1Warpage and Shrinkage Optimization of Injection-Molded Plastic Spoon Parts for Biodegradable Polymers Using Taguchi, ANOVA and Artificial Neural Network Methods显示文摘In this study, it is attempted to give an insight into the injection processability of three self-prepared polymers from A to Z. This work presents material analysis, injection molding simulation, design of experiments alongside considering all interaction effects of controlling parameters carefully for green biodegradable polymeric systems, including polylactic acid(PLA), polylactic acid-thermoplastic polyurethane(PLA-TPU) and polylactic acid-thermoplastic starch(PLA-TPS). The experiments were carried out using injection molding simulation software Autodesk Moldflow?in order to minimize warpage and volumetric shrinkage for each of the mentioned systems. The analysis was conducted by changing five significant processing parameters, including coolant temperature, packing time, packing pressure, mold temperature and melt temperature. Taguchi's L27(35) orthogonal array was selected as an efficient method for design of simulations in order to consider the interaction effects of the parameters and reduce spurious simulations. Meanwhile, artificial neural network(ANN) was also used for pattern recognition and optimization through modifying the processing conditions. The Taguchi coupled analysis of variance(ANOVA) and ANN analysis resulted in definition of optimum levels for each factor by two completely different methods. According to the results, melting temperature, coolant temperature and packing time had significant influence on the shrinkage and warpage. The ANN optimal level selection for minimization of shrinkage and/or warpage is in good agreement with ANOVA optimal level selection results. 2Osteoporosis:A Silent Disease with Complex Genetic Contribution显示文摘Osteoporosis is the most common multifactorial metabolic bone disorder worldwide with a strong genetic component. In this review, the evidence for a genetic contribution to osteoporosis and related phenotypes is summarized alongside with methods used to identify osteoporosis susceptibility genes. The key biological pathways involved in the skeleton and bone development are discussed with a particular focus on master genes clustered in these pathways and their mode of action. Furthermore, the most studied single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs) analyzed for their importance as genetic markers of the disease are presented. New data generated by nextgeneration sequencing in conjunction with extensive meta-analyses should contribute to a better understanding of the genetic basis of osteoporosis and related phenotype variability. 4Hepatitis B virus genotypes in southwest Iran: Molecular, serological and clinical outcomes显示文摘AIM: To investigate the associations of hepatitis B virus (HBV) genotype with HBeAg and anti-HBe status, alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels and HBV-DNA detection in different groups of HBV-infected patients in southwest Iran. METHODS: A total of 89 HBsAg-positive serum samples were collected from the same number of patients. All sera were then investigated to determine HBV DNA and serological markers. For all the polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-positive samples, biochemical, histopathological assays and genotyping were also performed. RESULTS: Genotype D was the only type of HBV foundin different clinical forms of acute and chronic infections. There was a high prevalence of HBeAg-negative HBV- infected patients with chronic hepatitis (52.7%). Out of 55 patients with chronic hepatitis, seven (12.7%) were diagnosed with cirrhosis. A significant association between the presence of anti-HBe antibody and an increase in ALT level, among either HBeAg-negative (P = 0.01) or HBeAg-positive (P = 0.026) patients, was demonstrated. No significant differences were observed between the clinical outcomes of HBeAg-positive and -negative individuals (P = 0.24). CONCLUSION: Genotype D has been recognized as the only type of HBV found in different clinical forms of HBV infections, including cirrhosis, among the residents of southwest Iran. 7Metformin alleviates cholestasis-associated nephropathy through regulating oxidative stress and mitochondrial function显示文摘Background and aim:Cholestasis-associated renal injury or cholemic nephropathy(CN)is a serious clinical problem.Previous studies mentioned that oxidative stress and mitochondrial impairment play a role in CN.There is no specific pharmacological intervention for CN.Metformin is an anti-diabetic drug administered for decades.On the other hand,novel pharmacological properties have emerged for this drug.The effect of metformin on oxidative stress parameters has been well-recognized in different experimental models.It has also been found that metformin positively affected mitochondrial function.The current study aimed to evaluate the effects of metformin in an animal model of CN.Methods:Rats underwent bile duct ligation(BDL)and were treated with metformin(250 and 500 mg/kg)for 14 consecutive days.Two weeks after the BDL operations,urine,serum,and