2Failure mechanism and coupled static-dynamic loading theory in deep hard rock mining: A review显示文摘Rock failure phenomena,such as rockburst,slabbing(or spalling) and zonal disintegration,related to deep underground excavation of hard rocks are frequently reported and pose a great threat to deep mining.Currently,the explanation for these failure phenomena using existing dynamic or static rock mechanics theory is not straightforward.In this study,new theory and testing method for deep underground rock mass under coupled static-dynamic loading are introduced.Two types of coupled loading modes,i.e.'critical static stress + slight disturbance' and 'elastic static stress + impact disturbance',are proposed,and associated test devices are developed.Rockburst phenomena of hard rocks under coupled static-dynamic loading are successfully reproduced in the laboratory,and the rockburst mechanism and related criteria are demonstrated.The results of true triaxial unloading compression tests on granite and red sandstone indicate that the unloading can induce slabbing when the confining pressure exceeds a certain threshold,and the slabbing failure strength is lower than the shear failure strength according to the conventional Mohr-Column criterion.Numerical results indicate that the rock unloading failure response under different in situ stresses and unloading rates can be characterized by an equivalent strain energy density.In addition,we present a new microseismic source location method without premeasuring the sound wave velocity in rock mass,which can efficiently and accurately locate the rock failure in hard rock mines.Also,a new idea for deep hard rock mining using a non-explosive continuous mining method is briefly introduced.Xibing Li Fengqiang Gong Ming Tao Longjun Dong Kun Du Chunde Ma Zilong Zhou Tubing Yin 2017Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2017,9,4:68

4Treatment efficacy of radiof requency ablation of 338 patients with hepatic malignant tumor and the relevant complications显示文摘AIM: To investigate the treatment efficacy of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of hepatic malignant tumor and the relevant complications.METHODS: A total of 338 patients with 763 hepatic tumors underwent ultrasound-guided RFA (565 procedures).There were 204 cases of hepatic cellular carcinoma (HCC)with 430 tumors, the mean largest diameter was 4.0 cm.Of them, 48 patients (23.5%) were in stages Ⅰ-Ⅱ (UICC Systems) and 156 (76.5%) in stages Ⅲ-Ⅳ There were 134 cases of metastatic liver carcinoma (MLC), with 333metastases in the liver, the mean diameter was 4.1 cm,the liver metastases of 96 patients (71.6%) came from gastrointestinal tract. Ninety-three percent of the 338patients were treated using the relatively standard protocol. Crucial attention must be paid to monitor the abnormal changes in ultrasound images as well as the vital signs of the patients to find the possible hemorrhage and peripheral structures injury in time. The tumors were considered as ablated completely, if no viability was found on enhanced CT within 24 h or at 1 mo after RFA. These patients were followed up for 3-57 mo.RESULTS: The ablation success rate was 93.3% (401/430tumors) for HCC and was 96.7% (322/333 tumors) for MLC. The local recurrence rate for HCC and MLC was 7.9% (34/430 tumors) and 10.5% (35/333 tumors),respectively. A total of 137 patients (40.5%) underwent 2-11times of repeated ablations because of tumor recurrence or metastasis. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year survival rate was84.6%, 66.6%, and 63.1%, respectively;the survival rate from 48 patients of Ⅰ-Ⅱ stage HCC was 93.7%, 80.4%,and 80.4%, respectively. The major complication rate in this study was 2.5% (14 of 565 procedures), which consisted of 5 hemorrhages, 1 colon perforation, 5 injuries of adjacent structures, 2 bile leakages, and 1 skin burn.CONCLUSION: RFA, as a minimally invasive local treatment,has become an effective and relatively safe alternative for the patients of hepatic malignant tumor, even of advanced liver tumor, tumor recurrence, and liver metastases. 6Role of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography in percutaneous radiofrequency ablation of liver metastases and efficacy evaluation显示文摘Objective: To retrospectively investigate the role of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) in percutaneous radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in patients with liver metastases and evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of RFA assisted by CEUS. Methods: From May 2004 to September 2010, 136 patients with 219 liver metastatic lesions received CEUS examination 1 h before RFA (CEUS group), and other 126 patients with 216 lesions without CEUS examination in the earlier period were served as a historical control group. The mean