and b ap showed a positive correlation with PM2.5mass concentration.(NH4)2SO4, NH4NO3, organic mass, elemental carbon and coarse mass accounted for 21.7%, 19.3%, 31.0%, 9.3% and 12.3% of the total extinction coefficient during non-haze days, and 25.6%, 24.3%, 30.1%, 8.1% and 8.2% during hazy days. Organic matter was the largest contributor to light extinction. 15Droplets movement and deposition of an eight-rotor agricultural UAV in downwash flow field显示文摘The movement and deposition of the droplets sprayed by agricultural unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)are influenced by the complex downwash flow field of the rotors.Instead of conducting field experiment,a high speed particle image velocimetry(PIV)method was used to measure the movement and deposition of the droplets at different rotating speeds of rotors(1000-3000 r/min)or at different transverse injecting points(20-50 cm away from its nearby rotors)in the downwash flow field of an agricultural UAV with eight rotors and conical nozzles.The maximum speed and size of the high speed zone of the droplets were found greatly influenced by the downwash velocity.The initial spray angle of the nozzle declined with the increase of downwash flow speed.It was found that the downwash velocity could not only change the deposition zone of the droplets,but also influence their distribution.The increase of the downwash velocity would increase the deposition uniformity of the droplets.The nozzle position in the downwash flow field could also influence the deposition of the droplets.When the transverse distance between the nozzle and its nearby rotors increased,the relative deposition near the downwash flow of the rotors increased simultaneously.However,the distance between the deposition peak and the nozzle stayed constant.The initial spray angle of the nozzle was not influenced by the transverse distance between the nozzle and its nearby rotors.The research results could provide a theoretical basis and reference for the optimization of the spray application of multi-rotor UAV to minimize droplets deposition uncertainty.Tang Qing Zhang Ruirui Chen Liping Xu Min Yi Tongchuan Zhang Bin 2017International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2017,10,3:13
16Serum Uric Acid is Associated with the Predicted Risk of Prevalent Cardiovascular Disease in a Community-dwelling Population without Diabetes显示文摘Objective To examine the association between serum uric acid levels and cardiovascular disease risk among individuals without diabetes. Methods We investigated the association between serum uric acid levels and the risk of prevalent cardiometabolic diseases, 10-year Framingham risk for coronary heart disease, and 10-year risk for atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases(ASCVD) among 8,252 participants aged ≥ 40 years without diabetes from Jiading district, Shanghai, China. Results Body mass index, waist circumference, blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin, blood pressure, and serum lipids increased progressively across the sex-specific quartiles of uric acid(all P trend < 0.05). Compared with individuals in the lowest quartile, those in the higher quartiles had a significantly higher prevalence of obesity, hypertension, and dyslipidemia(all P trend < 0.05). A fully adjusted logistic regression analysis revealed that individuals in the highest quartile had an increased risk of predicted cardiovascular disease compared with those in the lowest quartile of uric acid. The multivariate adjusted odds ratios(ORs) [95% confidence intervals(CIs)] for the highest quartiles for high Framingham risk were 3.00(2.00-4.50) in men and 2.95(1.08-8.43) in women. The multivariate adjusted ORs(95% CIs) for the highest quartile for high ASCVD risk were 1.93(1.17-3.17) in men and 4.53(2.57-7.98) in women. 17Allergy-related Evidences in Relation to Serum IgE:Data from the China State Key Laboratory of Respiratory Disease,2008-2013显示文摘Objective To investigate the serum total IgE(tlgE) and specific IgE(slgE) to common allergens among allergic patients in Guangzhou,China.Methods 7 085 patients were examined for tlgE and slgE to 15 allergens,based on the protocols of reversed enzyme allergosorbent test and the sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.Results 3 758(53.04%) patients tested positive for tlgE,and 4 640(65.49%) for slgE.Der pteronyssinus,Der farinae,eggs,and cow's milk were the most common allergens leading to higher positive rates of slgE responses.Several peaks of sensitization were:Der pteronyssinus,Der farinae,and Blomia tropicalis at age 10-12;cow's milk at age below 3;eggs at age 4-6.The mean level and positive rate of tlgE tended to increase in subjects sensitized to more allergens.Sensitization to Der pteronyssinus(OR,1.6;P<0.05),Der farinae(OR,1.5;P<0.05),Blomia tropicalis(OR,1.4;P<0.05),Blattella germanica(OR,1.5;P<0.05),cow's milk(OR,1.3;P<0.05),and soy beans(OR,2.0;P<0.05) were independently correlated with allergy-related conditions in preliminary diagnosis.Conclusion The major allergens in Guangzhou include Der pteronyssinus,Der farinae,cow's milk,and eggs.Sensitization to these allergens appears to be predictors of allergy-related disorder.SUN Bao Qing CHEN De Hui ZHENG Pei Yan HUANG Hui Min LUO Wen Ting ZENG Guang Qiao ZHANG Xiao Wen 2014Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2014,27,7:11

20Effect of Morinda officinalis capsule on osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats显示文摘AIM:To explore the therapeutic effects of Morinda officinalis capsules(MOP) on osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats.METHOD:Six-month-old female Sprague–Dawley rats were induced for postmenopausal osteoporosis(PMOP) by bilateral ovariectomy and divided into seven groups as follows:sham-operated group,ovariectomized(OVX) control group,OVX treated with xianlinggubao(XLGB)(270 mg·kg-1·d-1),OVX treated with alendronate sodium(ALN)(3 mg·kg-1·d-1),and OVX treated with Morinda officinalis capsule(MOP) of graded doses(90,270 and 810 mg·kg-1·d-1) groups.Oral treatments were administered daily on the 4th week after ovariectomy and lasted for 12 weeks.The bone mineral density was evaluated by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry.The tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase(TRAP),alkaline phosphatase(AKP),and osteocalcin(OC) levels in the serum and plasma were determined by standard colorimetric and enzyme immunoassays methods.Bone biomechanical properties and morphological parameters were analyzed by three-point bending test and histomorphometry respectively.RESULTS:Morinda officinalis capsules at all doses were able to significantly prevent the OVX-induced loss of bone mass due to diminishing serum AKP and TRAP levels while elevating OC level in the plasma.Morinda officinalis capsules also enhanced the bone strength and prevented the deterioration of trabecular microarchitecture.CONCLUSION:Morinda officinalis capsules possess potent anti-osteoporotic activity in OVX rats which could be an effective treatment for postmenopausal osteoporosis.LI Ye Lü Shan-Shan TANG Gui-Ying HOU Min TANG Qing ZHANG Xiao-Na CHEN Wei-Hai CHEN Gang XUE Qiang ZHANG Cong-Cong ZHANG Ji-Fen CHEN Yi XU Xiao-Yu 2014Chinese Journal of Natural Medicines2014,12,3:10
