2Endurance exercise and gut microbiota:A review显示文摘Background: The physiological and biochemical demands of intense exercise elicit both muscle-based and systemic responses. The main adaptations to endurance exercise include the correction of electrolyte imbalance, a decrease in glycogen storage and the increase of oxidative stress, intestinal permeability, muscle damage, and systemic inflammatory response. Adaptations to exercise might be influenced by the gut microbiota, which plays an important role in the production, storage, and expenditure of energy obtained from the diet as well as in inflammation,redox reactions, and hydration status.Methods: A systematic and comprehensive search of electronic databases, including MEDLINE, Scopus, Clinical Trials.gov, Science Direct,Springer Link, and EMBASE was done. The search process was completed using the keywords: 'endurance', 'exercise', 'immune response','microbiota', 'nutrition', and 'probiotics'.Results: Reviewed literature supports the hypothesis that intestinal microbiota might be able to provide a measureable, effective marker of an athlete's immune function and that microbial composition analysis might also be sensitive enough to detect exercise-induced stress and metabolic disorders. The review also supports the hypothesis that modifying the microbiota through the use of probiotics could be an important therapeutic tool to improve athletes' overall general health, performance, and energy availability while controlling inflammation and redox levels.Conclusion: The present review provides a comprehensive overview of how gut microbiota may have a key role in controlling the oxidative stress and inflammatory responses as well as improving metabolism and energy expenditure during intense exercise.Núria Mach Dolors Fuster-Botella 2017Journal of Sport and Health Science2017,6,2:18
3Epidemiological Evolution of Lung Cancer in the South of Spain from 1990 to 2010显示文摘Background: Changes in lung cancer has been characterized by the increase of cases among women and the increase in adenocarcinomas among other histological subtypes.Methods: Descriptive analysis of cases diagnosed with lung cancer in Hospital Virgen de las Nieves(Spain) from 1990 to 2010,based on five variables(age, sex, smoking, histology and pathological anatomy). The study establishes associations between these variables and compares the results with the literature.Results: 2,026 patients were diagnosed with lung cancer in this period; 1,838 were males(90.7%) and 188 women(9.3%); 1,892 patients(93.4%) were smokers or ex-smokers and 134(6.6%) had never smoked; the most frequent non-small cell histology types were squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma and it was the most frequent neoplasia in women and were associated with a lower tobacco consumption.Conclusion: The large majority of lung cancer cases is associated with a history of smoking tobacco and there are histopathological differences according to gender and cumulative tobacco smoke load.Alberto Caballero Vázquez Ana Dolores Romero Ortiz Jose Manuel González de Vega San Román Raimundo García del Moral Bernardino Alcázar Navarrete 2018中国肺癌杂志2018,21,1:17

6Hepatitis B and inflammatory bowel disease: Role of antiviral prophylaxis显示文摘Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a very common infection worldwide. Its reactivation in patients receiving immunosuppression has been widely described as being associated with significant morbidity and mortality unless anti-viral prophylaxis is administered. Treatment in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients has changed in recent years and immunosuppression and biological therapies are now used more frequently than before. Although current studies have reported an incidence of hepatitis B in inflammatory bowel disease patients similar to that in the general population, associated liver damage remains an important concern in this setting. Liver dysfunction may manifest in several ways, from a subtle change in serum aminotransferase levels to fulminant liver failure and death. Patients undergoing double immunosuppression are at a higher risk, and reactivation usually occurs after more than one year of treatment. As preventive measures, all IBD patients should be screened for HBV markers at diagnosis and those who are positive for the hepatitis B surface antigen should receive antiviral prophylaxis before undergoing immunosuppression in order to avoid HBV reactivation. Tenofovir/entecavir are preferred to lamivudine as nucleos(t)ide analogues due to their better resistance profile. In patients with occult or resolved HBV, viral reactivation does not appear to be a relevant issue and regular DNA determination is recommended during immunosuppression therapy. Consensus guidelines on this topic have been published in recent years. 