| 4 | Microphysical Characteristics of Precipitation during Pre-monsoon,Monsoon, and Post-monsoon Periods over the South China Sea显示文摘Raindrop size distribution (RSD) characteristics over the South China Sea (SCS) are examined with onboard Parsivel disdrometer measurements collected during marine surveys from 2012 to 2016. The observed rainfall is divided into premonsoon, monsoon, and post-monsoon periods based on the different large-scale circumstances. In addition to disdrometer data, sounding observation, FY-2E satellite, SPRINTARS (Spectral Radiation-Transport Model for Aerosol Species), and NCEP reanalysis datasets are used to illustrate the dynamical and microphysical characteristics associated with the rainfall in different periods. Significant variations have been observed in respect of raindrops among the three periods. Intercomparison reveals that small drops (D < 1 mm) are prevalent during pre-monsoon precipitation, whereas medium drops (1?3 mm) are predominant in monsoon precipitation. Overall, the post-monsoon precipitation is characterized by the least concentration of raindrops among the three periods. But, several large raindrops could also occur due to severe convective precipitation events in this period. Classification of the precipitation into stratiform and convective regimes shows that the lg(Nw) value of convective rainfall is the largest (smallest) in the pre-monsoon (post-monsoon) period, whereas the Dm value is the smallest (largest) in the pre-monsoon (post-monsoon) period. An inversion relationship between the coefficient A and the exponential b of the Z?R relationships for precipitation during the three periods is found. Empirical relations between Dm and the radar reflectivity factors at Ku and Ka bands are also derived to improve the rainfall retrieval algorithms over the SCS. | 5 | Experimental and computational studies on flow behavior of gas-solid fluidized bed with disparately sized binary particles显示文摘This paper presents experimental and computational studies on the flow behavior of a gas-solid fluidized bed with disparately sized binary particle mixtures.The mixing/segregation behavior and segregation efficiency of the small and large particles are investigated experimentally.Particle composition and operating conditions that influence the fluidization behavior of mixing/segregation are examined.Based on the granular kinetics theory,a multi-fluid CFD model has been developed and verified against the experimental results.The simulation results are in reasonable agreement with experimental data.The results showed that the smaller particles are found near the bed surface while the larger particles tend to settle down to the bed bottom in turbulent fluidized bed.However,complete segregation of the binary particles does not occur in the gas velocity range of 0.695-0.904 m/s.Segregation efficiency increases with increasing gas velocity and mean residence time of the binary particles,but decreases with increasing the small particle concentration.The calculated results also show that the small particles move downward in the wall region and upward in the core.Due to the effect of large particles on the movement of small particles,the small particles present a more turbulent velocity profile in the dense phase than that in the dilute phase. | Jinsen Gao Jian Chang Chunxi Lu Chunming Xu | 2008 | Particuology2008,6,2: | 7 |
| 6 | Effect of wall boundary condition on CFD simulation of CFB risers显示文摘The effect of solid-phase wall boundary condition on the numerical simulation of gas-solid flow in CFB risers containing FCC particles was investigated using the two-fluid model incorporating the kinetic theory of granular flow.Both the Gidaspow drag model and the EMMS-based drag model were used.The Johnson and Jackson(1987) wall boundary condition was applied to describe the interaction between particles and wall.Based on the experimental system of Li and Kwauk(1994),parametric studies of specularity coefficient(φ=1.0,0.6,0.0005,0.00005,0) and particle-wall restitution coefficient(e_w=0.6,0.9,0.95,0.99,0.999) were performed to evaluate their effects on axial voidage profile,solids flux,meso-scale and heterogeneous structures.Simulation results showed that solid-phase wall boundary condition had little effect on axial voidage profile when the Gidaspow drag model was used.However,the specularity coefficient φ had a pronounced influence on flow behavior when the EMMS-based drag model was used,and a small specularity coefficient(φ=0.00005,0) could result in better agreement with experimental data.The particle-wall restitution coefficient e_w plays but a minor role in the holistic flow characteristics. | Xinyu Zhou Jinsen Gao Chunming Xu Xingying Lan | 2013 | Particuology2013,11,5: | 6 |

