6DRAMATIC ELEMENTS IN POLYBIUS' GENERAL HISTORY: AN ANALYSIS BASED ON THE MODEL OF THE CONNECTIVITY OF THE ANCIENT MEDITERRANEAN WORLD显示文摘The Histories composed by Polybius is the only extant historical work from the ancient world which directly criticizes the historical tradition 'tragic history.' Modern researchers generally agree that the reflections and criticism of Polybius on tragic history is one predominant feature of his 'objective history.' Nevertheless, in the structure of general history in The Histories, Polybius himself also uses certain dramatic elements, such as stage props, selection of historical materials, fictional asides and the tragic theme of tyche, to rationalize Romans' dramatic conquest of the whole Mediterranean within fifty-three years. Polybius' failure to exclude dramatic elements from The Histories reflects the limitation of the historiographic thoughts of Greek historians as well as the complex relationship between literature and history in the Hellenistic cultural context.At present, Global, Entangled and Transcultural History are commonly used key words in modern history, and also ancient history has partly taken over their ideas and concepts. 11Teaching and Learning Chinese through Immersion:A Case Study from the North American Context显示文摘With the promise of achieving bilingualism,biliteracy,and cultural pluralism,Chinese immersion programs for students from kindergarten to 12th grade(K-12)in North America,especially the US,have been proliferating in the past two decades.Research on this rapidly growing population of non-native Chinese learners is also growing.This research synthesis focuses on 35 selected studies published in recent years on Chinese immersion in both Chinese and English language journals and books.The review found that researchers are exploring a wide range of issues with respect to language and literacy development in Chinese immersion programs,including academic achievement in English,language and literacy acquisition in Chinese,instructional strategies and classroom interaction,as well as learners’language use and its sociolinguistic variations.These studies reflect a growing interest in and demand for learning more about the lesser-researched Chinese foreign language(CFL)learner population,and this review concludes with suggestions for future research on Chinese immersion based on its curricular features as well as specific considerations for conducting research with young,emergent bilingual and biliterate learners.Chan LÜ 2020Frontiers of Education in China2020,15,1:0

15Progress in the study of tectophysicochemistry显示文摘Tectophysicochemistry is a research area that deals with the interrelations between physical and chemical changes of crustal materials caused by tectonism. A given tectonic force may be resolved into two parts: homogeneous stress and differential stress. Homogeneous stress refers to isotopic pressure, which is superimposed on the original pressure and affects the equilibrium of various chemical reactions. It is also a factor that influences petrogenesis, metallogenesis and metamorphism. Differential stress is commonly produced when external forces act on a given solid body. It may cause deformation of crustal materials and generate various kinds of structural features. 20Ab Initio Investigation of Methanthiol and Dimethyl Sulfide Adsorption on Zeolite显示文摘The Hartree-Fock and cluster model methods have been employed to investigate interactions of methanthiol or dimethyl sulfide on zeolites. Molecular complexes formed by adsorption of methanthiol on silanol H3SiOSi(OH)2OSiH3 with five coordination forms and dimethyl sulfide on silanol H3SiOSi(OH)2OSiH3 with four coordination forms, and Br?nsted acid sites of bridging hydroxyl H3Si(OH)Al(OH)2OSiH3 entering into interactions with methanthiol or dimethyl sulfide have been investigated. Full optimization and fre- quency analysis of all cluster models have been carried out using the Hartree-Fock method at 6-31+G** basis set level for hydrogen, silicon, aluminum, oxygen, carbon, and sulfur atoms. The structures and energy changes of different coordination forms derived from methanthiol and H3Si(OH)Al(OH)2OSiH3, dimethyl sulfide and H3Si(OH)Al(OH)2OSiH3, methanthiol and H3SiOSi(OH)2OSiH3, dimethyl sulfide and H3SiOSi(OH)2OSiH3 complexes have been comparatively studied. The calculated results showed that the nature of interactions leading to the formation of the bridging hydroxyl-methanthiol, silanol-methanthiol, bridging hydroxyl-dimethyl sulfide, silanol-dimethyl sulfide complexes was governed by the Van der Waals force as confirmed by a small change in geometric structures and properties. Methanthiol and dimethyl sulfide molecules were adsorbed on bridging hydroxyl group prior to silanol group as evidenced by the heat of adsorption, and the protonization of methanthiol adsorption on bridging hydroxyl model, which was supposed in the literature, was not found.Lü Renqing 2006China Petroleum Processing & Petrochemical Technology2006,8,3:0