kidney samples were collected and analyzed.Results:Markers of oxidative stress,including reactive oxygen species(ROS)formation,lipid peroxida-tion,protein carbonylation,depleted antioxidant capacity,and decreased glutathione(GSH)levels were detected in BDL animals.Moreover,mitochondrial indices,including adenosine triphosphate(ATP)level,dehydrogenase activity,mitochondrial membrane potential,and mitochondrial permeability,were impaired in the kidney of cholestatic rats.Renal histopathological alterations in cholestatic animals included tubular degeneration and interstitial inflammation,cast formation,and fibrosis.It was found that metformin significantly alleviated oxidative stress and improved mitochondrial indices in the kidney of cholestatic rats.Tissue histopathological alterations were also mitigated in metformin-treated groups.Conclusions:Metformin could be a candidate for managing CN.The nephroprotective role of metformin is primarily associated with its effects on oxidative stress parameters and mitochondrial function.Mohammad Mehdi Ommati Hamidreza Mohammadi Khadijeh Mousavi Negar Azarpira Omid Farshad Reyhaneh Dehghani Asma Najibi Sedigheh Kamran Hossein Niknahad Reza Heidari 2021Liver Research2021,5,3:3

9Sciatic nerve injury alters the spatial arrangement of neurons and glial cells in the anterior horn of the spinal cord显示文摘The spatial arrangement of the cell is important and considered as underlying mechanism for mathematical modeling of cell to cell interaction.The ability of cells to take on the characteristics of other cells in an organism,it is important to understand the dynamical behavior of the cells.This method implements experimental parameters of the cell-cell interaction into the mathematical simulation of cell arrangement.The purpose of this research was to explore the three-dimensional spatial distribution of anterior horn cells in the rat spinal cord to examine differences after sciatic nerve injury.Sixteen Sprague-Dawley male rats were assigned to control and axotomy groups.Twelve weeks after surgery,the anterior horn was removed for first-and second-order stereological studies.Second-order stereological techniques were applied to estimate the pair correlation and cross-correlation functions using a dipole probe superimposed onto the spinal cord sections.The findings revealed 7% and 36% reductions in the mean volume and total number of motoneurons,respectively,and a25% increase in the neuroglial cell number in the axotomized rats compared to the control rats.In contrast,the anterior horn volume remained unchanged.The results also indicated a broader gap in the pair correlation curve for the motoneurons and neuroglial cells in the axotomized rats compared to the control rats.This finding shows a negative correlation for the distribution of motoneurons and neuroglial cells in the axotomized rats.The cross-correlation curve shows a negative correlation between the motoneurons and neuroglial cells in the axotomized rats.These findings suggest that cellular structural and functional changes after sciatic nerve injury lead to the alterations in the spatial arrangement of motoneurons and neuroglial cells,finally affecting the normal function of the central nervous system.The experimental protocol was reviewed and approved by the Animal Ethics Committee of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences(approval No.IR.SBMU.MSP.REC1395.375) on October 17,2016.Ali Rashidiani-Rashidabadi Mohammad Hassan Heidari Ensieh Sajadi Fatemeh Hejazi Fatemeh Fadaei Fathabady Yousef Sadeghi Abbas Aliaghaei Amir Raoofi Mohammad-Amin Abdollahifar Reza Mastery Farahni 2019Neural Regeneration Research2019,14,10:2
10Mitigation of cholestasis-associated hepatic and renal injury by edaravone treatment: Evaluation of its effects on oxidative stress and mitochondrial function显示文摘Background and aim:The liver is the primary organ affected by cholestasis,and complications such as renal injury,renal failure,and the need for renal transplantation are associated with cholestatic liver disease.There is substantial evidence indicating that reactive oxygen species(ROS)and mitochondrial impairment are fundamental mechanisms underlying cholestasis-induced hepatic and renal injury.Edaravone(EDV)is a potent radical scavenger and antioxidant that may prevent oxidative stress and improve impaired mitochondrial function in various diseases.This study was performed to evaluate the effects and mechanisms of action of EDV on hepatic and renal injury in an animal model of cholestasis.Methods:Rats subjected to bile duct ligation(BDL)were treated with EDV 1 or 10 mg/kg/day intraper-itoneally for 14 consecutive days.Biomarkers of oxidative stress and mitochondrial impairment in the liver and kidney were assessed in EDV-treated and untreated rats with cholestasis.Results:Significant increases in tissue ROS level,lipid peroxidation,protein carbonylation,and oxidized glutathione level were detected in rats subjected to BDL.Additionally,significant decreases in tissue glutathione level and antioxidant capacity were observed in the hepatic and renal tissues of rats with cholestasis.Markers of mitochondrial