| 8 | Bioaugmentation of DDT-contaminated soil by dissemination of the catabolic plasmid pDOD显示文摘A plasmid transfer-mediated bioaugmentation method for the enhancement of dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane(DDT) degradation in soil was developed using the catabolic plasmid p DOD from Sphingobacterium sp. D-6. The p DOD plasmid could be transferred to soil bacteria, such as members of Cellulomonas, to form DDT degraders and thus accelerate DDT degradation. The transfer efficiency of p DOD was affected by the donor, temperature,moisture, and soil type. Approximately 50.7% of the DDT in the contaminated field was removed 210 days after the application of Escherichia coli TG I(p DOD-gfp). | 9 | Climatic Aftermath of the 1815 Tambora Eruption in China显示文摘The 1815 eruption of the Tambora volcano led to the 'Year without a Summer' and caused serious crop failure and famines in 1816 across Europe and North America. However, few reports are available on Tambora's influence in China despite the region's susceptibility to monsoonal volcanic perturbation. This study presents a systemic analysis of the climatic and related social responses to the Tambora perturbation in China, by using two independent lines of proxy records and projecting the responses on top of the impacts averaged over all tropical eruptions of the past millennium. Both the tree ring and Chinese documentary proxies show that Tambora induced a cold excursion, which caused severe frost damage, snow and ice accumulations that are uncommonly seen in southern China. Cold temperature tends to cause drought by suppressing evaporation and monsoonal circulation—a hydroclimate response that is evident in the tree-ring-based Monsoon Asia Drought Atlas but largely missing in a multiproxy precipitation reconstruction. Historical records of drought, flood, frost, and famine also show fairly mild responses outside southern China, which may be partially due to the insensitivity of documentary records to the Tambora-induced perturbation,or the cold background climate set up by the low solar insolation of the coincident Dalton Minimum and a preceding unknown eruption in 1809. The results presented here provide new insights into the spatial extent and characteristics of the Tambora perturbation, by providing a systematic evaluation of the climatic aftermath in China in parallel to that in Europe and North America. | 11 | Deployment of Sensors in WSN: An Efficient Approach Based on Dynamic Programming显示文摘Efficient sensor node deployment is extremely important in wireless sensor networks. It earns great practical meanings through using fewer sensor nodes as far as possible to satisfy different requirements such as the requirement on coverage and overcoming the potential sensor node failures and the adverse influence from the environment. We propose an efficient approach for the deployment of sensor nodes in wireless networks, termed as EDSNDA, which is excellent in taking both the requirements of sensor coverage and network connectivity into consideration when minimizing the number of necessary sensor nodes to the best of its ability. We proposed a new coverage model of sensor node. Based on the sensor coverage model, we establish four dynamic programming models in four different practical situations, respectively. The algorithms are then proposed which are used for solving the corresponding dynamic programming models. The validity of the method is justified by simulation studies in which the method is compared with the current representative methods. | 12 | Carbendazim induces a temporary change in soil bacterial community structure显示文摘The effect of carbendazim applications on the diversity and structure of a soil bacterial community was studied under field conditions using temperature gradient gel electrophoresis (TGGE) and partial sequence analysis of PCR-amplified 16S rRNA gene. After four successive introductions of carbendazim at a level of 0.94 kg active ingredient (a.i.)/ha, the genetic diversity (expressed as Shannon index, H ) decreased from 1.43 in the control to 1.29 in treated soil. This harmful effect seems to increase with the concentration of carbendazim. The value of H in the soil treated with carbendazim at 4.70 kg a.i./ha was reduced to 1.05 (P 0.05). The structure of soil bacterial community was also affected after four repeated applications of carbendazim at levels of 0.94, 1.88 and 4.70 kg a.i./ha, as seen in the relative intensities of the individual band. However, the bacterial community in carbendazim-treated soil recovered to that in the control 360 d after the first treatment. By the resulting mathematical modeling, computer simulations are made both for the original nonlinear and feedback linearized systems with incorporation of ordinary PID controllers to follow ideal vehicle dynamic responses.