7Efficacy of neoadjuvant therapy and surgical rescue for locally advanced hepatoblastomas:10 year single-center experience and literature review显示文摘AIM:To report our experience with long-term outcomes after multimodal management therapy.METHODS:An observational retrospective study was performed containing seven patients with hepatoblastoma(Hbl)treated in our institution,a tertiary referral center,from 2003 to 2011.Demographic,preoperative,surgical,and outcome variables were collected.A survival analysis and a review of the current literature related to combination neoadjuvant chemotherapy and surgical resection on Hbl were performed.RESULTS:The median age at surgery was 14.4 mo,with a male to female ratio of 4:3.Pretext staging at diagnosis was as follows:stageⅠ,4 cases;stageⅡ,2 patients;and stageⅢ,1 case.Mean pretreatment tumor volume was 735 cm3.Five out of seven patients received neoadjuvant chemotherapy according to SIOPEL-3 or SIOPEL-6 protocols.Tumor volume and alphafetoprotein levels significantly dropped after neoadjuvant therapy.Surgical procedures performed included hemihepatectomies,segmentectomies and atypical resection.All patients received chemotherapy after surgery.Median postoperative hospital stay was 8 d.All patients were alive and disease-free after a median follow-up period of 23 mo.With regards to the literature review,seventeen articles were found that were related to our search.CONCLUSION:Our series shows how multimodal management of Hbl,exhaustive control and a meticulous surgical approach leads to almost 100%complete resection with optimal postoperative results.Dolores Ayllon Teran Oscar Gómez Beltran Rubén Ciria Bru Elena Mateos González María José Pea Rosa Antonio Luque Molina Pedro López Cillero Javier Briceo Delgado 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,29:12

10Contribution of the ear and the flag leaf to grainfilling in durum wheat inferred from the carbon isotope signature: Genotypic and growing conditions effects显示文摘The ear, together with the flag leaf, is believed to play a major role as a source of assimilates during grain filling in C3cereals. However, the intrusive nature of most of the available methodologies prevents reaching conclusive results in this regard. This study compares the carbon isotope composition(d13C) in its natural abundance in the water‐soluble fractions of the flag leaf blade and the ear with the d13C of mature kernels to assess the relative contribution of both organs to grain filling in durum wheat(Triticum turgidum L. var.durum). The relative contribution of the ear was higher in landraces compared to modern cultivars, as well as in response to nitrogen fertilization and water stress. Such genotypic and environmentally driven differences were associated with changes in harvest index(HI), with the relative contribution of the ear being negatively associated with HI. In the case of the genotypic differences, the lower relative contribution of the ear in modern cultivars compared with landraces is probably associated with the appearance in the former of a certain amount of source limitation driven by a higher HI. 11Wheat ear carbon assimilation and nitrogen remobilization contribute significantly to grain yield显示文摘The role of wheat ears as a source of nitrogen(N)and carbon(C) in the grain filling process has barely been studied. To resolve this question, five wheat genotypes were labeled with15N-enriched nutrient solution. N remobilization and absorption were estimated via the nitrogen isotope composition of total organic matter and Rubisco. Gas exchange analyses showed that ear photosynthesis contributed substantially to grain filling in spite of the great loss of C due to respiration. Of the total kernel N, 64.7% was derived from the N acquired between sowing and anthesis, while the remaining35.3% was derived from the N acquired between anthesis and maturity. In addition, 1.87 times more N was remobilized to the developing kernel from the ear than from the flag leaf. The higher yielding genotypes showed an increased N remobilization to the kernel compared to the lower yielding genotypes. Inaddition, the higher yielding genotypes remobilized more N from the ears to the kernel than the lower yielding genotypes,while the lower yielding genotypes remobilized more N from the flag leaf to the kernel. 