tumor size was 3.2 cm and the mean tumor number was 1.6 in the CEUS group, while 3.4 cm and 1.7 in the control group, respectively (P>0.05). The clinical characteristics, recurrence results and survival outcomes were compared between two groups. Results: In the CEUS group, two isoechoic tumors were not demonstrated on unenhanced ultrasonography (US), and 63 (47%) of 134 tumors examined with CEUS were 0.3 cm larger than with unenhanced US. Furthermore, in 18.4% of 136 patients, additional 1-3 tumors were detected on CEUS. The CEUS group showed higher early tumor necrosis and lower intrahepatic recurrence than the control group. The 3-year overall survival (OS) rate and the 3-year local recurrence-free survival (LRFS) rate in the CEUS group were 50.1% and 38.3%, in contrast to 25.3% and 19.3% in the control group, respectively (P=0.002 and P<0.001). 8Evaluation of contrast-enhanced ultrasound for diagnosis of dysplastic nodules with a focus of hepatocellular carcinoma in liver cirrhosis patients显示文摘Objective: To compare the enhancement features of dysplastic nodules with a focus of hepatocellular carcinoma(DN-HCC) versus HCC and regenerative nodules(RN) in cirrhotic patients.Methods: One hundred and ninety-three cirrhotic patients were enrolled in this study; they had 215 focal liver lesions, 1.0-3.5 cm in size, which were examined using contrast-enhanced ultrasound(CEUS) with Sono Vue?and diagnosed as HCC, RN or DN-HCC by biopsy. Samples were obtained using 18-gauge needles in the different enhanced areas. The enhancement features of DN-HCC, HCC and RN were evaluated.Results: There were 86 HCC lesions, 102 RN lesions, and 27 DN-HCC lesions diagnosed by biopsy. Of 86 HCC lesions, 87.2%(75/86) showed complete enhancement during the arterial phase, and 12.8%(11/86) had inhomogeneous enhancement, with no enhancement in the central area during the arterial phase; 100%(86/86) exhibited washout during the late phase. Of 102 RN lesions, 95.1%(97/102) had delayed or simultaneous enhancement during the arterial phase, and 4.9%(5/102) displayed slight enhancement during the arterial phase; 26.5%(27/102) exhibited washout and 73.5%(75/102) exhibited no washout during the late phase. In 27 DN-HCC lesions, only part of the lesions enhanced during the arterial phase and washed out during the late phase; the other areas had delayed or simultaneous enhancement during the arterial phase, and 29.6%(8/27) exhibited slight washout in the late phase. In 86 HCCs, the pathological feature was HCC in the enhanced area of 75 lesions, hepatocellular fatty degeneration in the slightly enhanced area of 7 lesions, and hepatocellular necrosis in the unenhanced area and HCC in the enhanced area of 4 lesions. In 102 RNs, the pathological diagnosis was hepatocyte proliferation with or without fatty degeneration. In 27 DN-HCCs, the pathological feature was HCC in the enhanced area and hepatocyte regeneration in the unenhanced area.Conclusions: CEUS is useful for the diagnosis of focal liver lesions in cirrhotic patients. CEUS can help determine the progression from RN to DN-HCC to HCC by analyzing the hemodynamics. 9Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory Capacity of Ferulic Acid Released from Wheat Bran by Solid-state Fermentation of Aspergillus niger显示文摘Objective A strain of Aspergillus niger(A. niger), capable of releasing bound phenolic acids from wheat bran, was isolated. This strain was identified by gene sequence identification. The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory capacity of ferulic acid released from wheat bran by this A. niger strain(FA-WB) were evaluated. Methods Molecular identification techniques based on PCR analysis of specific genomic sequences were conducted; antioxidant ability was examined using oxygen radical absorbance capacity(ORAC), cellular antioxidant activity(CAA) assays, and erythrocyte hemolysis assays. RAW264.7 cells were used as a model to detect anti-inflammatory activity. Results The filamentous fungal isolate was identified to be A. niger. ORAC and CAA assay showed that FA-WB had better antioxidant activity than that of the ferulic acid standard. The erythrocyte hemolysis assay results suggested that FA-WB could attenuate AAPH-induced oxidative stress through inhibition of reactive oxy gen species(ROS) generation. FA-WB could significantly restore the AAPH-induced increase in intracellular antioxidant enzyme activities to normal levels as well as inhibit the intracellular malondialdehyde formation. TNF-?, IL-6, and NO levels indicated that FA-WB can inhibit the inflammation induced by lipopolysaccharide(LPS). 