| 1 | Interaction Between Charge Characteristics and Cu^(2+) Adsorption-Desorption of Soils with Variable or Permanent Charge显示文摘Charge characteristics and Cu2+ adsorption-desorption of soils with variable charge (latosol) and per-manent charge (brown soil) and the relationship between them were studied by means of back-titration andadsorption equilibrium respectively. The amount of variable negative charge was much less in variable-chargesoil than in permanent-charge soil and increased with the pH in the system, but the opposite trend occurredin the points of zero charge (PZCs). The amount of Cu2+ ions sorbed by permanent-charge soil was morethan that by variable-charge soil and increased with the increase of Cu2+ concentration within a certainrange in the equilibrium solution. The amount of Cu2+ ions desorbed with KCl from permanent-chargesoil was more than that from variable-charge soil, but the amount of Cu2+ ions desorbed with de-ionizedwater from permanent-charge soil was extremely low whereas there was still a certain amount of desorptionfrom variable-charge soil. The increase of PZC of soils with variable or permanent charge varied with theincrement of Cu2+ ions added. | 2 | Alpha-2-macroglobulin as a radioprotective agent: a review显示文摘Radiation is an important modality in cancer treatment, and eighty percent of cancer patients need radiotherapy at some point during their clinical management. However, radiation-induced damage to normal tissues restricts the therapeutic doses of radiation that can be delivered to tumours and thereby limits the effectiveness of the treatment. The use of radioprotectors represents an obvious strategy to obtain better tumour control using a higher dose in radiotherapy. However, most of the synthetic radioprotective compounds studied have shown inadequate clinical efficacy owing to their inherent toxicity and high cost. Hence, the development of radioprotective agents with lower toxicity and an extended window of protection has attracted a great deal of attention, and the identification of alternative agents that are less toxic and highly effective is an absolute necessity. Recent studies have shown that alpha-2-macroglobulin(α2M) possesses radioprotective effects. α2M is a tetrameric, disulfide-rich plasma glycoprotein that functions as a nonselective inhibitor of different types of non-specific proteases and as a carrier of cytokines, growth factors, and hormones. α2M induces protein factors whose interplay underlies radioprotection, which supports the idea that α2M is the central effector of natural radioprotection in the rat. Pretreatment with α2M has also induced a significant reduction of irradiation-induced DNA damage and the complete restoration of liver and body weight. Mihailovi? et al. concluded that the radioprotection provided by α2M was in part mediated through cytoprotection of new blood cells produced in the bone marrow; these authors also indicated that an important aspect of the radioprotective effect of amifostine was the result of the induction of the endogenous cytoprotective capability of α2M. The radioprotective effects of α2M are possibly due to antioxidant, antifibrosis, and anti-inflammatory functions, as well as the maintenance of homeostasis, and enhancement of the DNA repair and cell recovery processes. This review is the first to summarise the observations and elucidate the possible mechanisms responsible for the beneficial effects of α2M. | 4 | Recent advances of vanadium-based cathode materials for zinc-ion batteries显示文摘Zn-ion batteries(ZIBs) have gained great attention as promising next-generation power sources, because of their low cost, enviable safety and high theoretical capacity. Recently, massive researches have been devoted to vanadium-based materials as cathodes in ZIBs, owing to their multiple valence states, competitive gravimetric energy density, but the capacity degradation, sluggish kinetics, low operating voltage hinder further optimization of their performance in ZIBs. This review summarizes recent progress to increase the interlayer spacing, structural stability, and the diffusion ability of the guest Zn ions, including the insertion of different ions, introduction of defects, design of diverse morphologies, the combination of other materials. We also focus on approaches to promoting the valuable performance of vanadiumbased cathodes, along with the related ongoing scientific challenges and limitations. | 6 | Comparison of the differentiation of dental pulp stem cells and periodontal ligament stem cells into neuron-like cells and their effects on focal cerebral ischemia显示文摘Recent studies have reported an in creasing in cidence of ischemic stroke,particularly in younger age groups.Dental pulp stem cells(DPSCs)and periodontal ligament stem cells(PDLSCs)are the most comm on stem cells acquired from the teeth of adults,even elderly people.However,there are no detailed reports on whether DPSCs or PDLSCs are suitable for the treatment of ischemic stroke.In this study,the in vitro differentiation of DPSCs and PDLSCs into neuron-like cells was evaluated.Then,we established a rat model of cerebral ischemia.DPSCs or PDLSCs were administered to animals,and the therapeutic effects of these two types of cells were investigated.The results showed that PDLSCs had a higher differentiation rate than DPSCs.Immunofluorescence studies showed that the expression of the neuronal differentiation markerThy-1 was higher in PDLSCs than in DPSCs,and other gene markers of neuronal differentiation showed corresponding trends,which