13Recurrent anal fistulae:Limited surgery supported by stem cells显示文摘AIM:To study the results of stem-cell therapy under a Compassionate-use Program for patients with recurrent anal fistulae.METHODS:Under controlled circumstances,and approved by European and Spanish laws,a Compassionate-use Program allows the use of stem-cell therapy for patients with very complex anal fistulae.Candidates had previously undergone multiple surgical interventions that had failed to resolve the fistulae,and presented symptomatic recurrence.The intervention consisted of limited surgery(with closure of the internal opening),followed by local implant of stem cells in the fistula-tract wall.Autologous expanded adipose-derived stem cells were the main cell type selected for implant.The first evaluation was performed on the 8th postoperative week;outcome was classified as response or partial response.Evaluation one year after the intervention confirmed if complete healing of the fistula was achieved.RESULTS:Ten patients(8 male)with highly recurrent and complex fistulae were treated(mean age:49years,range:28-76 years).Seven cases were nonCrohn’s fistulae,and three were Crohn’s-associated fistulae.Previous surgical attempts ranged from 3to 12.Two patients presented with preoperative incontinence(Wexner scores of 12 and 13 points).After the intervention,six patients showed clinical response on the 8th postoperative week,with a complete cessation of suppuration from the fistula.Three patients presented a partial response,with an evident decrease in suppuration.A year later,six patients(60%)remained healed,with complete reepithelization of the external opening.Postoperative Wexner Scores were 0 in six cases.The two patients with previous incontinence improved their scores from12 to 8 points and from 13 to 5 points.No adverse reactions or complications related to stem-cell therapy were reported during the study period.CONCLUSION:Stem cells are safe and useful for treating anal fistulae.Healing can be achieved in severe cases,sparing fecal incontinence risk,and improving previous scoring.Damian Garcia-Olmo Hector Guadalajara Ines Rubio-Perez Maria Dolores Herreros Paloma de-la-Quintana Mariano Garcia-Arranz 2015World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,11:7
14Conventional digital cameras as a tool for assessing leaf area index and biomass for cereal breeding显示文摘Affordable and easy-to-use methods for assessing biomass and leaf area index(LAI) would be of interest in most breeding programs. Here, we describe the evaluation of a protocol for photographic sampling and image analysis aimed at providing low-labor yet robust indicators of biomass and LAI. In this trial, two genotypes of triticale, two of bread wheat, and four of tritordeum were studied. At six dates during the growing cycle, biomass and LAI were measured destructively, and digital photography was taken on the same dates. Several vegetation indices were calculated from each image. The results showed that repeatable and consistent values of the indices were obtained in consecutive photographic samplings on the same plots. The photographic indices were highly correlated with the destructive measurements, though the magnitude of the correlation was lower after anthesis. This work shows that photographic assess-ment of biomass and LAI can be fast, affordable, have good repeatability, and can be used under bright and overcast skies. A practical vegetation index derived from pictures is the fraction of green pixels over the total pixels of the image, and as it shows good correlations with all biomass variables, is the most robust to lighting conditions and has easy interpretation.Jaume Casadesús Dolors Villegas 2014Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2014,56,1:7

16Physiological traits contributed to the recent increase in yield potential of winter wheat from Henan Province, China显示文摘This experiment aims to test the traits responsible for the increase in yield potential of winter wheat released in Henan Province, China. Seven established cultivars released in the last 20 years and three advanced lines were assayed. The results showed that grain yield was positively correlated with harvest index(HI), kernel number per square meter, and aboveground biomass. In addition, the HI and aboveground biomass showed an increasing trend with the year of release.Therefore, we can conclude that bread wheat breeding advances during recent decades in Henan Province, China,have been achieved through an increase in HI, kernel number per square meter, and aboveground biomass. A higher d13C seems also to be involved in these advances, which suggests a progressive improvement in constitutive water use efficiency not associated with a trend towards lower stomatal conductance in the most recent genotypes. However, genetic advance Researchdoes not appear related to changes in photosynthesis rates on area basis when measured in the flag leaf or the spike,but only to a higher, whole‐spike photosynthesis. 