10Extracellular vesicles from human urine-derived stem cells prevent osteoporosis by transferring CTHRC1 and OPG显示文摘Osteoporosis is a debilitating bone disease affecting millions of people. Here, we used human urine-derived stem cells(USCs),which were noninvasively harvested from unlimited and easily available urine, as a 'factory' to obtain extracellular vesicles(USCEVs) and demonstrated that the systemic injection of USC-EVs effectively alleviates bone loss and maintains bone strength in osteoporotic mice by enhancing osteoblastic bone formation and suppressing osteoclastic bone resorption. More importantly, the anti-osteoporotic properties of USC-EVs are not notably disrupted by the age, gender, or health condition(with or without osteoporosis) of the USC donor. Mechanistic studies determined that collagen triple-helix repeat containing 1(CTHRC1) and osteoprotegerin(OPG) proteins are enriched in USC-EVs and required for USC-EV-induced pro-osteogenic and anti-osteoclastic effects. 11Effect of contrast-enhanced ultrasound on differential diagnosis of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma and arterial phase enhanced hepatic inflammatory lesions显示文摘Objective: To investigate differential diagnosis between intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(ICC) and arterial phase enhanced hepatic inflammatory lesions in patients without liver cirrhosis using contrast-enhanced ultrasound(CEUS).Methods: ICC and hepatic inflammatory lesions cases with CEUS and pathological diagnosis between Sep 2013 and Oct 2016 were investigated retrospectively. Imaging features of conventional ultrasound and CEUS were analyzed. The parameters of time intensity curve(TIC), including the arrival time, peak intensity(PI) in the lesions, the starting time for washout, and the intensity difference at 3 min(ΔI_3) after contrast agent infection between the lesion and the liver parenchyma, were compared between ICC and hepatic inflammatory lesions.Results: Twenty-five ICC and fifteen inflammatory patients were included in this study. Seventeen ICC(68.0%)and two inflammatory cases(13.3%) showed bile duct dilatation on conventional ultrasound. Using CEUS, three ICC cases(12.0%) were misdiagnosed as inflammatory lesions and three inflammatory lesions(20.0%) as ICC; two ICC(8.0%) and one inflammatory case(6.7%) could not be made definite diagnosis. Washout started at 34.5±3.5 s and 61.5±12.9 s for ICC and inflammatory lesions respectively(P<0.001). The intensity difference between lesion and liver parenchyma at 3 min after contrast agent injection was 10.8±3.1 dB in ICC and 4.2±2.3 dB in inflammatory group(P<0.001). 13Role of Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound in Radiofrequency Ablation of Metastatic Liver Carcinoma显示文摘Objective:To investigate the application of contrast enhanced ultrasound(CEUS) in planning and guiding for radiofrequency ablation(RFA) for metastatic liver carcinoma(MLC).Methods:One hundred and thirty-five patients with clinically and pathologically diagnosed MLC(from gastrointestinal tumors) were included in the present study,and 104 of them had received CEUS prior to RFA to assess the number,size,shape,infiltration,location and enhancing features of the lesions.Among the 104 patients,21(20.1%) were excluded from RFA treatment due to too many lesions or large infiltrative range based on CEUS.The remaining 83 patients with 147 lesions underwent RFA(group A).During the same period,other 31 patients with 102 lesions serving as control group were treated based on findings of conventional ultrasound without contrast(group B).The patients underwent follow-up enhanced CT at the 1st month,and then every 3-6 months after RFA.The tumor was considered as early necrosis if no contrast enhancement was detected in the treated area on the CT scan at the 1st month.Results:In group A,72 of 147 MLC lesions(48.9%) showed increased sizes on CEUS.Among them,48 lesions(66.6%) appeared enlarged in arterial phase,and 24(33.3%) showed enlarged hypoechoic area in parenchymal phase.CEUS showed total 61 additional lesions in 35 patients(42.1%)(ranged from 8 to 15 mm) compared with conventional ultrasound(US),and 42(68.8%) of them were visualized in parenchymal phase only.There were total 208 lesions in group A underwent RFA with CEUS planning,and the tumor necrosis rate was 94.2%(196/208).In this group,local recurrence was found in 16 lesions(7.7%) during 3-42 months' following up,and new metastases were seen in 30 cases(36.1%).For group B,the tumor necrosis rate was 86.3%(88/102),local recurrence in 17 lesions(16.7%),and new metastases in 13 cases(41.9%).Tumor early necrosis and recurrence rates were significantly different between the two groups(P=0.018,P=0.016,respectively).Conclusion: CEUS played an important role in RFA for liver metastases by candidate selecting and therapy planning, which helped to improve the outcome of the treatment.Jin-yu Wu Min-hua Chen Wei Yang Shu-zhi Lin Wei Wu Shan-shan Yin HuiZhang Kun Yan 2012Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2012,24,1:11