impairment,including mitochondrial depolarization,lipid perox-idation,mitochondrial permeabilization,depleted adenosine triphosphate content,and decreased de-hydrogenase activity,were also detected in rats subjected to BDL.Furthermore,portal inflammation,necrosis,and tissue fibrosis were detected in the liver and significant tubular atrophy and interstitial inflammation,as well as fibrotic lesions,were detected in the kidneys of rats with cholestasis.EDV treatment significantly mitigated cholestasis-associated hepatic and renal injury.Conclusions:The antioxidative properties of EDV and its positive effects on the indices of mitochondrial function may be critical factors contributing to protection against cholestasis-associated hepatic and renal injury.Mohammad Mehdi Ommati Hanie Attari Asma Siavashpour Marzieh Shafaghat Negar Azarpira Hasti Ghaffari Leila Moezi Reza Heidari 2021Liver Research2021,5,3:2

12Nanofibrous nerve conduits for repair of 30-mm-long sciatic nerve defects显示文摘It has been confirmed that nanofibrous poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) nerve conduit can promote peripheral nerve regeneration in rats. However, its efficiency in repair of over 30-mm-long sciatic nerve defects needs to be assessed. In this study, we used a nanofibrous poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) nerve conduit to bridge a 30-mm-long gap in the rat sciatic nerve. At 4 months after nerve conduit implantation, regenerated nerves were macroscopically observed and histologically assessed. In the nanofibrous graft, the rat sciatic nerve trunk had been reconstructed by restoration of nerve continuity and formation of myelinated nerve fiber. There were Schwann cells and glial cells in the regenerated nerves. Masson's trichrome staining showed that there were no pathological changes in the size and structure of gastrocnemius muscle cells on the operated side of rats. 13Effects of environmental factors on classification of loessderived soils and clay minerals variations, northern Iran显示文摘Land-use type under different topographic conditions and human activities affects soil development. We investigated the effects of land-use,topography and human activity on soil classification changes in the Toshan watershed in northern Iran.Seven representative pedons derived from loess parent materials were studied on different land-uses and topographic positions. The studied pedons in forest(FO) on backslopes and footslope were classified as Calcic Haploxeralfs and Typic Haploxeralfs, respectively. The soils in abandoned lands(AB) and orchards(OR), where formerly under natural forests, located on the shoulder and backslopes positions were classified as Calcic Haploxeralfs and Vertic Haploxeralfs, respectively.Well-developed argillic horizons as indicators for higher degrees of soil evolution were observed in more-stable areas under the natural forest or less disturbed areas. Clay lessivage through these soil profiles have led to formation of Typic or Calcic Haploxeralfs, while under croplands(CP) were classified as Typic Calcixerepts. Conversion of sloping deforested areas to CP along with inappropriate management have accelerated soil erosion, resulting in unstable conditions in which decalcification and formation of developed soils cannot occur. Paddy cultivation in flat areas has caused to reduced conditions and formation of Typic Haplaquepts.Because of unfavorable conditions for chemical weathering(e.g. lower water retention compared to more-stable areas) no vermiculite was detected in the CP. 14Lavender aromatherapy on anxiety and depression in patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome: a single-blind randomized clinical trial显示文摘Objective:In cardiovascular disease,a patient’s anxiety and depression can increase cardiac rehabilitation duration and recovery.Lavender aromatherapy as a non-pharmacological intervention effective in other contexts may be an efficient intervention to alleviating anxiety and depression in patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome(ACS).Methods:In this study,110 ACS patients were randomly assigned to two intervention and control groups.Inhalation of the lavender fragrance was prescribed for the intervention group and the drop of aromatic almond for the control group for 3 days.Results:The first-day anxiety and depression were significantly different in the two groups at 1 h and 9 h after the intervention.The’morning’s difference before the intervention was not significant,but it was substantial 1 h after the intervention.On the third morning of the intervention,this difference was confirmed.Conclusions:This study confirmed the effectiveness of lavender aromatherapy in reducing anxiety and depression in ACS patients.This’study’s results enable intensive care nurses to use aromatherapy with lavender oil as a non-pharmacological and cost-effective intervention to reduce their psychological tensions and increase patient satisfaction during hospitalization in the cardiac care units(CCU).Mohammad Nategh Mohammad Reza Heidari Abbas Ebadi Reza Norouzadeh Zahra Mohebbinia Bahman Aghaie 2022Frontiers of Nursing2022,9,2:1