17Regulatory T cells in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases treated with adacolumn granulocytapheresis显示文摘AIM: To investigate if the clinical efficacy of granulocytes and monocytes by adsorption (GMA) is associated with an increased frequency of peripheral regulatory T cells (Tregs), as these cells have proven to be successful in suppressing inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in animal models. METHODS: We report four cases of corticosteroid- dependent ulcerative colitis (UC) and two Crohn’s disease (CD) cases with severe cutaneous lesions who received GMA therapy. The frequency of CD4+ CD25high (Tregs) in peripheral blood was analyzed by flow cytometry and the expression of FoxP3 and TGF beta in purified CD4+ T cells was determined by real time PCR prior to and one month after the last apheresis session, and at the time of endoscopic and clinical assessing. RESULTS: Increased expression of Fox P3 mRNA was found in all five patients who responded to cytapheresis with remission of clinical symptoms, mucosal inflammation and cutaneous lesions, and an increased frequency of circulating Tregs was found in four patients. These changes were not observed in the patient with UC who did no respond to GMA. Variations in TGF-β (mRNA) did not parallel that of FoxP3 mRNA. CONCLUSION: The clinical efficacy of GMA on IBD and related extra intestinal manifestations was associated with an expansion of circulating CD4+ CD25+ Tregs and higher expression of FoxP3 in CD4+ T cells. 18Further the liquid biopsy:Gathering pieces of the puzzle of genometastasis theory显示文摘Metastasis is the major cause of mortality in cancer disease and still constitutes one of the most controversial mechanism,not yet fully understood.What is almost beyond doubt is that circulatory system is crucial for cancer propagation.Regarding this system,much attention has been recently paid to liquid biopsy.This technique is aimed to detect circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and circulating nucleic acids so it can be used as a tool for diagnostic,prognostic and follow-up of patients.Whereas CTCs tend to be scarce in serum and plasma from cancer patient,abundant circulating nucleic acids can be detected in the same location.This fact,together with the genetic origin of cancer,stands out the relevance of circulating nucleic acids and shed light into the role of nucleic acids as drivers of metastasis,a recently discovered phenomenon called Genometastasis.This innovative theory supports the transfer of oncogenes from cancer cells to normal and susceptible cells located in distant target organs through circulatory system.What is more,many biological processes haven been described to deliver and secrete circulating nucleic acids into the circulation which can allow such horizontal transfer of oncogenes.In this review,we focus not only on these mechanisms but also we demonstrate its putative role in cancer propagation and give insights about possible therapeutic strategies based on this theory.Our objective is to demonstrate how findings about cell-to-cell communications and previous results can agree with this unprecedented theory.Ana García-Casas Dolores C García-Olmo Damián García-Olmo 2017World Journal of Clinical Oncology2017,8,5:5

20In drug-induced, immune-mediated hepatitis, interleukin-33 reduces hepatitis and improves survival independently and as a consequence of FoxP3+ T-cell activity显示文摘Immune-mediated,drug-induced hepatitis is a rare complication of halogenated volatile anesthetic administration.IL-4-regulated Th2-polarized reactions initiate this type and other types of hepatitis,while the mechanisms that regulate the severity remain elusive.IL-33 is an innate,IL-4-inducing,Th2-polarizing cytokine that has been detected in patients with liver failure and has been associated with upregulated ST2+Foxp3+CD4+CD25+T cells;however,roles for IL-33 in drug-induced hepatitis are unclear.We investigated IL-33 in an anesthetic,immune-mediated hepatitis modeled in BALB/c,IL-33−/−and ST2−/−mice,as well as in patients with anesthetic hepatitis.The hepatic IL-33 and ST2 levels were elevated in BALB/c mice(p<0.05)with hepatitis,and anti-IL-33 diminished hepatitis(p<0.05)without reducing IL-33 levels.The complete absence of IL-33 reduced IL-10(p<0.05)and ST2+Foxp3+CD4+CD25+T cells(p<0.05),as well as reduced the overall survival(p<0.05),suggesting suppressive roles for IL-33 in anesthetic,immune-mediated hepatitis.All of the mice demonstrated similar levels of CD4+T-cell proliferation following direct Tcell receptor stimulation,but we detected splenic IL-33 and ST2-negative Foxp3+CD4+CD25+T cells in ST2−/−mice that developed less hepatitis than BALB/c mice(p<0.05),suggesting that ST2-negative Foxp3+CD4+CD25+T cells reduced hepatitis.In patients,serum IL-33 and IPEX levels were correlated in controls(r2=0.5,p<0.05),similar to the levels in mice,but not in anesthetic hepatitis patients(r2=0.01),who had elevated IL-33(p<0.001)and decreased IPEX(p<0.01).Our results suggest that,in anesthetic,immune-mediated hepatitis,IL-33 does not regulate the CD4+T-cell proliferation that initiates hepatitis,but IL-33,likely independent of ST2,reduces hepatitis via upregulation of Foxp3+CD4+CD25+T cells.Further studies are needed to translate the role of IL-33 to human liver disease.Merylin Cottagiri Maeva Nyandjo Matthew Stephens Joel J.Mantilla Hirohisa Saito Ian R.Mackay Noel R.Rose Dolores B.Njoku 2019Cellular & Molecular Immunology2019,16,8:4