From the computational results at various non-dimensional distances between cylinder centers T/D and the Reynolds number Re, a total of nine kinds of wake patterns were observed: four steady wake patterns, including single bluff-body steady pattern, separated double-body steady pattern and transition steady pattern for sub-critical Reynolds numbers and biased steady pattern for super-critical Reynolds numbers, and five unsteady wake patterns, including single bluff-body periodic pattern, biased quasi-steady pattern, quasi-periodic (flip-flopping) pattern, in-phase-synchronized pattern and anti-phase-synchronized pattern. 17Hydrodynamics of a Newly China-Made Jiuling Bileaflet Heart Valve Prostheses显示文摘Jiuling bileaflet prosthetic heart valve is manufactured in compliance with the national standard of P.R.C. GB12279 90. This mechanical heart valve substitute is constructed entirely of solid low temperature pyrolytic carbon. There is no graphite substrate within the leaflets or orifice. This prosthesis presents with satisfactory histocompatibility and induces little hemocoagulation around it. Objective: This study aimed to assess the hydrodynamic function of the newly China made Jiuling bileaflet heart valve prostheses. Methods: Jiuling valve has been tested in a pulsatile flow simulator in the aortic position. The testing condition was set at the pulsatile frequency of 55, 75, and 100 beats/min and a constant cardiac output of 4 L/min. The mean pressure differences, leakage volumes and closing volumes across each valve, and the effective orifice areas have been analyzed. Results: The Jiuling heart valves prosthesis had the lowest pressure difference at any given tissue annulus diameter. The mean pressure difference of all the Jiuling valves decreases with increasing the tissue annulus diameter or pulse frequency, and is in the range of below 10 mmHg. CarboMedics (CarboMedics, Inc., Austin, Tex.) is similar to that of the 21 mm and 23 mm Jiuling heart valves at the given pulse rate under 4 L/min. C L tilting disc valve (Lanzhou CarboMedics Inc., China) is similar to that of the 23 mm Jiuling heart valve. The effective orifice area of the Jiuling mechanical valve increases with increasing the tissue annulus diameter or pulse frequency. CarboMedics and C L tilting disc valve is similar to that of the 21 mm and 23 mm Jiuling heart valves. The Closing volume of the Jiuling prosthetic cardiac valves increases with increasing the tissue annulus diameter, but decreases with increasing the pulse frequency, and is in the range of below 11% (normalized by stroke volume). CarboMedics is below 16.5% of stroke volume; and C L tilting disc valve is below 7.5%. The leakage volume of the Jiuling prosthetic cardiac valves increases with increasing the tissue annulus diameter, but decreases with increasing the pulse frequency, and are in the range of below 28.9% (normalized by stroke volume). The leakage volume of CarboMedics is higher than that of the same sized 25 mm Jiuling valve, and the C L tilting disc valve is also higher than that of Jiuling valve at 4 L/min. Conclusion: For a given tissue diameter, the Jiuling valve showed significantly better hemodynamic characteristics. The material used in the construction is biocompatible, durable, and thromboresistant. 20Advanced liquid crystal devices for augmented reality and virtual reality displays:principles and applications显示文摘Liquid crystal displays(LCDs)and photonic devices play a pivotal role to augmented reality(AR)and virtual reality(VR).The recently emerging high-dynamic-range(HDR)mini-LED backlit LCDs significantly boost the image quality and brightness and reduce the power consumption for VR displays.Such a light engine is particularly attractive for compensating the optical loss of pancake structure to achieve compact and lightweight VR headsets.On the other hand,high-resolution-density,and high-brightness liquid-crystal-on-siilicon(LCoS)is a promising image source for the see-through AR displays,especially under high ambient lighting conditions.Meanwhile,the high-speed LCoS spatial light modulators open a new door for holographic displays and focal surface displays.Finally,the ultrathin planar diffractive LC optical elements,such as geometric phase LC grating and lens,have found useful applications in AR and VR for enhancing resolution,widening fiield-of-view,suppressing chromatic aberrations,creating multiplanes to overcome the vergence-accommodation conflict,and dynamic pupil steering to achieve gaze-matched Maxwellian displays,just to name a few.The operation principles,potential applications,and future challenges of these advanced LC devices will be discussed.Kun Yin En-Lin Hsiang Junyu Zou Yannanqi Li Zhiyong Yang Qian Yang Po-Cheng Lai Chih-Lung Lin Shin-Tson Wu 2022Light(Science & Applications)2022,11,7:6