were confirmed by western blot analysis.In this process,the Notch and Wnt signaling pathways were inhibited and activated,respectively.Fin ally,rats with transient occlusion of the right middle cerebral artery were used as a model to assess the therapeutic effect of PDLSCs and DPSCs on ischemia.The results showed that rats in the PDLSC-treated group emitted significantly greater red fluorescence signal than the DPSC-treated group.PDLSC transplantation promoted the recovery of neurological function more effectively than DPSC transplantation.Hence,PDLSCs represent an autogenous source of adult mesenchymal stem cells with desirable biological properties and may be an ideal candidate for clinical applications. | Tingting Wu Wanting Xu Hanlin Chen Shasha Li Rengang Dou Hongtao Shen Xue Liu Xiaoyu Liu Yongfeng Hong Jiacai He | 2020 | Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2020,52,9: | 2 |
| 7 | Molecular Mechanism of Induction on Apoptosis of Human Esophageal Cancer HCE-4 Cells by Active Components from Astragalus membranaceus显示文摘[Objectives] To investigate the pharmacologic effects of active components from A. membranaceus on human esophageal cancer HCE-4 cells and its apoptosis mechanism. [Methods] The viabilities of HCE-4 cells were measured by MTT assay. The induction of active components from A. membranaceus on apoptosis of HCE-4 cells was detected by Annexin V-FITC/PI double staining. The apoptotic-related protein expression levels were determined by Western blotting. [Results] Formononetin and astragaloside IV suppressed the proliferation of HCE-4 cells in a dose-dependent manner. The Annexin V-FITC/PI double staining results showed that formononetin and astragaloside IV could induce HCE-4 cells apoptosis in a time-dependent manner. The Western blotting results showed that formononetin and astragaloside IV could significantly down-regulate p-AKT,pro-caspase-3,and increase cle-caspase-3 protein expression in HCE-4 cells. | 9 | Effects of dietary vitamin K_(3) levels on growth,coagulation,calcium content,and antioxidant capacity in largemouth bass,Micropterus salmoides显示文摘An 8-week feeding trial investigated the optimum dietary vitamin K3 requirements of largemouth bass.A total of 600 healthy fish(12.96±0.07 g)were fed diets containing varying levels of vitamin K3 at 0.78(K0),5.80(K5),10.82(K10),15.84(K15),and 20.85(K20)mg/kg with four replicates per level.Results showed that dietary vitamin K3 enhanced growth,with weight gain rate and specific growth rate in K15 trials significantly higher than K0 trials(P<0.05).No significant difference was observed in the content of crude protein,crude lipid,moisture,ash,and phosphorus in muscle tissue(P>0.05).However,the supplementation of vitamin K3 significantly contributed to calcium accumulation in muscle tissues and vertebrae(P<0.05)and increased red blood cell counts(P<0.05).The blood coagulation time decreased significantly with increasing dietary vitamin K3 from 0.78 to 10.82 mg/kg(P<0.05)before stabilizing(P>0.05).The antioxidant capacity was improved with the addition of vitamin K3,which was inconsistent with the changes in malondialdehyde and MK-4(a form of menaquinone)within liver and serum,suggesting that the toxicity of excessive artificial vitamin K3 may account for this difference.Using regression analysis,the appropriate dietary vitamin K3 levels within a largemouth bass diet was determined to be in the range of 9.93-15.22 mg/kg,which will provide a reference for the preparation of vitamin premix and artificial diet for largemouth bass. | Xiang Wei Ying Hang Xiang Li Xueming Hua Xiangming Cong Wanting Yi Xu Guo | 2023 | Aquaculture and Fisheries2023,8,2: | 1 |

| 12 | Identification of two glycerophosphodiester phosphodiesterase genes in maize leaf phosphorus remobilization显示文摘Phosphate deficiency is one of the leading causes of crop productivity loss.Phospholipid degradation liberates phosphate to cope with phosphate deficiency.Glycerophosphodiester phosphodiesterases(GPX-PDEs)hydrolyse the intermediate products of phospholipid catabolism glycerophosphodiesters into glycerol-3-phosphate,a precursor of phosphate.However,the function of GPX-PDEs in phosphate remobilization in maize remains unclear.In the present study,we characterized two phosphate deficiency-inducible GPX-PDE genes,ZmGPX-PDE1 and ZmGPX-PDE5,in maize leaves.ZmGPX-PDE1 and ZmGPX-PDE5 were transcriptionally regulated by ZmPHR1,a well-described phosphate starvation-responsive transcription factor of the MYB family.Complementation of the yeast GPX-PDE mutant gde1Δindicated that ZmGPX-PDE1 and ZmGPX-PDE5 functioned as GPX-PDEs,suggesting their roles in phosphate recycling from glycerophosphodiesters.In vitro enzyme assays showed that ZmGPX-PDE1 and ZmGPX-PDE5 catalysed glycerophosphodiester degradation with different substrate preferences for glycerophosphoinositol and glycerophosphocholine,respectively.ZmGPX-PDE1 was upregulated during leaf senescence,and more remarkably,loss of ZmGPXPDE1 inmaize compromised the remobilization of phosphorus fromsenescing leaves to young leaves,resulting in a stay-green phenotype under phosphate starvation.These results suggest that ZmGPX-PDE1 catalyses the degradation of glycerophosphodiesters in maize,promoting phosphate recycling from senescing leaves to new leaves.This mechanism is crucial for improving phosphorus utilization efficiency in crops. | Jingxin Wang Wenbo Pan Alexiy Nikiforov William King Wanting Hong Weiwei Li Yang Han Jana Patton-Vogt Jianbo Shen Lingyun Cheng | 2021 | The Crop Journal2021,9,1: | 1 |
